As a practicing anesthesiologist, I was stunned with the ignorance of medicine by Planned Parenthood and the Supremes.

One argument was that a process for “emergancy abortions” was lacking, so women with “high blood pressure and liver failure would be endangered by a waiting period”.

This is nonsense. Severe Pregnancy Induced Hypertension (PIH) is rarely life-threatening if treated early, and for severe cases DELIVERY is the treatment. No judicial or parental consent is needed for delivery.

It is somewhat ironic that an “emancipated minor” does NOT need parental consent for such an invasive procedure as a cesarean section, but does for an abortion.

Now is a good time to remember what prochoice activists did to 13-year-old Spring Adams. She was pregnant after being raped by her father. Did the prochoicers Spring went to for help get her father arrested or the girl removed to a safe place? Nope. They spent two weeks arranging an out-of-state abortion, leaving Spring at the mercy of her abuser, who shot her dead in her bed.

The pro-abortion crowd will argue that an abortion is a “medical procedure”. In most states parents are notified before any “medical procedure” is performed on their children. So why is Planned Parenthood and the ACLU so upset about parents being notified about this “medical procedure”?

Kind of makes one think that these groups know that this is more than just a “medical procedure”.

Picture the Supreme Court with the following Justices: Nina Totenberg, Bill Moyers, Oprah Winfrey, Ed Asner, Barabara Steisand, Russ Feingold, Eleanor Clift, Dennis Kucinich and Bill and Hillary Clinton as co-Chief Justice.

Now picture this court hiring Dick Morris, David Gergan and Juan Williams to advise them on how to triangulate the decision of each case.

Oooops! John Kerry is still not happy. Oh, well.
