Carla, #98....I wish you no ill or misfortune. Certainly New Orleans has the right to ask for understanding as it teeters on the brink of calamity along with the Gulf coast cities that are subject to hurricane destruction.

New Orleans is subject to a triple whammy or more. 1) It is dependent upon a levee system that makes it unique in the United States; 2) The governor of Louisiana has asked for/demanded reparations that are beyond all logical understanding; 3) Mayor Nagin is a failed leader who demands serious consideration; 4) Louisiana and New Orleans have long been victimized by institutional corruption.

If the rest of us look at your plight and wonder if more dollars won't just fatten the goose of political opportunism, do you honestly wonder why?

Obviously, the honest Louisiana citizen should not be held accountable for the misdeeds of others. But considering the heritage of the Longs, Edwards, Landrieus and Nagin how are we who are outside of Louisiana to know whom to trust?

This comment is directed towards Theresa's above. I understand everyone's frustration with our Mayor's comments. He's clearly out of his mind. As one of the "uptown" (read: white) people he so carelessly talks about in his speech, I take his comments very personally. However, there is no call at all for people such as Theresa, no matter how well-founded their anger at Mayor Nagin, to openly wish for my home to be destroyed. I am tired of people from all over this country making a judgment on our right to live in this place. We don't really give a damn about the fact that it wouldn't ruin ya'll's lives if our beloved city was destroyed - it's our home you idiots - whether you like it or not. I am not responsible for the mayor's comments, I didn't vote for him, why wish ill on all of us who live here??? It's hypocrital and ignorant. THere is a large population of soulful and wonderful people of all colors and creeds down here in New Orleans. You don't see the good things going on down here on your news - it's happening, but I guess it doesn't make for good fodder to spout off about on the internet so of course you wouldn't bother finding out the whole story. Yes, we have had our problems but guess what lady, a lot of big cities struggle with these same issues. We just happen to be a metropolis located in one of the poorest states with a deep-seated history of class problems. You should think twice before talking about things that you clearly know nothing about and claiming to be so high minded while wishing for people's home to be destroyed.

When I make Nesquick I use a whole glass of milk and two spoons of chocolate, so does that mean Mr. Nagin's New Orleans will be mostly white with just a couple of scoops of blacks?

I guess that makes Houston an "Ovaltine City".

Mr. Nagan's comment implies that God had decreed slavery.

Since New Orleans was founded by the French it was not an area populated by people of (according to Mr. Nagan) the proper pigmentation. Thus apparently according to this gentlemen the development of New Orleans as a slave market was desired and necessary to satisfy God's desire to produce the proper racial composition for the city.

Am I the only one who thinks this sounds like the people who defended slavery and Jim Crow in the guise of religion during the 18 to the mid 20th century?

nagin is a racist, self-serving hypocrite just like jesse, louie, and big al, who should be brought up on charges for his total mishandling of the evacuation during Katrina. His family was safe in Dallas, while the people who pay his bills where suffering from his gross incompetence. Why should we, the American taxpayer, have our hard earned money sent to help this city out of its mess? According to the msm, only n.o. was hit during the hurricane. Guess the rest of those people along the gulf coast just don’t rate. Must be because they are not predominately "chocolate".

As vile as this sounds, I hope the next hurricane hits n.o and wipes it off the map completely. The issues surfacing now have been plaguing that city forever. Nobody cared before how corrupt the mayor, the police force, city council was until the water flooded in and forced the scum to the top. I did hear comments from nagin’s constituency defending his remarks. Truly amazing, in this day of readily available information, how ignorant some people still choose to be.

Maybe the hurricane was divine retribution on New Orleans for electing Nagin...

But seriously, one thing that the Katrina disaster showed is that it could kill you if your local and state officials are incompetent.
