Business owners have been complaining on talk radio for months now because they are offering $15+/hr on jobs that paid $8-9 pre-Katrina and STILL can't find someone that will show up for more than 4 days straight. Fast food chains literally have signs with $1500-2500 sign on bonuses.

Honestly though, we only have govt. to blame for the entitlement attitude? Why break a sweat, work hard, and labor in the heat.... when you can walk to the mail box and get a "check" just because you are entitled to it?

Believe it or not, we actually have understaffed McDonalds that pay "unskilled" workers $12-15/hr. Who would've thought? And to think I used to believe I was so fortunate in my senior year to be making $3.35/hr!! Oh boy how the times have changed!

How about "A day without an American!"

So let me get this right, we are going to have to suffer through “A Day without a Mexican” to more appreciate those citizens of Mexico that have broken into our country? Ok I think I get it, it is ok for someone to break into your home as long as they do the dishes. I got it!

Will the organizers also demand we have a day without social services, education, health benefits and a day without filling our jails? Will we have a day of ordering our food to someone that speaks English? I wonder if they will then demand a “Day Back to Mexico” to really teach us a lesson. It is completely ungrateful for a people to demand respect from a culture that has sheltered, employed and educated them. All we get from the world is jealously and envy. Stop whining and go build your own country and stop crossing the desert into ours.

Demand respect from Mexican President Fox and fight for a nation worth staying in. You are poor because of Mexico not the United States. You have hope and opportunity because of America, and you are a guest in our home, EVEN THOUGH YOU WERE NOT INVITED.

You wish to leave the oppressive government of Mexico and try to import their corrupt culture to America! Sorry we would rather have a “Day without a Mexican” than a “Country like Mexico.” If you are proud of Mexico do not demand Spanish in our classroom demand a bus ticket to Mexico. Do not celebrate Cinco de Mayo in Las Angeles, celebrate it in Mexico City.

Mexico was colonized by the Europeans just like America. The only difference is that they spoke Spanish and English was spoken in America. The Europeans still dominate the Mexican Culture, language and jobs. That is why the “Indians” that are running across the border, speak Spanish and not Aztec or Mayan languages. As I have said many times, there are no “Mexicans” crossing the Border illegally. Mexicans are crossing at the Border at the checkpoints to work or visit as tourist. People you see crossing the Borders illegally are the “Indians” of Mexico being discriminated against by the Europeans dominating the Mexican culture.

If it is dignity you want, earn it. Do not demonstrate in Dallas, march in Tijuana, do not ask for equal rights from Washington DC, return to Mexico and demand it from Mexico City. You are being forced out of you country by a government that has always hated you. You want to take the Southwest United States back for the Aztecs? Great, start with Mexico. The Spaniards took it from the Indians and now their Europeans descendants are forcing them to march across the Desert to pick crops in America. Where is your anger? Where is your courage? Do not march and protest here where it is free, protest where the real problems are and the real fight exist?

America became a great country in part of how we faced discrimination. Indians, Black folks and their European counterparts finally had to face with the problem. It took us a long time and it was very difficult and the process made us great. Black Americans tried escaping to other countries instead of fighting for dignity here. It did not work for us and it will not work for the oppressed Indians of Mexico. America is great because America has faced great challenges. You want a “Day without a Mexican?” Try having a Day without and America!” God Bless America!

I live in Dallas, am a hard-core conservative, but I have a little different take on the situation.
First off, I want us to build a double fence from San Diego to the mouth of the Rio Grande and patrol it with soldiers, helicopters, and unmanned spy planes.

However, I have done church work with some who were illegal immigrants, I have seen the conditions of the poor in Ciudad Juarez, and I have to empathize with them. They have no hope over there. If I ask myself what I would do if I lived in such grinding poverty and couldn’t feed my family, I have to say that I would get to the US as quickly as I could.
I’m against blanket amnesty, but once the borders are closed I think that something can be done to assimilate the illegal immigrants into society and make English fluency compulsory in order to gain citizenship. Those who can’t do that should be shipped back down to Mexico where they apply for immigration legally.

You know, as soon as the Democrat party feels comfortable with Hispanics as a reliable voting bloc, they'll forget blacks. Sorry folks, you're too small a voting group, move over for the new group to pander and lie to.

And the way to deal with illegal immigration is to enforce the law. Period. If the laws in place were being enforced, if illegal aliens were deported, if businesses hiring illegals were fined, then the problem would be dealt with. It would take a few years and it would cost a lot of money, but less than it would to not do what we need to. It would cause prices to go up in some areas, but it would also cause there to be less a burden on hospitals, prisons, and welfare programs.

That's the answer. It's not easy and it would take a while to take effect, it would be tough at first and seem negative for a few years. And it won't be done.

One "ignorant" person just stated while interviewd at a Phoenix protest:

QUOTE

"If so many people are breaking the law, then maybe that means it needs to be changed"...

Hmm, I am sure pedophiles, drug dealers, bigamist, murderers, thieves, and every other law breaker will agree with you...

Anarchy...Here we come.

Is anyone taking notes for the "Decline and Fall of the United States of America"? Anyone, Anyone??

>>How can a Mexican or Guatamalan landing on our shores across the Rio Grande be considered a “felon” while a Cuban can do the same thing on the Florida coast and be considered a citizen?>>

Maybe because people from Mexico and Guatemala aren't getting thrown in prison or executed, but people from Cuba are?

>>How come we aren’t discussing illegal Irish or Eastern European immigrants?>>

Numbers and language. Who knew there were Irish illegals?!!! How would you know? Inability to speak English is kind of like a scarlet letter, don't you think? I agree that they should be given the very same status as any other illegal, but again...who knew!! How many do you estimate there are? (Irish and EE illegals)

>>Today I am changing my status from registered Republican to Independent.>>

I'm not ready to go there, but I _did_ send my congressman (no point sending anything to my Senators - Boxer and Feinstein) and tell him that if Congress passes amnesty, the only Republican I'll vote for in the next election is Tancredo.

>>We don’t have to kick them out. We can just declare them felons with commuted sentences. That way they can be officially and permanently second class ‘citizens’ with no rights to bear arms or vote. Since they don’t think it’s worth it to be citizens the legal and proper way, we should oblige them that - and nothing more.>>

Hey! I _like_ that...can I borrow it? Personally, I'm also in favor of unloading all illegals from our prisons and paying Mexico to imprison them. It'd be cheaper, and I suspect they'd like it less. Course we'd have to do inspections to make sure they stayed in prison for as long as we were paying, but that would still be cheaper than what we pay now...!

>>Now these two reprobates are heros of the labor movement, and public schools honor them with holidays in their name.>>

We don't really teach history. Most of our teachers aren't old enough to remember what actually happened. As a result, the two reprobates have been reconstructed as heroes, so what they we honor is an ideal attached to an historical name rather than the real people themselves. Does it bother me? Yes. Does it surprise me...no. Just try to convince people that George didn't really cut down that cherry tree...!

Cobra, last time I looked, "Mexican" and "Guatemalan" and "Cuban" were nationalities, each containing people of several races.

Not everything is about race. It really isn't.

Your question has an answer, La Shawn:
"We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, and are endowed by their Creator with the unalienable rights to Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness."

Neither the USA, nor Mexico, the EU, nor any country I know of fulfills this ideal of treating human beings equal: all states treat citizen humans different than non-citizen humans.

But it's still discrimination.

Yes, the wall should be built. Yes, the very very poor illegal immigrants violated some US laws; like your commenters who have been driving ABOVE the speed limit. (Many of the illegals also drive illegally, and even drink and drive illegally -- just like other Americans.)

If all laws against illegal immigration were abolished, making them legal, would the problems go away? Some would, but the illegality is not the main issue.

Money is. And culture -- too many don't speak English.

I suggest all legal immigrants PAY some $20 000 to come to America; and illegal immigrants pay twice that. See my Billion Dollar Solution to Immigration

Please continue complaining about the culture changes, but always remember that neither blacks, nor women, were treated as equal human beings when the great Declaration of Independence was written.

And I fully agree that law-breaking is an issue that must be dealt with; yet more strongly agree that it is the cultural issues which provide the greatest danger to the USA.

>>>"Wait a minute - I thought that you and the folks who read your blog were Bush-controlled warmongering Neanderthal neocon capitalist zombies. The Far Left thinks so, so it must be true, right? Your blog makes it sound that you (gasp!) think for yourself. Horrors!"

Exactly who is--'the Far Left" in your opinion? And why aren't the same standards being applied across the board as far as "illegal immigration" is concerned? How can a Mexican or Guatamalan landing on our shores across the Rio Grande be considered a "felon" while a Cuban can do the same thing on the Florida coast and be considered a citizen? How come we aren't discussing illegal Irish or Eastern European immigrants? Or Asians?

Y'all know the REAL answer. ;)

I see on Michelle's site that some of the protesters are now citing Che Guevara, and I'm sure Caesar Chavez is in there somewhere. That's distressing since neither of those thugs were men of peace. Unfortunately kids aren't taught the truth in public schools. Both those men advocated, engaged in violence, and demanded immediate overthrow of the Government.

Whenever you start adding Che and Caesar Chavez to the mix.....I predict these protests will turn violent.
