I'm not 100% on board with the idea that Mexico and the U.S. are integrating.

If that were really the case, I'd be down there right now, scouting beachfront real estate--without fear of some corrupt government official trying to seize my property, or burning the place down if the courts rule against him.

I would have no problems moving my family--or in my case, my pets--down there, because I'd have no fear of the horribly substandard health care I might incur. And if it's bad for humans, imagine veterenary care!

And lastly....I'D BE ABLE TO DRINK THE FREAKIN' WATER!!!

Erbo is right about who will suffer from unresticted illegal immigration.

So I propose we end the suffering and have unresticted (well very few restrictions) legal immigration.

America and Mexico are integrating. It will not be easy. It will be painful. It will be done.

Travel is too easy and the economic differentials are too great.

Say. I thought Republicans understood economics. Supply curves (hungry - will work cheap) demand curves (lower priced labor means profit or even staying in business against Chinese imports etc.)

Well given you do not understand the absolute strength of economics (look at Drug Prohibition or Labor Prohibition ) it is no wonder you propose "solutions" that will either not work or make things worse.

Suppose "Immigration Reform" is equivalent to "Smoot-Hawley". Is it worth wrecking the American Economy to get rid of the illegals?

I hope so. Because you may soon get your wish.

Please go to La Voz de Aztlan and read what MEXICO has in store for the United States IF another Amnesty is passed. They have planned a long time to take back the states we won in the war and they said this time it would be by immigration. This is aided and abetted by that economic parasite Fox. Also, go to http://www.immigrationwatchdog.com/media/aztlan_high.wmv and see what Jose Angel Gutierrez, Professor at the University of Texas and founder of LaRaza has to say. There is hate in his voice as he says "THIS IS OUR LAND NOT THEIRS AND WE ARE HERE TO TAKE IT BACK." There is an article that says he has also said "If worst comes to worst we have got to KILL the GRINGOS." That is WAR talk! There was a site at www.wehategringos.com that showed the illegal aliens marching carrying Mexican flags and ugly signs with the four letter F word directed to us GRINGOS. The ONLY REASON they stopped in this last march was because Lulac and LaRaza told them it was hurting their CAUSE. Their HEART has NOT changed! They have been plannng these marches since Congressman Joe Baca met with them on January 12 and told them about our pending legislation on amnesty and how it would affect them. To me, BACA is a TRAITOR to this nation. The Bible says 'A house divided against itself cannot stand and nation is FORMING within OUR nation and a nation cannot stand division either. If Germnay or another nation came over here marching and DEMANDING their RIGHTS I feel sure ALL our SENATORS would be yelling WAR! This is NO DIFFERENT. We are IN WAR with Mexico. TJ Bonner, president of the Border Patrol agency said "It's clear we are dealing with a large number of incursions by bona-fide MILITARY units" This is WAR for MILITARY from another nation to enter our soil for illegal purposes. there should be NO welfare, No free schooling, NO food stamps, NO college tuition, No reduced housing, NO MEDICARE, NO ANCHOR BABIES for these GATE-CRASHERS and SOME of the BORDER problems would CEASE!

It's not law MAKERS that are the problem--we already have immigration laws on the books.

It's law ENFORCEMENT.

Politicians that get all the face time are in the legislative branch. Who's in the executive branch? Why aren't we seeing them? Why aren't they being hounded? Constantly? How come they live their lives in relative peace while the rest of us bear the emotional burden of how we're going to raise families in a land where nobody wants to do the right thing anymore because they're afraid they'll look mean, and people won't like them?

Every time I read blogs or news about the immigration, my mind immediately goes to the following thoughts which are actually 2 issues: illegals receiving free medical care and legal immigrant's (consider making all the illegals legal?) elderly parents receiving benefits without ever having paid a dime into our systems.

Working in the medical field, I see a lot of "free" care going to these people. However, I also see a lot of Medicaid funds being spent on non-speaking individuals, who have come to the U.S. because their "children" are here - legally! These legal immigrants bring their elderly parents here, who have no assets. They apply for Medicaid, get it, and are eating up resources. These elderly individuals did not grow up here, work here, or pay into any programs to deserve these services. I know of a middle-Eastern medical physician whose parent is now here and receives Medicaid benefits. Many middle-Eastern immigrants receiving Medicaid have renal disease and are getting all of their dialysis services - for free! One nursing student took care of an illegal immigrant in ICU seizing and in a coma from an unknown "bacterial" infection. This 18-year-old Mexican came out of his comma, got up, and left the hospital - becoming untraceable. Many Mexicans have TB and are bringing this into our country. If you research school systems with large numbers of Mexican students and check for incidents of TB, the incidents are increasing in numbers.

If we give amnesty and legal status to those protesting, the government had better prepare for even more influx - the rest of their families. What will politicians do when what we middle-class Americans pay in taxes is not enough to take care of these people?

Wake up America. If we lose this fight and the politicians give these illegals legal rights, then I surely hope the rules stipulate that they can NEVER bring the rest of their families here nor EVER receive ANY social benefits.

Other countries will not allow anyone to live in their country without first showing and verifying that they will not drain or use any of their social programs or health benefits. America must follow this trend.

La Shawn

Ditto on everything. Unfortunately, the Dept. of Homeland Security does not have the resources or will to deport anyone, much less all.

But look who is joining in with the illegals -

The group who has basically ignored the "rule of law" so loudly shouted from the Federal rooftop:

The group who have been treated with "kid gloves" by those fearing to "offend" anyone.

The group who have NOT been prosecuted for Hate Crimes when THEY target others.

The group who believe THEY are "above the rule of law".

My 80 year old mother has been very vocal about the illegal immigration issue. She could not understand how millions have been allowed to cross the border while black Haitians come in boats and are sent back. Yes its a race thing with her. My mom wants what she views as mostly Mexican sent back. Anybody especially terrorists can cross the border.

My Mom has been a democrat all her voting life. The only voting exception is Arlen Spector. My Mom
is now identifying with those on the right and the house republicans. She agrees with Michelle Malkin and Ann Coulter. Up until now, she always thought Coulter was a nut case.

<i>"In all seriousness, how are you going to do this?

You have a blog history that many Blacks would find “troubling” and probably wouldn’t listen to a word you say."</i>

This is the kind of thinking that signals a green light for math teachers to use "Condi Rice with a watermelon" math problems in class and feel like they're not doing anything wrong.

And, to be clear, I'm against illegal immigration, against the media appointed "leaders" backing amnesty, and I think that Americans, including Blacks, will work jobs "that even Blacks don't work" if the pay were worth it.

It is about time that my fellow Americans have gotten angry over this issue. As a Mexican-American whose family has been in this country for about 100 years, I can tell you that we have been angry for years. "We" were the first to feel the effects of cheap illegal or "guest worker" labor. I come from a former migrant family. My Dad at 83 still talks about how little he earned picking cotton in Arizona because the braceros would work for cheaper. Eventually we settled in Idaho because my parents wanted better for their children. My parents knew that education was our salvation and sent us (9 kids) to a parochial school instead of public school. My parents were proud people and wouldn't accept free tuition. We instead hoed beets during the summer to pay our way. We watched as local farmers would hire illegals to work for less. Non-Hispanics were perplexed why we complained about this situation. In time we learned that our complaints fell on deaf ears. Even today I keep my opinions to myself. Though the race card can't be used against me, the "sell-out" card is the next alternative. You would be surprised by how many Hispanics are opposed to illegal immigration. In fact, it was none other than Cesar Chavez that bitterly opposed the use of illegal laborers in his battle to secure fair wages and humane working conditions for migrant workers. Please do not think that all Hispanics support illegal immigration - We Do Not!!!

My father is Jamaican. He came to the country in the 50s. With today's immigration standards, he wouldn't be let in because his family is poor.

The legal immigrants who make it to the this country, are mainly of means and/or educated. My father had a high school education.

Greater than 95% of the "Black" immigrants that I know, come from families of means and are well educated.

So, I disagree with this: <em>But with the Civil Rights movement in the 1960s came a liberalization of our immigration policy. Important factors like national origin and marketable skills were “dumbed down.” We still had rules, but lawmakers apparently failed to realize that with lax standards, people would take advantage. Why they didn’t anticipate the inevitable influx of illegal immigration caused by permissive and lax policies is beyond me.</em>

The rules were changed in the past 10-15 years to favor means and education.

<em>At every opportunity, I will play the race card until black Americans understand what’s going on and how offensive it is that foreign invaders are co-opting our cause for their crimes.</em>

In all seriousness, how are you going to do this?

You have a blog history that many Blacks would find "troubling" and probably wouldn't listen to a word you say.

In this post, you wrote: <strong><em>In a way, this may be good for black Americans used to a fat entitlement system catering to their every whim</em></strong>

Now, this is demonstratable to be false but it makes for a good copy. (When you "take it there" and I disagree, it's generally facts that I disagree with. For that reason, you've labeled me a liberal).

In your I.Q. series, you wrote that, as a group, Blacks have a lower I.Q. than whites. If you believe in "g", which you said you did, unless I misread, that would be true. Given your stance, it would be easy to say that you think that Blacks are genetically inferior in mental abilities. That's what the I.Q. measures, right?

In your posts about affirmative action, you say that you believe it is discrimination. That's fine. But you say and imply that Blacks are lazy. Or am I just inferring it? If so, if I do, others likey do as well.

So, why should a Black person care what you say on the matter?

Hello? "Illegal" aliens are not standing in line. They deserve "oriental" respect. Let me clarify: Many oriental countries see a foreigner who is (for instance) hit and injured by a local citizen as the core problem. By definition, if the foreigner were where he was supposed to be (i.e. at home) he would not have been there to be hit!!! Ergo, it is his fault for being where he shouldn't be.

We now face the situation of harassing immigrants who play by the rules while throwing in the towel who over those who pushed their way past the laws.

What next? Why not send a bus to poor a village in Mexico (or a plane to Dafur) and deliver those who want to escape their poverty to various 7-11's across the US? Why should we insist that they pay so much and risk their lives to get here?

Why not require every American citizen with a spare couch to house a foreign national who would like to live in the United States? How many empty couches does John Kerry or Michael Moore have? Or you!

What are our standards, people? Every "first world" country has an underground economy and these people only feed it (see: suek's comments above). High taxes on those who cooperate with the tax code only encourages further non compliance.

As Shakespeare so aptly put it: "Oh, what a tangled web we weave, when we practice to deceive." Our "illegal" immigrant response is a tissue of lies and it is sending us into the whirlpool of the flushing toilet.

It would seem simple that illegal immigrants would start by showing respect to the flag that they claim to honor.

It's a slap in the face to everyone who comes here legally, like Erbo said. There are several immigrants in my family -- all here legally. My sister-in-law had to wait until almost a year after she married my brother before she could join him here in the same country! What a fun way to start a marriage. But she did it.

A co-worker of mine is here legally from India. He's a great person. But he's been here 5 years, with no green card, which means he basically can't change jobs (he's legal at his current job, but would need a special sponsor to change jobs). He works as a contractor for a company that KNOWS he can't change jobs. He'll never get a raise, a vacation, health care, or anything else from that company, I'm sure. They know they don't have to.

But maybe 11 million other people will become legal in an instant and leap frog past him? Screw that.
