As a matter of historical interest, this idea was part of a Godfrey Cambridge routine in the mid 60s. Quoted here in part:

“…so I recognized a prime need to be fulfilled here and I started the ‘Cambridge Rent-a-Negro Service.’ And I found out you can’t rent ‘em too light! Client says; ‘man, you done ruined my party! This cat don’t even look colored.’ I said ‘put that fool on the phone…Baby, will you tell the man you’re colored, you’re costing me MONEY!’ He said ‘I ain’t colored! I just have more fun this way!’

So I had to go fill in for him. Had to answer all those very hip questions…’yeah, I like watermelon…Joe Louis IS a heck of a fighter…dance?….sure.’ Cat says ‘that’s not very good.’ I said ‘well I’m only part colored.’…”

I have only met a few people like you in real life. Most are working and are afraid to say and talk about these issues. They have to “toe the line” and “not act ‘white’ ” in school. I taught in public school for 29 years. Most of the younger generation would love for a few ‘you know whos’ to shut up and sit down!

This kind of reminds me of a comment once made off the cuff by a former head of the SC Democratic Party. Responding to complaints of state dems “buying the Black vote he quipped, “I don’t want to buy the Black vote; just rent it for a day”

I think this is racist. What about rent a Kanaka? Surely liberals would like to rent a token super-minority? I want some of that easy money.

Okay, there’s probably no money in it, so I guess I don’t really want to volunteer for rent a Kanaka. Bummers though, since I can’t win the lottery and this would’ve been nice for extra cash.

Oh, and I do plan to buy a lottery ticket after I’ve been hit by lightning a few times since the odds would be the same.

The difference, Lisa, is that conservatives don’t preach skin color diversity and lecture people about who they ought to “tolerate.” White liberals, especially those who live as far away from blacks as they can get, are the hypocrites, and their idea of diversity is only skin deep. I like this article,as it actually defines a lot of whites not just limousine libs,and I can think of some conservatives who I find just as condescending to Black folks as they lefty counterparts.But,it was still funny nonetheless.

Now you’ve got me confused! If I am paying rent in order to have the use of something, to whom am I paying the rent? Presumably to the owner!

So if the Negro I am renting has an owner, then aren’t there some Constitutional issues involving the 13th Amendment? And if he/she has no owner, then whythehell am I paying rent to anyone? And if the so-called “rent” I am paying is really a salary, then don’t I have to get a social security number, check the ID for the right to legally be employed, and report it all to the IRS?

We can laugh all we want (this IS humorous, you know), but these are all valid legal issues. It is noted that during some of the litigation over the recent death of the late R&B entertainer Aaliyah Dana Haughton, Justice Carol Edmead of the New York Supreme Court, New York County actually ruled that Aaliyah was an asset of her production company [http://decisions.courts.state.ny.us/fcas/fcas_docs/2004jun/30060347520032sciv.pdf], though Judge Edmead was overruled on appeal [http://www.courts.state.ny.us/reporter/3dseries/2005/2005_00096.htm].

In all seriousness, Judge Edmead is a competent and well-respected jurist. Even the best judges are overruled on occasion. But I cannot help but wonder what kind of outcry we would have heard from the liberals if Judge Edmead were not an African-American.
