in Bloggers

pjThe cat’s out of the bag, so I can blog about it. I recently joined Pajamas Media, founded by Roger Simon and Charles Johnson. I’ll be a senior contributor for the new venture, and I’m excited about the possibilities. PM aspires to be a competitive newswire service run by bloggers. Contributors will write original news stories, editorials, blog posts — whatever needs to be written and disseminated.

Traditional media are here to stay, but PM will be an alternative. The company’s name, a reference to the rantings of a disgruntled journalist who was a little ticked off that bloggers had jumped all over his friend Dan Rather, will soon change.

Read more about pajamas.

You’ll find out a little more about me on the profiles page, things I didn’t reveal in my bio. I asked the editor to make two corrections. When I first arrived here back in 1998 with no connections (except one friend, whose couch I slept on) and everything I owned packed in my car, I was employed and living in my own place by the end of the first week, not a few weeks. Another is the Jesus was a liberal controversy. While responding to one of Jesse Jackson’s columns, I tried to de-emphasize political labels; I wasn’t taking the opposite approach and claiming Jesus was a political conservative. I don’t think that’s clear the way the profile is written. The whole discussion is moot anyway, isn’t it?

I welcome all new visitors to my blog. Take a moment to look around, read a few posts, leave a comment or two…and visit my business blog, The Language Artist.

I don’t often agree with you, but I respect your opinions. Just read your piece on Jesse Jackson’s “Jesus was a liberal” statement and I must say that it was a tremendous article! You’re a really good writer and I know that you’ll do well in your new position. Congrats!

Congratulations on joining Pajamas Media! It’s good to see others of faith speak their minds on important matters. Besides, now you’re a lizardoid!

Is that what they call LGF’s associates? – :) – Admin

Congratulations LaShawn.

I see I need to work on my PR….I’m still a bench player.

La Shawn:

The impact of “Bloggers in Pajamas” on Dan Rather’s career was unequaled, and made these bloggers (including you) immortal.

Unfortunately, Dan Rather and Marvin Kalb have forgotten that bloggers discovered the truth.

This is fantastic La Shawn. Congratulations and thanks for letting us know.

(Site is officially bookmarked under my news links :-) )

Bloggers haven’t organized themselves systematically to compete in newsgathering, and that is a necessary next step. The blogosphere has provided necessary criticism (and plenty of freelance newsgathering – some of the best gathered). Time now to compete toe to toe.

La Shawn,

The more I learn about you, the more there is to like… Thanks for the good news about your partnership with Pajamas Media, the profile corrections, and the link to the profile page… Keep the faith.

Cheers,

Onward and upward.

Congratulations, La Shawn! And remember, if you step on any toes, maybe those folks shouldn’t have had their toes sticking out there where you could get at them!

I heard Al Gore make an idiotic statement this day (which is redundant, sorry). Fmr. Senator Gore was bewailing the demise of the “fairness doctrine” and suchlike strictures on broadcasting as being responsible for the decline of the media, opening the door for hatemongers (meaning conservatives).

With enterprising and industrious internet ladies like La Shawn Barber leading the way, Algore now no doubt has another burr in his saddle!

Ron Stephens 10.07.05 at 11:55 am

Good for you La Shawn! I want to be just like you when I grow up!

Don Singleton 10.07.05 at 12:09 pm

You are the top one on the list now, but you may want to change the URL to http://pajamasmedia.com/pj-profiles.php?p=2005/10/la_shawn_barber_la_shawn_barbe.php which will show your profile any time. I have mine shown in my sidebar as http://www.pajamasmedia.com/index.php?p=2005/09/don_singleton_1.php

You! go!! Girl!!!

Actually you’ve been going non-stop with no end in sight. Although, I’m still waiting for your own TV talk show, where even Tavis will have to sit up and take notice! :D

Ciao

Already famous and beautiful, now you get rich!

I happened to be awake that night following the blogging. Is anyone putting together a cataloging of the relevant blogs as it unfolded? It was the coming of age of the blogsphere and the beginning of the end of MSM.

LaShawn:

Congratulations on your position with PJ Media. Here is something worth writing about –

The ultimate reason that Bush should nominate a known conservative for SCOTUS is that conservatives win battles over conservative nominees, even when we lose. Even though we lost the Bork battle, Bork and conservatism emerged as the winner over the next two decades. If Bush were to nominate Janice Rogers Brown now, she would emerge either as a martyr or a Supreme Court Justice. There is no downside for us.

La Shawn:

Jessie was wrong abt Jesus’s affiliations. Jesus was a member of the Theocratic Party, as am I.

I saw your appearance with the group on Heritage Foundation, and enjoyed the program very much.

Very good work. Jim
