La Shawn,

I saw the image at the top of this post and immediately a William Blake passage flashed into my head...

"To see a world in a grain of sand
And heaven in a wild flower
Hold infinity in the palm of your hand
And eternity in an hour."
~William Blake, Auguries of Innocence

Thought I'd share...

Cheers,

If we believe that the killing of an unborn child is the murder of a human being, then we have to believe that a child conceived by rape has the same right to live that others do. In addition, based on women that I know who have had abortions, the last thing that a rape victim needs to add to the trauma of a rape is the trauma of having made the irreversible decision to end her child's life. I don't think that it is kindness to allow abortion - I think that it is a cruelty to present such an awful choice to women in the toughest and most disorienting times of their lives, and then expect them to live with the consequences.

That said, I don't believe that abortion in the case of rape is likely to become illegal, whatever happens in the rest of the debate, because even most pro-life advocates are afraid that such a stance will make them seem less than sympathetic to rape victims. However, the fact that abortion-after-rape will probably remain legal does not mean that we as Christians should practice it, or that we can't try to help women in this situation to make the decision to allow their children to live. God has the ability to bring great blessings out of tragedy, and in some cases we have the option of rejecting those blessings or accepting them.

Then you disagree with hundreds of "conservative christian" preachers and pastors in this nation, including Billy Graham. Billy Graham must also be an unbeliever since he believes in abortion in the cases of rape and incest AND health to the mother.

Did I say God's laws change with the circumstances? Nope. Does God allow and even command for people to committ certain acts that appear to be to contrary to His own law? Yep. Why? Dont know, God is God, we arent and SIN in is this world until Christ sets up his kingdom here.

Killing of innocents is not murder in all occasions. What about collateral damage in war? Innocents are PURPOSELY killed to achieve an end. Isnt all LIFE precious?
God allows this to happen. God even told Israel to do it. Whats the difference?
There is none. Innocent people are purposely killed for SOME reason (protect people, bring about change, etc.) and it is justified.

I'm not talking about the death penalty. Someone who maliciously kills someone for no real reason should be put to death. This is justified.

Is God's law changing to accommodate war? Nope. Is our "Christian" president guilty of murder? He knew innocent people would have to be killed. What gives? Somehow God allows for these things.
God is still good and just.

What about the story of Rahab in Joshua 2, she lied! Yet it was credited to her as faith on her part in Hebrews 11:31 God allowed that. Is lying still wrong? Yep. God is good and just.

There is just no explanation.

God says, "thou shalt not murder" But he allowed for murder in some cases. He said "thou shalt not lie" but allowed it in some cases. I dont understand.

What about during hurrican katrina and people were STEALING food from the convenience stores to survive. I'm talking about those who really needed that food and/or medical supplies to survive. God's command says, "thou shalt not steal" Are they thieves? God's law has not changed. Did God condemn them for that?

Therefore, I believe the circumstances warrant what is allowed or not. God allows for an out.
God even allows an out for killing with no hostile intent, in Numbers 35:11. Someone murders someone, and He allowed them to flee to another country.

Thats why Jesus talked about the heart and the intent of the heart. Thats what its about.

If a woman gets raped, she should have the CHOICE to have that child or not. She was not engaged in consensual sex. Of course its not the unborn child's fault, but its not the woman's fault either. If she wants to have it, fine, wants to have it and give it up for adoption, great. She doesnt want it, thats fine too. Her decision.

I'm not talking about the "convenience store" abortion-on-demand where you are of age and you had consensual relations and then get or got someone pregnant and just dont want the baby. There is a difference.

What I'm saying is that abortion should be ILLEGAL, except in certain NARROWLY-DEFINED cases such as rape and/or incest. Bottomline.

I'm not an unbeliever. I dont know everything, but I know Christ.

<em>If you think I care whether I "disagree" with Billy Graham or "conservative christian" fools who believe abortion is no longer murder if the woman is raped, you're sadly and depravedly mistaken. Before I lose my temper, let's just "agree to disagree" on this and let God deal with the unsaved, murderers or otherwise. - Admin</em>

to comment # 14 (LukeNC) what fault is it of that child the horrible crime that befell his/her mother? In addition, if you believe that God is the one Who gives life, then you must ask why did God create this life. Just so that it could be snuffed out? That logic doesn't hold. Here is an interested article I link to on my blog now and then to show the depths of love. It's called "<a href="http://www.christianitytoday.com/tc/2005/002/2.22.html" rel="nofollow">Loving the Rapist's child</a>". If God can love us who are NOT innocent, then certainly we can love the innocent.

How can we say that a woman who was RAPED cannot decide if she wants that child or not.

Or, a 12 year old girl who gets raped by her father cannot have an abortion?

If my daughter was of age, GOD forbid, and raped I would let her decide to have an abortion or not. But if she was not of age? I would have her get an abortion. I would get it for her.

Is that murder? Does God want her to have that child? I dont think so.

Thats what I'm talking about. There HAS to be some middle ground here, and I dont see it.

<em>And you call yourself a Christian? :? You believe God would want you, a Christian man, to allow your child to commit infanticide because she was raped? So God's laws change depending on the circumstances? God, as you should know, calls Christians to be different from the world. As hard as it may be on your child and your family, the life inside her is still a LIFE, and that life should not be snuffed out because he was conceived in rape. This is how I expect unbelievers to talk. Unbelievable. - Admin</em>

I wonder if anyone here believes in a woman's right to an abortion in the case of rape or incest?

I think this will be the biggest battle for sure especially within the Christian community.

<em>As a Christian, do you believe abortion is no longer murder if the child was conceived during rape or incest? Why you think "this" is a big "battle" is a mystery. - Admin</em>

Hi La Shawn and readers--I wish I could join you at the Blogs4Life event. Next year maybe.

Later today, representatives from <a href="http://www.silentnomoreawareness.org" rel="nofollow">Silent No More</a> will hold their "I Regret My Abortion" signs at the NOW rally on the steps of the Supreme Court, and I'll be posting up direct reports from my friends who will be doing that.

I've also got a lot of coverage of yesterday's Walk for Life in San Francisco.
