Death Penalty Sought in Pa. Slayings
The 18-year-old will probably be in his 30s before he gets the needle, that is, if the jury chooses death during the penalty phase and if the death sentence isn’t thrown out on some technicality.
But I wonder…which vain and vacuous Hollywood celebrities will demand that David Ludwig’s life be spared the way they did for gangbanger Stanley “Tookie” Williams?
I wouldn’t hold your breath waiting to find out. Scott Peterson’s still waiting for his celebrity drag.
Don’t get me wrong. I’m not sympathetic. If I ran things, I’d be inclined to throw murderers in a giant vat of boiling oil, no matter what color they were.
But that’s probably too medieval for our post-modern sensibilities…

La Shawn,
This is why I secretly harbor fantasies of having you as the next Chief Justice of SCOTUS
Nothing like a little medieval punishment to deter would-be criminals!
I dont think all murders are the same. They all have an evil spirit possessing them no doubt. But they are no more all the same than all homosexuals are the same. Or all drug addicts. Or all drunks.
There is redemption and salvation for some murders and I think we ought to be careful about lumping them all together. I like you La Shwan but your wrong about this.
My money is on Britney Spears and Paris Hilton trying to get face time on David Lugwig’s fate. That should be twenty or more years from now and folks will have to tell their kids why those two air-heads were ever famous.
So far as redemption and salvation for selected murderers is concerned, I would insist that the victims be restored to a productive life as a prerequisite for considering the murderer as “differentiated” from bobbing in the pot of boiling oil.
They will ignore him becuase he is white and dont belong to a gang like the crips
Although I don’t favor the death penalty, it’s an interesting take. Thanks for keeping us on our toes intellectually.
Wishing you a Merry Christmas and Happy Blogging in 2006.
I’m waiting to see if Mike Farrell will ask clemency for the murderers of James Byrd. I know, not gonna happen.
You wrote that this 18 year old will be thirty before he gets the death penalty (assuming that he gets that sentence). You’re wrong. He’ll probably die of old age.
Pennsylvania has only executed 4 people since 1976, and all of them gave up their appeals and asked for the end to come. The courts bend over backwards to avoid handing down a death penalty here. It’s like an unofficial moratorium.
