in War - Islamofascism

subI can hear the disorganized and discombobulated feds now:

“We’ve just learned from credible source of a plot involving 19 people to blow up the New York City subway system! High alert, high alert! Red alert, red alert! (in homage to us Star Trek fans) Women and children first!”

“No, no, no. That information cannot be ascertained, according to our source’s source’s source. We have no plans to raise the threat level until the actual moment of explosion. Then we’ll know for sure.”

Will Islamofascists bomb the NYC subway? Is it all just a rumor? Your guess is as good as the government’s. Flip a coin. Draw a straw. Throw it against a wall and see if it sticks.

Are they still searching little old ladies and skipping young men of Middle Eastern descent because it would be racist to search them? Probably.

Tsk tsk, La Shawn. Surely you’re not suggesting that the officials look at the most likely suspects first, are you? Shame, shame. Profiling is just ever so wrong.

If a fat white guy robbed a bank, the cops should, of course, stop and question all thin elderly black women. This is only fair and just.

Renee 10.07.05 at 9:54 am

Redbeard you are funny :-)

Here’s a plan: if you must ride the subway and you are greatly concerned, you should ride on the train a politician is “photo-opting” on. That is going to be one secure train and the guards will probably even check out SMMWB. (Suspicious Mideastern Men With Backpacks.)

Dan Hamilton 10.07.05 at 10:44 am

Why should the terrorists bother to bomb the subways when just the threat causes so many problems.

I hate to say it but we should IGNORE the terrorist’s threats. Just Ignore them. Otherwise we give them what they want. I realize that people will die if the threat is real but does ANYONE really believe that what is going on is helping to save people or make them safer.

Terrorists threats should be treated like the weather. It’s there, you can’t do much about it, you can’t let it take over your life. Sometime a Katrina happens, you deal with it. At least with terrorists the government can sometimes stop them.

But what could have possibly have been done to stop the OK student from blowing himself and others up. We got lucky.

Ignore the threats, go about your business, look them straight in the eye and spit in their faces. They are not worth it. Letting them win even a little isn’t worth the lives saved even if there was any proof that lives would be saved.

The only good terrorist is a DEAD terrorist! I don’t care what side they are on or what they support. Kill them ALL let the Devil sort them out.

Hi La Shawn. My sister works in New York City as a waitress. I just posted a story on my blog about what happened when a man got on the subway car she was riding last night, dressed in full Muslim attire and reading from a Koran out loud!

I’m more interested I think in the letter that’s been uncovered from bin Laden’s crew basically saying they want to make Iraq an Islamic state. I think the Christians in that country will definitely have a problem with that.

Larry 10.07.05 at 12:13 pm

Sara,

If the Christians don’t have a problem now they will when the Islamic state essentially murders them for being heretics.

JackFestival 10.07.05 at 12:41 pm

Dan Hamilton,
“The only good terrorist is a DEAD terrorist! I don’t care what side they are on or what they support. Kill them ALL let the Devil sort them out. ”

I second that!

Sara Horn 10.07.05 at 12:53 pm

Larry, you’re absolutely right. That’s why it’s so important that religious protections are included in the Iraqi constitution, which I don’t know will happen or not. There are over one million, maybe closer to 2 million Christians in Iraq. The Iraqi pastor I interviewed back in 2003 said that most Iraqis live together peacefully - Muslim, Christian and other sects. They respect each other. It’s those who lean toward extreme tendencies that make trouble for the rest of them.

My sister and I talked about this yesterday as it unfolded. I don’t know that I take it any more seriously than any other rumor that the news outlets fall all over themselves to report before they actually know what they are reporting. We’re at war and frankly, I’m surprised that this hasn’t happened before now. Anyway, I’m doing my Church Lady “well isn’t that special” face while we watch the “it’s a credible threat, no it isn’t, it is, isn’t, is, isn’t” dance. My sister’s pissed that her commute may be messed up though.

Samantha 10.07.05 at 1:04 pm

I do wonder what it will take to go to red alert though. (Cue Star Trek red alert klaxon!)

Renee 10.07.05 at 1:06 pm

Samantha,
We are a “reactionary” country (have been for the past few decades…

to go to “red alert” would take an actual bomb going off (we don’t believe in proaction..e are to PC and don’t want to hurt feelings)

RedBeard 10.07.05 at 1:27 pm

When the bomb goes off we still don’t want to go to red alert, because that might be deemed aggressive and insensitive to the terrorists’ delicate feelings. We should just take it, while asking CAIR and Ward Churchill to help us understand why the poor downtrodden enemy is mad at us. ;-)

Mean Dean 10.07.05 at 4:40 pm

Throw it against a wall and see if it sticks.

La Shawn, having lived in NYC for 10 years (in a past life), I can state emphatically that anything you throw against the subway walls will stick!

When court nominations are in the air, we often hear the phrase litmus test. Perhaps this one could be called LaShawn’s Litmus Test.
“Are they still searching little old ladies and skipping young men of Middle Eastern descent because it would be racist to search them?”
When the answer to the second part of the question is “no” and to first part “only if they are wearing lumpy burkas”, we will know that sanity has trumped political correctness.

Speaking of terror, do you guys find the media’s silence about our home grown suicide bomber at OU rather extraordinary?

Right Brain 10.08.05 at 7:39 pm

What these articles are leaving out is that we have an election in New York City in about three weeks. The front runner Republican Mayor Bloomberg, has a twelve point lead on the selected Democrat, Fernando Ferrer. If Mayor Bloomberg is re-elected, which is most likely, it will be the fourth time in a row that New York City, a town with an 82% Democratic registration, has elected a Republican to run our government. This feature of NYC, still the most liberal party town in America, drives the Democrats to distraction. After-all, if you can’t make it here….you ain’t gonna make it anywhere.

Tom Bosee 10.09.05 at 11:27 am

Right Brain, the whole time I lived in NYC, I was a registered Democrat, voted in their primaries for candidates that would mess them up in the general election, then I voted Republican! When they say there are five Dems to one Republican in New York City, factor in voters like me. Nobody sees what we do when we close that curtain! God bless America!

Kate yost 10.09.05 at 10:57 pm

Seems to me that if Sunday was the target date ( odd target date)the authorities should have not sounded the alarm on Fri ( stepped up security, yes). They could have waited until sat pm to warn everyone while working to roll up the cell. Now the murdering scum are further underground (if they existed at all)

jan brauner 10.10.05 at 7:36 pm

OK, now we have a situation in NYC where the analysts said there wasn’t a credible threat….Naturally, NY authoritees had to take precautions because of imminent danger to the population….Does any of this sound familiar? Now that nothing happened, and no perps have been discovered, and no WMDs, are we now going to accuse the mayor of…LYING? I’m having fun with this scenario…

Robin Munn 10.12.05 at 10:25 pm

The post is a few days old by now, but it may be worth updating it one more time: this particular threat has turned out to be a hoax. See http://www.cnn.com/2005/US/10/11/nyc.scare/index.html?section=cnn_us and http://www.nypost.com/news/regionalnews/29318.htm for details (NY Post requires registration, try http://bugmenot.com/ for a username and password). The informant who was the source of the intel has admitted that he made this one up, and the three suspects who were arrested have since passed a polygraph test and been released.
