logo Update: Chaplain suspended for sharing the Gospel. Shameful. Telling someone that without Christ they are damned, as the Bible teaches, is called “hatred.” Suppose you’re an atheist who doesn’t believe in hell. Why would you be offended because someone said that’s where you were going? So if someone asks me a question about my beliefs, telling them what I believe means I’m “hateful?” A Christian chaplain was suspended because he answered a question about the Bible. That’s his job! Freedom of religion, my eye. Freedom from Christianity is more like it. (Hat tip: Renee)

Michael King is leaving the blogosphere. He’s found a day job, and he can’t rant and rave online anymore. :(

— If you’re in town, join us at the Baltimore-DC-Northern Virginia bloggers meet-up on September 30, 2005, at 6:30 p.m. We’ll meet at Buca Di Beppo’s in Gaithersburg, MD. See David Wayne for details.

— The New York Times and some other liberal paper are laying off staff because they can’t pay them because regular people (not liberals) don’t want to read anti-American garbage. We’re just funny that way. More from Mark in Mexico.

BelieverThinker has a few words for the Washington Post.

— Speaking of leftists, we know that most major newspapers are written by liberals, so I try not to transfer my disgust for reporters onto people they’re writing about in the story. Remember the Hmong murder case? Well the murderer was found guilty, and the reporter writes, “Minorities question how a white jury could know how a Hmong hunter must have felt that day.” If that isn’t the stupidest sentence I’ve ever read.

So-called minorities should be insulted, in my opinion, for being set apart based on their skin color, as though they’re a subhuman species incapable of meeting the same standards as everyone else. But so many accept it like pabulum. If the word “whites” had been used in place of “minorities,” we’d never hear the end of it. Years from know people would still be ranting about it. David Downing has more.

The debate, organized by the Beverly LaHaye Institute, will take place this morning at 10:00 a.m. at the Wesley Theological Seminary.

Duncan at The Blog Herald has this to say about a new book on blogging:

Its (sic) a view of the world that always looks at top down instead of button up. Sure, there’s some good people on this list who probably contributed to a sound book (when Calacanis speaks for example it’s nearly always interesting) but where’s the diversity of people that make the blogosphere the wonderful place it is?

I agree.

Plain silly. Even sillier: blacks are complaining because Red Cross volunteers are white! What a gaggle of numbskulls.

  2. Hey, I found your blog through Chris Meece’s blog and wanted to say hi. I’ve started a Salt & Light group at my church, sort of a political awareness group, and I love to find informative sites that lead me to good information. I also have a Christian blog and I have linked to it if you want to see it and possibly link to it.

  5. I am still drop jawed at the fact that Blacks are complaining about white red cross volunteers…hmmm..is it because not as many blacks have volunteered or are trained to assist yet? What a concept … Stupidity at its finest to even care about the color of skin of the person HELPING you.

Stupidity is alive and well in America!!

Thanks for the other great links La Shawn

  7. Renee:

As a “Rich White Male” Anesthesiologist, caring for mostly Black patients in Shreveport, LA, I have never even heard of a Black patient asking for a Black doctor.

Why would it be any different for a Red Cross volunteer?

I don’t believe “real Black people” are this way.
This idiot was likely working for some grievance group, like the NAACP or the Nation of Islam.

  8. “Blacks are complaining about white red cross volunteers”

All right I will say it. Mostly whites volunteer to help in the Red Cross. Now that it is mostly Blacks who they are helping some Black are complaining that they aren’t being allowed to help. These Blacks don’t want to help victims. They just want to help BLACK victims. There is only one thing to call people like that but nobody will.

They should be ashamed of themselves.

  10. Did you hear about the black columnist in Austin, Texas complaining that all the items that people are giving are “too white”? There’s been tons of help given (mostly by churches) and all she can do is whine about what types of products there are. I hope she gets stranded somewhere.

  14. You know, just because you’re Christian doesn’t mean you have to correct everybody all the time. Jesus could be forceful at times (telling the Pharisees, “You are from your father the Devil,” for instance), but on other occasions he recognized the value of keeping his mouth shut (as when he was before Pontias Pilate when asked, “Are you a king?” and he replied, “You yourself are saying that I am”).

I would no more have said such a thing in a public locker room (if I’m understanding the context of the statement) than I would fly. Yes, I do believe the Bible teaches there is only one true religion, one “narrow path.” But you don’t have to correct all wrong ideas and misconceptions with such a cruel, tactless lump of information.

  16. I was a Volunteer Fireman, and a paid Emergency Medical Technician, and no one we were helping cared about the color of our skins, and we didn’t care about the color of theirs. I guess racism is something some people think about when they have nothing better to do.

  17. I was just talking about ‘race’ and racism with someone last night who may be defined…think about that word…as indian, native American, and I asked him how he wants to be defined. He said, “American.”
And I said, “Me, too.” We were talking about the native Hawaiian movement, where some few Hawaiians want to be defined as a ‘tribe’ with their own tribal government. Do all bad insane ideas start with a few disgruntled individuals? My friend and I agreed that the “tribal” native Hawaiians were racist and absolutely wrong.

  18. Doug, I think bad insane ideas start with a few disgruntled individuals. No one can determine the quality of anyone’s character by looking at them, and it is the in-action of people of good will that allows the racists to flourish. The Good always outnumber the Bad, contrary to the latest headline!
