A local NAACP chief in Orange County, Florida, has bucked tradition and joined the Republican party. It’s business, he says. Throw it in the pan and watch it sizzle!
From the Orlando Sentinel:
Ninety percent of those I do business with are Republicans,” he said. “Opportunities that have come to my firm have been brought by Republicans.”
To that, Shea responded: “I’m a little confused. Are we talking about the National Association for the Advancement of Construction Professionals — or Colored People?”
Wallace elaborated that his “business” line of thought also referred to the NAACP. Behind many of the power desks in this town sit Republicans. And he said he wants his organization to be part of that structure. Just as importantly, he said, he didn’t want people to immediately brand — or dismiss — NAACP concerns as synonymous with those of liberal Democrats. “I want this branch to be respected,” he said.
More power to Mr. Wallace, although he should have opted to become an independent. Some black folks have a psychological barrier in the brain when it comes to the GOP. Psychological slavery, if you ask me.
A deep and abiding love for the “rob Peter to feed, clothe, house, and entertain Paul” party suppresses otherwise normal brain functioning. In fact, anyone of average intelligence knows that it’s better to make your own way in this world through perseverance (a character-building activity) than rely on Big Daddy Government for sustenance. He that giveth can also taketh away. And give it to someone else.
Never overestimate the intelligence of the average person.
