rose 10.28.05 at 3:23 pm: As people already know, kids need both a mom and a dad….there is a balance there with both sides.

The problem I think is that people are just too “accepting” of the boyfriends getting a free pass…..of not stepping up to the responsibility of raising their children and marrying the mother’s of their children.

Real MEN…won’t pressure these women and girls to have sex….it is possible to wait until marriage.

Scott Stiegemeyer 10.28.05 at 5:19 pm: This really is tragic news and represents the further breakdown of the American family. Look to Europe to see where we are headed. In some countries, marriage is becoming rare. I remember reading once about a church in Norway that was offering to pay for dress, flowers, photogs, reception etc. in order to encourage weddings. It worked a bit, but it shows that the traditional nuclear family – in the West – is becoming endangered.
Tim 10.28.05 at 5:55 pm: If you look at the statistics there is a distinct shift from what people typically believe about ‘out of wedlock’ births. These are older women, most with viable means of survival, ie., a job. The trend is down for teen pregnancies and up for older women. Now, ask yourself what is worse, unwed teen mothers or unwed young and middle-aged mothers?

The whole “sexual revolution” is based on a rejection of the father figure, both earthly (in all its variations: the father of the family; authority; tradition) and heavenly (the Father as the unoriginated origin of all—even of the other two persons of the Trinity!).

So the sexual revolution stuff is actually an attack on the very roots of all being.

Frightening.

This is what needs to be taught…

If he or she loves you that much to want to have sex with you, he or she loves you enough to marry you.

The problem here is SIN. Sex outside of the sacred bounds of marriage. Adultery and fornication. Its the continuous push to say that having sex is normal outside the bounds of marriage. Sexual sin is a sin against God and one’s own body. These people are trying to normalize sin!

These unwed mothers, rich and poor, need to be shown the error of their ways and they need our support and prayers. We must have COMPASSION on them.
Jeremy 10.30.05 at 6:42 am: We men are challenged enough in our identity by the rise of women to social equality and economically, possibly more than equality. After all the fact that there are 130 women per 100 men in colleges suggests either that men are failing to organize themselves for success, or that skills that women are more adaptive to – networking(?) cooperation(?) – are the ones more needed in the emerging economy.

It’s a switch to start worrying more about boys than girls in what has been and at the top still is a man’s world. But the honorable role of husband and father becomes all the more precious and central to men’s self-worth, and sense of contribution, now that the economic side is being split equitably.
