He was preaching a very convicting sermon one Sunday at St. Georges (Church of Scotland which we would know as Presbyterian); a listener, a middle aged woman responding to his clarion call to faith, approached him at the door as she exited and said: "Oh, Dr. Stewart, I must change greatly." Whereupon that great soul and inspiring pastor said: What a pity; God loves you so much as you are." Only you can tell whether the story has any relevance to your question about switching to the Republican Party from Independent voter, but there may be wisdom in reminding you that God loves you very much as you are. God himself seems quite Independent most of the time!! Your blog site continues to be excellent.
