Update III (9:59 p.m.): The U.S. Supreme Court will not stop Williams’s execution, scheduled for 12:01 a.m. PST. Although he may be saved, I’ll pray for him tonight and ask God to show him mercy. Just in case…
Update II (6:20 p.m.): If only I could tell people off half as well. Alas, I have neither the patience nor the temperament. Well, enough of this death talk! I’m going to wrap up the task at hand, grab some grub, and watch Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory for the 20th time. Peace.
Update (3:42 p.m.): Governor Schwarzenegger denies clemency. If Williams really is saved, he will see his Savior soon. I know that sounds like hogwash to unbelievers, but to Christians, it’s God’s promise to us and a reality we look forward to.
For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. For it is written:
“I will destroy the wisdom of the wise; the intelligence of the intelligent I will frustrate.”
Where is the wise man? Where is the scholar? Where is the philosopher of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not know him, God was pleased through the foolishness of what was preached to save those who believe. Jews demand miraculous signs and Greeks look for wisdom, but we preach Christ crucified: a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles, but to those whom God has called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. For the foolishness of God is wiser than man’s wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than man’s strength. — 1 Corinthians 1: 18-25

Liberal California Supreme Court rules 6-0 against stay of execution for Stanley “Tookie” Williams.
So what’s it going to be, Arnie?
Addendum: I didn’t know December 13 (tomorrow) was the execution date. I’m glad I won’t be on the giving or receiving end of this one. FullosseousFlap is holding a Tookie watch.
The following may be a tad insensitive in light of Tookie Williams’s impending death by lethal injection, but I had to blog about the once-funny Eddie Murphy’s Saturday Night Live skit, Prose and Cons (get it?), in which he played a poetic thug. It’s written by none other than Norman “White Negro” Mailer. The funniest part of the routine is Murphy’s poem:
Dark and lonely on the summer night.
Kill my landlord, kill my landlord.
Watchdog barking – Do he bite?
Kill my landlord, kill my landlord.
Slip in his window,
Break his neck!
Then his house
I start to wreck!
Got no reason –
What the heck!
Kill my landlord, kill my landlord.
C-I-L-L …
My land – lord …
Def!
It’s one of those you-had-to-have-seen-it moments. Murphy’s facial expressions were priceless. I haven’t watched SNL in years, but in the 80s (The parents wouldn’t let me watch it in the mid- to late 70s when John Belushi ran the set), it was rocking.

It is really sickening to hear liberals claim Tookie is redeemed? Redeemed how? I don’t hear him taking responsibility for EVERY child that joined the Crips, or every innocent bystanader that was killed by a stray Crips bullet or any other perosn that has suffered because of the gang he started and many he influenced. That is what it means for true repentence.
I don’t get it–why are all those famous people defending that guy? Is it because he wrote a book? It’s like that murderer that Arthur Miller defended (forgot his name)–all these famous people called him “talented” etc. because he wrote tortured tomes, and then they got him out of jail. Then he ended up murdering again. Arthur Miller still defended him because of his “artistry.”
Sorry all, but mj’s post reminded me of that really un-PC SNL skit many moons ago featuring Eddie Murphy as “artistic” inmate Tyrone Green. He recited a poem which included this gem in its twisted stanzas: “…C-I-L-L my landlord.”
FL Mom – That was the funniest skit, wasn’t it? He’s not my cup of tea these days, but back in the day, Eddie Murphy was one of the few comic geniuses around.
The interesting thing is the number of “black community leaders” who are supporting this murdering thug. Aren’t they the same ones who have called for more money for programs to keep kids from joining gangs like the crips? Ironic the their message now is that its okay to kill innocent people as long as you have friends in “high” places and pray with jesse the mouth jackson. The hollywierd types are once again showing their contempt for law. After all celebrity is more important than justice in kalifornia. Wonder when the riots will start and who will be targeted. After all its the governor who is making this decision. Will Anold’s home be ransacked and his family killed? Or will Korean grocers and whites be targeted again for the stupidity of the kalifornia justice system.
mj: I wonder if you have Arthur Miller mixed up with Norman Mailer? Mailer championed Jack Henry Abbott as a literary genius and Abbott rode his fame and celebrity right into his next brutal murder.
LaShawn: Tookie has had how long to get his “I am innocent” claim affirmed?” The real question here is “why do we allow the death sentence to drag out so long?”
Can you imagine how long Saddam could drag out his appeals if he had the ACLU, Left Coast Liberals and the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals to help him manipulate the system?
Oh yeah Heliotrope–it’s Norman Mailer. I’m totally laughing now. I guess I was so confused it messed up my references. And that’s exactly the guy–Abbott.
Yeah, that “CILL my landlord” skit was funny. Once Eddie Murphy became popular, he just started talking about himself.
What if those Texan white boys who dragged a black man to his death had their death penalty commuted to life because “they found Jesus”?
La Shawn – I don’t remember anything else from that skit besides the poem, but that by itself was hilarious. Yeah, what you said about his expressions and stuff…a total riot.
I think the last Eddie Murphy movie I saw was “The Nutty Professor.” Even if he’s not so funny these days, I appreciate the fact that he’s not just cussin’ a blue streak anymore.
Yet another movie poster parody: Saving Tookie Williams
I would agree that SNL’s best days were the 70’s and 80’s. I’m only 22, but I’ve seen a lot of the older stuff on video. Brilliant. Today’s SNL is a joke however, and not in a good way. I especially can’t stand those two feminazis who do weekend update. Tina Fay and I want to say Rachel Dratch. They’re awful. Considering that Lorne Michaels is still in charge, I think he’s really let it slide.
It’s not SNL’s liberalism that bothers me. I can tolerate attacks on conservatives as long as they’re genuinely funny and good natured. Norm MacDonald’s Bob Dole impression back in the 90’s was as good as they come. My favorite slap at the left has to be Will Farrel in “Janet Reno’s Dance Party.” That was unforgettable stuff. So I guess the 90’s SNL was pretty good too. But today’s show sucks!
MJ – these Hollywood elites don’t give a damn about Tookie or his victims (thousands, murdered by Crips, nationwide). They DO care about their own careers.
Does anyone believe fading star Mike Farrell would have ANY photo op aside from MASH re-runs?
The cluelessness of Black and White elites was no more clear than when this reporter (card-carrying anti death penalty) went into the “inner city” of Los Angeles to interview “the people” – and he acted surprised when “the people” supported the death penalty for Tookie.
So there you have it in “Black and White” (pun intended) – the NAACP and Mike Farrell and Jamie Foxx and others do NOT represent law abiding Black people.
Is any sane person surprised by this? “The people” whose lives have been permanently changed by this gang violence want to see Tookie dead.
C-I-L-L….. my land-lord……. The single funniest poem ever written by anyone, ever!!!! Thanks for the memory.
Plus – although he could have left some of the 4-letter words out, his Gumby bits were just as priceless!
As for Tookie, it’s time for him to go. It’s past time. All these losers who are calling for clemency and who claim to have suddenly found witnesses that prove he’s innocent, it’s too late. You had 24 years to make your point. Tookie, rest, but not in peace.
Arnold does the right thing…burn in Hell Tookie.
Murphy was a genius back in his SNL days. The “James Brown Celebrity Hot Tub” has to be THE single funniest skit ever to date. I need oxygen after viewing that bit! In addition, when Murphy disguises himself as a white guy to see how white people are “treated” — another priceless skit!!
Your quote from Corinthians is a good one, but this one from Chapter 7:17-24 is especially relevant:
“Nevertheless, each one should retain the place in life that the Lord assigned to him and to which God has called him. This is the rule I lay down in all the churches. Was a man already circumcised when he was called? He should not become uncircumcised. Was a man uncircumcised when he was called? He should not be circumcised. Circumcision is nothing and uncircumcision is nothing. Keeping God’s commands is what counts. Each one should remain in the situation which he was in when God called him. Were you a slave when you were called? Don’t let it trouble you—although if you can gain your freedom, do so. For he who was a slave when he was called by the Lord is the Lord’s freedman; similarly, he who was a free man when he was called is Christ’s slave. You were bought at a price; do not become slaves of men. Brothers, each man, as responsible to God, should remain in the situation God called him to.”
Paul refutes the “I found Jesus” defense pretty openly. When I was little, my family used to give some brothers from a bad neighborhood a ride to church. One of them, Nelson Shelton, went on to beat a man to death and was eventually executed for his crime. He found faith in prison. People would ask him whether he thought he should be let off. Nelson said that he did the crime, the penalty is just, and if the family wanted his death to give them closure then they had the right to take it.
“Images” – By Tyrone Green. Priceless…
I remember when Karla Faye Tucker was executed in Texas. I have no reason to believe that her conversion was anything but genuine, and I hope to run into her someday in the New Jerusalem. But she wasn’t executed for not being saved; she was executed for murder, and her conversion doesn’t alter the fact of the crime for which she was convicted and punished.
I hope Tookie Williams has truly converted as well, and that he can look forward to a resurrected life and, God willing, a new nickname. But he still did the crimes for which he’s being executed; I don’t believe there’s been much argument about that. Clemency should be based on doubt about guilt or on extenuating circumstance, not on children’s books.
I feel the same way, my friend. And I don’t believe Tucker ever asked to be spared because she was a Christian, either. No true believer, in my opinion, would try to avoid just punishment by the state by claiming that because God has forgiven him, the state should do likewise, especially if he’s well-versed in Scripture. His spiritual salvation is between himself and his Savior.
Man has the God-given authority to dispense justice for wrongdoing, and Christians are obliged to submit to that authority. While God can wipe the slate clean spiritually, the state is under no obligation to spare a murderer because of it.
You guys don’t really want to see Mike Farrell cry, do you?
Okay, you hate Tookie, but what do you have against BEEDGE?
Next you’ll be picking on Radar.
Jesse Jackson has weighed in on this case, but whose side is he really on?
I can only pray that someone who knows the TRUE, SAVING GOSPEL (not Jesse Jackson) can share that with Tookie Williams this evening. The only tragedy here (in regards to Tookie) is to die separated from the Lord.
To die with a saving faith in the Lord is to gain more than this world could ever give or promise.
I’m going to pray for him. In the end we either go to hell or heaven. Remember the thief on the cross–he got in at the last minute.
Addendum: I HATE gangs but I don’t wish hell on them.
“Tookie” Williams has not reformed and he has passed on his business to his family. He tried to escape once too.
got this from Misha’s site.
Despite his alleged turnaround, prison officials state Williams is still involved with the Crips, directing action from his jail cell for the past eleven years. San Quentin spokesman Vernell Crittendon notes Tookie still maintains an “unusually large bank account,†being mailed checks 50 or 100 times larger than those other inmates (like Scott Peterson) receive. Not only has he never admitted guilt in the murder – much less expressed any remorse – and continues to consort with Crips in prison.
(…)
And he’s never helped the one force that could effectively stop the Crips: the Los Angeles Police Department. Tookie Williams has revealed nothing about the personnel, practices, or operational structure of the gang he co-founded. In his writings, he boasts he “underwent many years of soul-searching and re-education, without ‘debriefing’ (another word for ‘snitching’).†Snitching, he says, would “rip my dignity out of my chest†– an unfortunate image for a man who shot (at least) four people through the torso at close range.
Tookie’s good example failed to rub off on those closest to him. The California penal system seems to be holding a Williams family reunion. His son, Stanley “Little Tookie†Williams Jr., serves alongside him in San Quentin, convicted on a 16-year sentence for second-degree murder of a 20-year-old woman. Another son, registered sex offender Lafayette Jones, is now wanted by Fontana, California, police for allegedly molesting an ex-girlfriend’s 13-year-old daughter at gunpoint, holding the child captive for six hours on the afternoon of on November 13.

How many other CONVICTED murderers in this country are still alive? WHY? WHY? WHY?
Outward appearances dont seem to indicate that Tookie was not repentant. I would have liked to see him admit his murders, apologize to the families of the victims, say that he was a slave of Satan at the time of the killings ,and express his belief in Christ and appreciation for his sacrifice on the Cross. That didnt happen. So I find the whole thing sad.
About 20 years ago in Florida a convicted killer was put to death ( I cant remember his name) but I remember what he said, “I have hostility towards none and may God bless all”. At the time I thought
here was a man who had really changed inwardly.
In case we forget, God can and does forgive murderers who believe in his Son and repent of thier sins. And in case we forget, we ALL deserve the death penalty for our sins.
“For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.â€
Thats a typo above. It should read:
“Outward appearances dont seem to indicate that Tookie was repentant.”
In other words, he didnt look repentant to me.
Tookie got what he deserved for these heinous crimes.
I doubt he repented or even acknowledged Christ.
At least I never saw any evidence of that.
I think of the two thieves hanging with Jesus on His crucifixion day. One acknowledged his crimes and Christ and asked Him to remember him when He came to his kingdom. The other one mocked Him.
They both died for their crimes, but one went to paradise, the other to Hell.
It could have been that easy for Tookie.
There is nothing more important in life than knowing where you are going to spend eternity.
I never knew you could question another man’s faith? When were we given the right to decide that? Just two questions for Christians to ponder.
#24 AMEN La Shawn
All power comes from the barrel of a gun.
Whether that gun is in the hands of a Crip or a US soldier in Iraq.
I think 30,000 Iraqis have been killed since the invasion.
Not all legally.
There is no point to the death sentence. Reading the comments to this blog makes me weep for the human race.
Surely your god will judge us all in the end, and he won’t mind waiting a few years. You all seem far too eager to get there first.
“He who is without sin cast the first stone.” Tookie Smith said that he was a reformed man and a born-again christian. We did not know Tookie Smith personally, so therefore, it is not for us to judge this man. We only know what the media speaks of and makes him out to be. Everyone has the right to redemption, even if one did live a life of crime. But, society does have a way of judging people based on their past, even when they have reformed into role model citizens. Tookie Smith did not right those books just to pass time. He wrote those books from his heart, to help children and to hopefully prevent them from following into his footsteps. Tookie Smith has always maintained his innocence. He only wanted to have a new trial to hopefully clear his name.
