in Me, Me, Me, Pictures

Happy BirthdayMonday, May 8: Thanks so much for the birthday wishes! I’ll update this blog sometime today. What shall I blog about? Illegal immigration? The drug-addicted and alcoholic Patrick Kennedy? Yeah, I’ll tell you my “Kennedy story.”
———————————————————–

Full of flaws, yet so divine,
La Shawn Barber is…39!
Lordy, lordy…she’s almost 40!!!

Important before-I-turn-40 goal: A six-figure book deal. OK, five. Four? :?

Things to do, people see. No workie for me! See you on Monday. Or Tuesday. :D

Oh, wait, before I go…have you read Dr. Shelby Steele’s Opinion Journal piece, White Guilt and the Western Past? Overall, I agree, but I have a point or two of contention. Guess what they are. If you like that op-ed, you’ll like this one.

I appeared on a panel last year with Steele (author of newly-released White Guilt) and actor Joseph C. Phillips (author of newly-released He Talk Like A White Boy) as a last-minute replacement. It was awesome, for lack of a better word at the moment. If inclined, read about the discussion. Bye!

Peterson and Steele
(Jesse L. Peterson, me, and Dr. Shelby Steele)

Happy Birthday – Bonne Anniversaire :)

Dan Phillips 05.05.06 at 9:21 am

Oh, LaShawn — you’re a mere child! A child!

Happy birthday, sister. You’ve had a God-blessed, accomplished life. That’s got to give you the happies, and the gratefuls.

Frank Zavisca 05.05.06 at 9:22 am

Happy Birthday:

39 is a great age because you never have to get any older.

Scott Wickham 05.05.06 at 9:33 am

You should write book and and self publish.

You have the marketing chops to make it work.

Montie Burchett 05.05.06 at 9:34 am

Happy Birthday La Shawn :-) I watched the whole conference you referenced and I think you fit right in with the other members of the panel at least on par with Dr. Steele as a truly great thinker (as many of your readers would agree).

Pauli 05.05.06 at 9:35 am

You, you, you go girl! Happy Birthday, LaShawn… you’re older than me, but not by much!! :)

Shade 05.05.06 at 9:36 am

Well, Lashawn is a member of the 1967 crew. I’m a part of that crew though my 39th birthday is a couple of months from now. Yea, like you, I was at an HBU during SKOOL DAZE. Happy birthday.

Jewels 05.05.06 at 9:45 am

Hippo Birdie 2 Ewe, La Shawn!

Steele’s article is… interesting. I also agree for the most part. I’d be interested to read what you thought about it.

Enjoy your weekend! (don’t you know, B-Days that occur on a Friday last at least till Sunday!)

TM 05.05.06 at 9:50 am

Congratulations birthday girl! Believe it or not, today is my birthday too. What are the odds of that?*

I hope you have a wonderful birthday.

*The odds are one in three hundred sixty five.

Erbo 05.05.06 at 12:02 pm

Happy birthday to both you, LaShawn, and to my wife! (That would be “Pamela,” up in comment #16.) Long may you continue to speak truth to counter the liberal lies!

Incidentally, I saw Steele’s appearance on Hannity & Colmes yesterday, and I figured you probably liked him…good to see a confirmation.

Bill 05.05.06 at 12:40 pm

Happy birthday Lashawn. Hope you have many more.

Sissy Willis 05.05.06 at 12:49 pm

You’re just a baby. Happy Birthday! :)

mj 05.05.06 at 12:51 pm

La Shawn–you’re too successful to self-publish. You’ll get a book deal, which will lead to others. Have a great birthday! I’m sure I’m not the only one who’s glad and appreciative that you’re alive!

Joe L. 05.05.06 at 12:53 pm

Happy Birthday!!! This is the first time I have commented on your blog. I read it daily and have benefited greatly from your insights. Keep up the fine work!

In Christ Alone,
Joe

Doug 05.05.06 at 1:13 pm

Happy Birthday, La Shawn! Many Happy More! I caught Dr. Steele on the H&C show last night-thanks for linking to the article-I hope he sells a ton of books.

Doug 05.05.06 at 1:22 pm

Dr. Steele writes, “Possibly white guilt’s worst effect is that it does not permit whites–and nonwhites–to appreciate something extraordinary: the fact that whites in America, and even elsewhere in the West, have achieved a truly remarkable moral transformation. One is forbidden to speak thus, but it is simply true. There are no serious advocates of white supremacy in America today, because whites see this idea as morally repugnant. If there is still the odd white bigot out there surviving past his time, there are millions of whites who only feel goodwill toward minorities.”
I want to stand up and cheer! Thank you to Dr. Steele for stating with clarity what I feel. Who holds back America from moving forward to a totally integrated society? The racists of all colors who do not want that to happen. As Dr. Steele points out-those racists are in the minority-most whites have undergone that moral transformation.

Lisa Gilliam 05.05.06 at 1:30 pm

Happy B-day,LaShawn!have a good day!also,I agree with you about Shelby Steele’s column on how the left’s collective guilt is destroying our country! The knuckle dragging bleeding hearts in the Moussoui trial are indicative and a symptom of this dangerous and poisonous thinking!

Patrick 05.05.06 at 1:45 pm

Hey LaShawn — happy birthday to my sister in Christ!

Look forward to reading your first book!

Kathleen 05.05.06 at 2:15 pm

Otanjyoubi omedetou gozaimasu, as my Japanese friends say, or Happy Birthday!! in English. God bless a great blogger and great American. May God give you a wonderful day/weekend, and I hope He will give you the opportunity someday to get that book out there. I’ll be right in line to read it!

Lornkanaga 05.05.06 at 2:27 pm

Happy Birthday La Shawn! Thirty was the hard one for me–40 was a breaze, so have no fear because all you have to do is plan for the party. A wize woman told me I should plan on partying for a month; I partied for two months (hehehe).

Carole 05.05.06 at 3:22 pm

Just wanted to say Happy Birthday. Wish I could be 39 — again. Enjoy your day.

Vida 05.05.06 at 5:31 pm

Happy Birthday! I’m mostly a lurker, but I figure if I’m going to write on any day, it should be on your birthday. I’ve been reading your blog for about a year now, and I love it. Keep it up.

Kristi 05.05.06 at 5:33 pm

Happy Birthday, La Shawn! You’ve led a blessed life and you inspire me. I hope I’m as awesome as you when I turn 39.

PBlogger 05.05.06 at 5:40 pm

You’re still a youngen… :)

March Hare 05.05.06 at 6:36 pm

Happy Birthday, LaShawn!

“The best is yet to come,
The last for which the first was made!”

Can’t remember which poet wrote that, but, while 39 was good, 50 is better! ;)

Renee 05.05.06 at 7:57 pm

Happy Birthday La Shawn!!!

Florian Guerrero 05.05.06 at 8:43 pm

Happy 39th La Shawn! May God continue to richly bless you.

Happy Birthday LaShawn!! :)

James Newman 05.06.06 at 12:31 pm

Happy Birthday La Shawn!!!

SickAndTired 05.06.06 at 12:59 pm

When I was a child I thought b’days were special. Then I became a grown-up and discovered and mine was shared by some 15 million others, now even more. That makes them even more special, being shared by so many.

So La Shawn, you and the roughly 16 1/2 million others who share this day have a very happy birthday. BTW, only some 225 thousand of them are turning 39.

Fausta 05.06.06 at 1:44 pm

Happy birthday!!

Mwalimu Daudi 05.06.06 at 5:36 pm

Here is wishing you a Happy Birthday!

DagneyT 05.06.06 at 6:23 pm

Happy Birthday, Dear Lady! You’ve got so much to look forward to, after 40…you’re not there yet! Most things get better, but eyesight and weight control are not on that list! ;-)

DagneyT 05.06.06 at 6:32 pm

I just realized that I should also have wished you Feliz Cinco de Mayo! I have a pal in New Mexico who is 1/2 native American and 1/2 Mexicana, who told me when she was growing up (her birthday is on May 5th) that she felt like she must be someone really special, as there were parties everywhere on her birthday! She has NO self-realization or inferiority issues whatsoever! [Happy Birthday to you, too, Kyle!] In our part of the country, it’s party-time on May 5th. (It celebrates the conquest of the French by a Texas born general of Mexico’s army…now you of another French war loss…chuckle chuckle!)

Finn 05.06.06 at 11:51 pm

Happy Birthday La Shawn. It is good to see you having such success, and forging your own independent path. A true inspiration.

Any exciting plans on the personal front? (Uhm, have you found a potential husband/boyfriend yet?)

Okay that’s nosy, ignore that.

Barb 05.07.06 at 1:41 am

Late Birthday wishes, La Shawn! You share my husband’s brother’s birthday, BUT, he was 67! :)

By the way, I’m reviewing Joseph Phillips’ new book, ‘He Talk Like A White Boy’. Looks like it’s going to be great!

T. Jack 05.07.06 at 5:58 am

Happy B-Day!! Though we DEFINITELY disagree on most subjects, I do still check in from time to time to see what you have to say,……..Enjoy your day, and may you have many more!!;)…..ps…All the stuff you said about illegals…..and you being born on Cinco de Mayo! Thanks for the chuckle……

Dan Paden 05.07.06 at 7:20 am

I hope that you had a very happy birthday indeed.

Andy 05.07.06 at 4:22 pm

:) Happy Belated Birthday!!! :)
And may the Lord continue to use you to his glory.

Ciao

Happy Birthday La Shawn and many many more

If Kennedy was an average citizen or one of the downtrodden he and his rich, elitist family claims to work for, then he would have gotten a breathilizer test and whatever else they do when they pull wasted people over who crash into cement.

creative dude 05.08.06 at 10:32 am

Wish all the best, for the best.

Tom Bosee 05.09.06 at 8:38 am

Happy Birthday La Shawn, when asked “when were you born?”, just say “I don’t remember; I was just a little baby!” (Said by Chico Marx in “Duck Soup”)

Sister Toldjah 05.09.06 at 11:50 am

Belated Bday wishes, La Shawn!

Greg Miller 05.09.06 at 3:06 pm

La Shawn, I cant believe I actually share the same birth day and year with my favorite blogger! I first contacted you a few years ago when I found your blog through a link from a townhall.com article I think. Anyways, I’ve bookmarked you ever since and you’ve been with me even in Iraq! I retired on our birthday last Friday and say to you, continue to broadcast your pirate signal into the blogosphere waking us out of the “matrix” of years of liberal indoctrination! You truly are my Morpheus!

La Shawn 05.09.06 at 3:10 pm

Thanks for writing, Greg. I also got your recent e-mail. It’s an honor to have been in Iraq with you. ;)

Happy Belated Birthday!
