Hey peeps! Hube here again. Check this out:
Perpetual racial huckster Al Sharpton has a new gig: pitchman for car title loans.
In commercials airing locally, the ever-colorful Sharpton stands on a stage with an American flag and happily declares, “Finally, there’s someone in Virginia who will loan money to people the big guys won’t loan to.”
Car title lenders give cash to those who own their cars free and clear, with interest rates that can approach 300 percent annually. The lender can repossess and sell the car if the short-term loan is not repaid on time. The controversial practice is permitted in about half the states, and consumer groups are pushing hard for more regulation. “These are predatory small loans,” said Jean Ann Fox of the Consumer Federation of America.
Al doesn’t feel any problem with the ads:
“If I felt this is in any way abusive, I would stop doing the ads,” Sharpton said yesterday. He filmed three commercials for LoanMax, a Georgia-based company with 150 offices across the country, and said he considers these loans different from predatory ones because the borrowers have assets (the car) but not the credit rating to get bank loans.
To virtually no one’s surprise, Al’s like-minded political brethren have felt differently about “predatory” lending. “Predatory Lending is the civil rights issue for this century,†says Congressional Black Caucus member Stephanie Tubbs-Jones (D-OH) who refers to the matter as a “civil rights issue.”
But this is Al Sharpton, folks. With a list of questionable activities as long as a Fidel Castro speech, Al will nevertheless get a pass on this, too. Besides, according to LoanMax president Rod Aycox, “People just love Reverend Sharpton.”
Speak for yourself, Rod.

My mom told me about seeing Al’s commercial but I didn’t believe her… to SAD!!!
Nope, Al has no problem ripping off the same poor black folks he claims to want to help (just as long as he can keep his hairdresser and jet, it’s all good).
You gotta luv those priorities for the good ‘ole Rev (going to go puke now)
And here I’ve been wracking my brain trying to think-up another parody …
… real life, always stranger than fiction!
“If I felt this is in any way abusive, I would stop doing the ads,†says the Reverend Al.
It is in NO WAY abusive (to Al) as he gets paid in advance and in cash.
Remember, he doesn’t even own the suits he wears. (Wink, chuckle, grin.)
Hey, IRS, the Reverend Al has donated his love for the little people……no money involved. (Wink, chuckle, grin.) Really!
I guess the good reverend forgot all those lessons in the Bible against usury.
Eze 22:12 In thee have they taken gifts to shed blood; thou hast taken usury and increase, and thou hast greedily gained of thy neighbours by extortion, and hast forgotten me, saith the Lord GOD.
Thank you for posting this.
I’m passing this along.
A weasel is a weasel, even if he is doing ad’s for car loans
Just think if focused you efforts on companies like LoanMax as they prey on people in need. But, it is always better to keep shuffling and jiving as long as you get hits to your blog.
A crawler last night on “E” television indicated (I dearly hope they were kidding, but it was in the middle of a news crawler) that Sharpton has signed on to a starring role in his own sitcom.
Clayton: Why isn’t Sharpton focused on it — I mean he’s supposed to have his very LIFE devoted to such “causes,” right? It’s his JOB, apparently, if indeed he’s ever held one. The “shuffling” and “jiving” is done by Al — not only is he not focusing on the matter (as his “job” description would have him do), he’s actively PROMOTING the detrimental product! The mere fact that I’ve posted about this topic shows I’m doing more than the Rev. to expose cos. like LoanMax.
I know you get it, so spare us the inanity, huh?
Kill the root of the problem. But, attacking predatory business like (Pay Check Loan companies, Rent to Own companies and High interest lenders) is not flashy. Just keep attacking the spokesman. What I have learned, is the easiest target is the best.
I guess you didn’t get it, Clay. My bad.
Criminy – I almost drove my car of the road when I heard that ad. Really, they should warn people first of unintentional hilarity!
Nothing like a successful advertising campaign. The company is clearly getting its money’s worth. Just by the fact that you are talking about Al and the ad demonstrates its success.
You go Al. Sometimes po black folks just need enough money to keep from getting evicted.
When I saw this ad, I was offended, but not surprised. Everyone knows Al Sharpton is a hustler–a low level hustler at that. Seriously, how much money do you think he made doing that commercial. I guess only the high level hustlers get the rolls royces, yachts, graduation parties, etc…yeah just finished reading the story about Mr. Cunningham…haven’t seen any posts here about though.
Clayton,
A SUPPOSED Man of the Cloth is promoting a company which preys on needy people to make money, and he is called out for it, and you say we’re focusing on the wrong thing? No, we’re TRYING to get him to focus on the RIGHT thing and not his pocket book. All he’s showing is that he’s a greedy, conniving, selfish, egotistical man who isn’t doing the job he claims the Lord GOD called him for. Mentoring his flock. Nope, he’s FLEECING his flock.
Dan
he must be desperate for money why dont he try and sell us a bridge
Yep, seen/scoffed/laughed at the Reverend Al’s ads here in Central NC.
