Oriana Fallaci could well be the Cassandra of our day. I hope that her voice will echo on even after she is gone. Her books do not care about political correctness or being "sensitive" to avoid offending people. She writes honestly, with brutal honesty at times, and I will miss that kind of forthright, unashamed, fearless expression.

In the meanwhile, it's up to those who live on after Oriana to carry on.

I have followed and read Oriana Fallaci for years.

She is earthy and feisty, an atheist and brutally honest. In a Wall Street Journal interview she said: "I feel less alone when I read the books of Ratzinger.....I am an atheist, and if an atheist and a pope think the same things, there must be something true. It's that simple! There must be some human truth here that is beyond religion."

Ms. Fallaci will soon be gone, but her intelligent trust in the instincts of Cardinal Ratzinger will remain. I suggest we should become more aware or the writings of the man who has become Pope. He is fully aware of the dwindling numbers of old ladies who keep the faith in Europe while the population tide of young Islamists swells worldwide.

Thanks for the info on Oraina (I had not heard of her before now but I am glad she is there and not afraid of the truth... which seems to be a common character trait these days).

dianne,
Protect freedom of speech... all for it... protect Christianity... from what... man??, he is no match regardless of what false god he worships. We only need Christ for protection.

Sorry but America turned it's back long ago and thinks that it can straddle the fence and that there is such a thing as a country that promotes the worship of many little gods. history time and time again has proven that to be a myth. Either we are for Christ or against Him but there is no middle ground and man does not give us our authority to spread the Gospel (even if he, man, does make laws saying it is against his, man's, law). What we need to protect Christianity from is the spineless Christians who claim to be Christian but are more concerned with Christmas trees at city hall but you'll never hear the Gospel out of their mouths, or Christians who run around apologizing when they call Islam or any other religion false or headed by false gods. The truth hurts but you gotta say it (like Oriana has done). America gave up on the truth years ago and short of a real "biblical" revival (not the Rick Warren or Billy Graham kind), it's only a matter of time before we are Amerab.

Good and insightful article. Dennis Prager has talked about Ms. Fallaci for a long time - I'm glad she's still raising hell..

Oh my gosh. I had no idea things were like that in Italy. Thank GOD for America. We must never let that happen here! It is time for action to protect our freedom of speech and to protect Christianity. I am seeing an all out assault on Christianity in this country. I'm scared. I'm really scared.
