This is a very good line - you are a kick to read, and yet you seem to bring out the best in most people.

Mean Dean et al,

Venture capitalists are Raaa-isk takers. You wanna guarantee? Buy a refrigerator. Having said that; I'll say that I don't know all of the "metrics" involved. So Rummy, I assume that bloggers, especially the founders, and alternatively Althouse, have a sense of ad revenue and any other revenue. Remember to call Dan and Mary cuz they are in Hollywood consulting on the script for a new movie; "The Little Really Big Election Fix That Couldn't."

OMG! It is a holiday weekend and I just turned on CSPAN! No, It isn't an Arab anti-discrimination forum on Memorial Day weekend. It's Michael Moore .... On another holiday weekend. Demoralization ad nauseam, ad infinitum.

Back to the point. Pajamas. Well, if La Shawn and Tammy are in 'em, that's fine by me!

BUT, I liked the old new name because it represented the synergy and the business side of the venture. It didn't have to be Open Source as a name per se but something that represented Media to a greater degree than a pajama party of blogging which is just one aspect of PJM. Not that there's anything wrong with pajama parties! The Carnivals and Blogjams are great!

PajamasMedia does represent other things but it does such to bloggers and surfers. Open Source was an authoritative name which is intersection of the game. Becoming an authority in parallel to existing authorities.

I still don't get why they nixed the name--their explanation is sort of cryptic. I don't think the development of that site is a big deal, and I'm not impressed with the self-congratulatory style of their announcements. For some reason, some alternative online media groups think they're really cool because they're not the NYTimes. Just write well and give us good info, and we'll decide how cutting-edge it is.

Jealousy is a problem that has been around since the Garden (the Original Sin wasn't sex after all, it was being jealous of God's knowledge & power). Somehow, I can manage to be jealous of my parents, who are using an inheritance to get some luxuries they've never been able to otherwise afford, while I think they've been envious that my job pays much more and is physically easier than the family farm. Silly isn't it? Unfortunately, it's just human nature. We need to strive to get over it, and apologize when it does happen.

Since I tracked back to here in my criticism of OSM, I'll also summarize my last post on my blog here: I was very wrong in my language criticizing OSM. I used wording that was personalizing, and that is never excusable. It's never right to be personal while disagreeing.

I really do hope that PJM does well. There are a lot of good bloggers who need the exposure that PJM can give them, and the concept of a news aggregator for the Blogs rocks. I hope that OSM/Pajama Media fulfills every one of its public goals.

Keep your chin up LaShawn. Of course there will be a few people jealous of you. You're living any hack writer's dream: a full-time writing job. Please know that there's a lot of us who really do appreciate how much work you put into this site.

I was beaten with a stick by a college English professor every time I used "revert back." Well, it wasn't a very big stick. And it wasn't really a beating. And I think he was a professor. But except for that, it's all true.

I love ya, La Shawn! You bring out the gentleman in me. I keep the tawdry nastiness over on my site and play the perfect gentleman over here -- that is, when I have the time to comment.

Just wanted to let you know I'm still here...reading you every day.

Now, back to the filth over at my site!

No offense taken - I figure if I'm gonna dance in the blogosphere, eventually, everyone will step on my toes ... if I don't step on theirs first.

Good point though about progressing a non-story, hadn't thought of it in that light.

Hmmm ... I feel a parody coming on ... something about non stories ... something involving a tin can, an aspargus shoot and a duck .. hmmm ...

I apologize if I implied that you in particular are a whiner or blog about silly things. I was alerted to certain venomous posts (via my traffic log) only because the bloggers, a few I've never heard of and some I'll never visit or link to again, linked to LBC. I do think you're one of the good guys, Dean, and I mean no offense. But I also see you helping to generate such an non-story story. I don't want to be part of any flame wars, either, which I find extremely distasteful and reserved for unimaginative bloggers. Again, I don't mean to offend, but I'd rather my name be kept out of those discussions.

La Shawn, sounds like we're in violent agreement here. I've stated in several places that some people have gone way over the top with ad hominem attacks that don't do anyone any good except to stir the pot needlessly.

I offered an opinion for the same reason I blog - so I'm not so sure if that's just a convenient excuse considering the nature of this beast.

That said, gosh, other than one of my goofy parodies, I hope nothing I'd write would be so inane that you'd call it silly. As for blogging at PM - yeah, that'd be fun, but I really gotta get HealYourChurchWebsite back on its feet first.

Dean, it isn't so much that your opinions are unwanted. I just feel a certain amount of ill will from other bloggers, and besides envy, I can't figure out any other reason. I find it hard to believe that conservative bloggers "care" that mainstream media are watching.

Since when do bloggers worry or concern themselves over what MSM think of them??? You must be kidding. Sorry, but that's just an excuse. I suspect many people are envious and/or simply can't think of anything interesting to blog about on their own and see this as a way to get caught up in a swarm and generate traffic and links for the sake of generating traffic and links. All other explanations ring false.

Opinions are fine. I have plenty of them, but I dispense them on my own blog. I'm not e-mailing bloggers, or commenting and trackbacking to their blogs and whining about something they're doing.

If a group of bloggers wants to enter into a legitimate business relationship with each other for whatever reason, I don't see what it has to do with any other blogger.

Having said all that, you are perfectly free to blog about Pajamas Media 24-7 if you have the urge, and I'm perfectly free to call it silly.

Pajamas Media is such a better name. It's more casual, inherently snarky, and a fitting name for a startup that is by, for, and about bloggers.

Blogging is supposed to be fun and irreverant. The reversion to PJs is a good thing.

As for the rampant blogger envy/sniping/arguing/etc that came up after launch, everyone needs to take a second to relax. It's a week old, and there are kinks to be worked out, just as would be the case with any other new operation. I'm not a PJs media member/contributor, so I have no dog in the fight. I hope it's successful for the sake of all the parties involved. Why? Because I like their blogs.

I'd reserve judgement until a year or so from now, after PJM has finished her "shakedown cruise" so to speak. I think that everyone, supporters and detractors alike, will have a much better idea of where it's headed by then. The arguments the critics and defenders make at that point will have a lot more validity, imho.

Until that time comes, people should probably chill.

I hope it’s successful for the sake of all the parties involved. Why? Because I like their blogs.

I’d reserve judgement until a year or so from now, after PJM has finished her “shakedown cruise” so to speak. I think that everyone, supporters and detractors alike, will have a much better idea of where it’s headed by then. The arguments the critics and defenders make at that point will have a lot more validity, imho.

Until that time comes, people should probably chill.
