violenceUpdate: Good news about black folks! The man’s a hero. That was a totally selfless act.
————————————————–

Warning: Rant below.

This post is categorized under “Comedy” not because violence is a laughing matter. I just find it humorous that so-called civil rights groups and various race hustling camera-hogs are transparently absent and deafeningly silent about hispanic-on-black crime in California.

Reading yet another story about hispanic-on-black gang violence (free reg. req.), I thought about the stunning lack of blanket news coverage on network or cable TV or a “national debate.” An excerpt:

Two weeks ago, Lovett’s 14-year-old daughter, Cheryl Green, was standing with a group of friends on Harvard Boulevard, just south of 206th Street, when two men approached them in broad daylight. Without saying a word, one suspect pulled a gun and opened fire, killing Green and wounding three others, witnesses and police said.

Ernesto Alcarez, 20, was later arrested and charged with first-degree murder and a hate crime because the Dec. 15 shooting is believed to have been racially motivated. The other suspect, Jonathan Fajardo, 18, is still at large. Both are members of the 204th Street gang, authorities say.

Such a brazen act of violence has highlighted the racial tensions that have held this working-class neighborhood in a state of fear for years, residents and city officials said.

Where are the “African American” summits and protests and loud calls for an end to the violence? As I wrote yesterday in “Selective Outrage Over Black Crime Victims,” such protesting and shouting is not profitable or satisfying. Rage against perceived slights by whites commands a lot more time and energy in the black community.

tale of two foolsFor instance, who could ever forget (or be allowed to forget) when comedian Michael Richards called a couple of black men niggers during his routine? Press conferences, and demands for money and self-flagellation were daily fare. But hispanics killing blacks, and for the dumbest shi*, barely registers on the outrage scale.

It certainly didn’t help matters that Richards groveled and prostrated himself before a sleazy and unworthy caricature of a man like Jesse Jackson. The whole lot of them are idiots, including anyone who thinks being called a nigger by a white man during a comedy routine is worse than being killed by a freaking hispanic gang thug because you wandered into his “turf.”

Ah, but the difference is that Richards has money; hispanic ignorant gang thugs don’t. As a white liberal type, Richards carries the guilt of phantom racism. Hispanic gang members couldn’t give a rat’s a** about your slave of a great-great-great-great grandfather, and neither do you. It’s all about profit and penance.

And people say I hate black people? :?

Every year, taxpayers dump millions of dollars down the toilet on so-called gang violence reduction programs. Without addressing the real issues — weak family structures, low character, spiritual vacuity– it’s a waste of hard-earned money and precious time.

Forget about government programs. Get back to family values. Sorry to sound so simple for you government-is-savior-white-man-is-racist types reading this blog. Communities need to look to themselves — and in the mirror — if social pathologies like gangs are going to be fixed.

illegal idiotAnd blacks ought to come out strong against illegal “immigration.” It is not in the best interest of black Americans, especially lower income black Americans, for this nation to allow illegal aliens to pour over the border like water. Depressed wages, discrimination, overburdened social services, law enforcement that treats people unequally, disrespect for our laws and our way of life, gang violence — blacks in America should be the least likely group to “embrace” the criminal alien.

If you, black reader, are dreaming of some dumb “coalition” with our “brown brothers” to fight the “white power structure,” you’re as dim-witted as white people say you are.

***
Side note: Isn’t it almost pleasingly ironic that hate crime laws are backfiring on white liberals? Designed to punish the thoughts of heterosexual, traditional-minded white men, hate crime laws as applied to latino animal thugs killing black people (who cares about “hispanic hate?”) are ineffective, and they defeat the purpose of punishing “guilty” whites.
***

In summary, a white man calling a black man a nigger in a club garnered more attention than routine gang-murders of blacks in LA. The alleged gang-rape of a black stripper and prostitute captured the jaded minds of white liberals and their black lackeys all over the globe and caused so-called black academics to reveal how intellectually hollow and stultifying comical they really are. Yet, there will be no joint “Group of 88″ statement decrying the murders of decent black folks by latino gangs in LA.

Community “leaders,” national race-baiting, tax-exempt groups, grassroots folks, where the heck are you???

  1. You won’t see JJ anywhere until there is some publicity about this. As soon as the lights come on on the cameras - poof - as if by magic, there’s JJ.

I don’t really think anybody gives a good s**t anymore about inner L.A. The blacks and hispanics are turning it into the same kind of cesspool that either Africa or Mexico have been for decades. They (hispanics) want to come here because there’s money here. They’ve already driven out business and wealth in their home countries.

  3. LaShawn,

In the neighborhood of Roxbury in Boston, MA, this past year has seen a surge in black-on-black violence. There are protests, but they are on the streets of Roxbury, not Beacon Hill. The people in this neighborhoods and others like it across the country know only they can solve this very serious problem. News cameras not only generate heat, but are attracted to it. No one generates more heat than Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, et al. So, that’s what people see on CNN and the like. Rational people realize there are real people, black people, working very hard without recognition or acclaim to save our children. I get frustrated when I read a post like yours because it seems like you have no solidarity with the people who are the victims here. It appears the point of this type of article is to skewer the race hustlers and not call attention to the fact that we have a real crisis on our hands and, at some point, it’s going to be everyone’s problem. My last point…As far as the Michael Richards incident, I’m sorry, but if I’m sitting in a comedy club that I paid admission to sit in and was called a nigger, I would beat somebody’s ass. You can call that a stereotype or uncivilized behavior, but absence of manners is also uncivilized.

  4. I love the old Yogi Berra line: “You can observe a lot by just looking.”

We have significant numbers of people (black, white, Hispanic, and who knows what) who live in virtual cess pools. (Hint: if the cops accompany the emergency service into the neighborhood, it is a virtual cess pool.) I applaud anyone who rides by on his white horse and rescues a soul or two from the muck and mire of their existence. But, honestly, the laws in this country have so escaped the bounds of common sense that anyone who tries to take one on these challenges is risking his own shirt.

The concept of a “hate crime” is stupid from the get go. Suppose somebody drags my son behind a pick up and rips him to little dead pieces. Why does it matter who was what race, who had what sexual preferences or who was the member of which gang?

Have we really gotten so soft that we have to reserve harsh treatment only for criminals who “went a step too far” in the commission of a felony?

I have seen enough episodes of Cops and the documentaries on how some inmates have to be handled in prison to understand that a certain number of people “just ain’t right.”

What we are supposed to do “for” them is a mystery to me. But what we need to do “with” them is not. Prisons may well be an extension of Animal Kingdom, but at least those in them are not menacing the neighborhoods.

Over the decades of teaching, I have had lots and lots of former students who have gone to prison. Of the two dozen or so who committed murder or were murdered, I can not think of one that came as a shock.

And, frankly, nearly everyone around those birds knew it was coming as well.

I support LaShawn’s idea of calling this comedy: it is part of the human comedy that leads us to turn a blind eye to common sense and to weep and wail when the train runs over the drunk who fell asleep on the railroad tracks. Unfortunately, we have a society that believes that if it can just get some more of my money, great things will happen with a new government program. Railroads can be equipped with sleeping drunk ejecting tracks. Gang members can be sent to college where they will learn to help cure drug addiction. And on and on and on.

Of course, the innocent children are victims. But in large part, they are victimized by those most responsible for their healthy development. There are dozens of wonderful community resources that are ready, willing and able to reach out and help and many people have taken advantage of the help and turned their lives around. But the fact is, there are also many people who do not have the soul to seek a higher level of personal existence.

  5. Here’s the deal. The Hispanic “collective” LOVES the black “collective” though in a purely abstract “collective sense” which has little basis in what the members of the collective actually do.But hey, we are ALL about what people say, rather than what they do. Meanwhile, there is no “white collective” so whites are held to a collective account based upon the past, regardless of what happens today. The absurdity of it all is beyond belief.

  7. Lashawn,
Here in the South, the Hispanics are more likely to be the victims of Black robberies. Blacks here think all Hispanics carry lots of cash, since they are afraid to open bank accounts. Hispanics also are afraid to report the robberies. It was a simple mugging until recently when Blacks have started home invasions of Hispanic flop houses. It is getting pretty ugly, that’s why I think the Hispanic gangs have started selling protection and fighting back.

  8. Lashawn,

I’ve been reading your blog off and on for the past 4 months or so. As an African-American, I think your site is quite interesting.

During the course of my observations, I’ve noticed at least one common thread - I’ve never seen you post one positive blog about black people. Ever.

You’re either 1) railing against the old civil rights establishment, 2) showing us that black folks kill more white people than vice versa, or 3) arguing that black folks want to lower admissions standards in order to attend college, etc.

The only posts I think you can argue are positive are those in which you argue that Affirmative Action is not needed, as African Americans do not need it any longer. But even that positive spin would be a stretch, as your tone is so dismissive of a point of view/policy that is endorsed by several black Republicans (e.g. Colin Powell) and of which several black conservatives have benefitted (e.g. Clarence Thomas).

(Oh yeah I forgot - I do remember in a previous post that you mentioned that you thought black folks were genetically better athletes than whites. Of course, you left us to wonder whether whites are genetically smarter than blacks. Although one would consider this a backhanded compliment, I’ll take anything I can get from you, Mrs. Barber. :-) )

But, seriously, can you - or anyone else on this blog - list any post within the past 4 months - other than articles regarding AA - where you’ve spoken positively about African Americans?

(I hope you don’t eliminate most post because I’ve been somewhat critical of you. Despite my tone, I do enjoy reading your blog. :-) )

  9. As a black man, I’m willing to join with anyone, (black white and otherwise) who GENIUNELY care about Black on Black crimes.

I’m also willing to add my signature to any document drafted by anyone who GENIUNELY protests Black on Black crime.

In the past, I have been absent from to many of the night patrols in urban cities, and the many marches of community members, who, OUTRAGED and BEREAVED over the slayings in black communities, marched in protest without the benefit of Major Media. Many of the protest which have been held right here in DC.

  10. I grew up in Roxbury in the 1970s and 1980s along with my three brothers. Not one of us has been in jail or a dropout. And, there are more like us than not. But, we will never hear about that. What we will hear is black conservatives trying to get “G.O.P. street cred” by pretending that all is lost. We are here, raising our children with the right (not “white”) values. The values that are necessary for success in this country.
We are the people fighting for the survival of our people, not looking for approval from whites.

  11. Well said, La Shawn, and dittos to you, Heliotrope, at 4. I particularly like your reference to the Yogi Berra line — observe the photo La Shawn provided of the gesturing thugs, one offering a mid-finger and the other a crotch grab. Just looking at the image, I’m having a sense these dudes aren’t going to be good Americans, no matter what Congress conjures up to offer to them….

Now recall a mental image, one you can stir up from memory, having seen the picture in your newspaper from time to time. Imagine to yourself the image of a legal immigrant, of any nationality, faith or color, who has made it to the day his/her US citizenship is granted. Think of the image of that person, smiling through tears with hand over heart, reciting the Pledge of Allegiance as a US citizen for the first time, cherishing the moment. One nation, under God, indivisible.

Give me hope, Lord, to see more of the latter image than the former.

  12. La Shawn, that’s what I call righteous anger!!!

Sometimes I wonder what things would be like if the righteous would be a little emphatic. I Kings 2:23-24. Jesse, Al and all the other false prohets & teachers would certainly be nobodies now.

If these so called Black “Church” leaders had confronted sin & irresponsibility as a logical/spiritual extension of MLK’s crusade after his death, we wouldn’t be talking about silly things like ‘hate crimes’ or enduring all manner of race-baiting etc.

Alas, Christians have bought into the separation of Church & State myth and have become pusillanimous about the measure of their faith and how/where they can weild the sword of truth.

I saw Hannity & Combes last night and Jesse Peterson came out and called Jesse Jackson an evil man (over the railroading of Duke LAX players). That’s what I’m talking about.

You could see Combes was somewhat shocked and wanted to confront Peterson on it, instead he fumbled and Peterson was off to the next question. That’s what I want to see.

Every God-fearing man & women should be calling these false teachers for what they are, EVIL.

Drowning with a millstone around their necks would be too good for them. Matt 18:6, Mark 9:42, Luke 17:2

God bless you La Shawn and don’t let anyone try to tampened your fire. Rather, I should have to put on my cheap dark sunglasses 8)

Perhaps that extension would have been more ably transitory if, Dr. King’s assassination, had not been a “hate-crime”! It’s all so interesting that introspection is required only after years of “others” neglecting it. Suddenly those who were deemed inferior by consensus and law, are now to be more noble and utterly flawless.

Indeed we have far to go!

  16. Hispanic-on-black violence and PC

LaShawn Barber makes several important points in a blog post today on the strange lack of protest and the “stunning” lack of blanket coverage on the problem in California with attacks on blacks by Hispanic gangs.

Trackback by American Thinker Blog — 01.03.07 @ 2:33 pm

  17. Angel: I think you’re missing the point of LaShawn’s blog. She is not out to condemm the black race. Indeed, that would be rather silly, since there are any number of different cultures represented in America (native black, Caribbean, north African, south African, etc.) which have almost nothing in common other than the skin color of most of their occupants. When we talk about “black culture”, we are talking about an over-generalization. (Same goes for “white culture”, BTW.)

And that’s the point. Angel, you strike me as an individualist, someone who isn’t going to let anyone else tell you what to think just based on the way you look. However, there is a rather significant group of self-styled leaders who would presume to tell all black people that they must act in certain ways or believe in certain things just because they have black skin. And a significant number of those self-styled leaders are themselves black. That’s what LaShawn is getting at. And do notice that she doesn’t hold any fire from the white lefists who back those “leaders” either. It’s not a black-white thing. It’s a thing of trying to destroy a malformed culture, which has been fairly successful in taking root in many majority-black areas of America. Which is maybe why it comes across the way it does.

The reason LaShawn filed this under “comedy” is to, as Rush Limbaugh sometimes does, illustrate absurdity by being absurd. The point is: how long is it going to be before we’re breaking down homicides into categories like “Vietnamese-Hispanic-Druidist on Black-Lesbian-Jewish”? The people who are doing black and white thing would like very much to use the law to punish a group who disagree with them politically, and so they would viciously prosecute one category while excusing others. But murder is murder. A black murder victim is every bit as dead as a white murder victim. All murders are tragedies and affronts to the rule of law, regardless of the appearance of either the perp or the victim. There are certain human values that all of use share (or should), regardless of our skin color. Black parents by and large grieve for their dead children just as much as white parents or Asian parents or Cuban parents do.

So why are certain groups making a big issue out of these categories? Because they want to be able to use the law as a baseball bat to beat down their political opponents. These people do not have your or my bests interests in mind; they care nothing about the integrity of law or the common values of humanity as long as they can use those things as blunt weapons to persecute certain groups and enslave others.

That, Angel, is in a nutshell what we’re about here. LaShawn refuses to make any excuses for herself, or blame anyone else for any problems she might have, based on skin color. And I support that.

  18. M.L.

You may be onto something. People do love to read about those awful black people. They’re way more interesting and scary than you and me, M.L.

    Andy,

I saw H & C last night as well. The only reason they have Jesse Lee Peterson on is to bash Jackson. No real solutions, no answers. Just bashing. It’s a way for the people who hate Jesse Jackson to add credibility if they have a black person doing it. I am not a Jesse Jackson or Al Sharpton fan. They are media creations to shorthand to a mass audience what is perceived as the black community. We are as diverse and individual as the “white community”. We have a diversity of values and opinions. But, everyone reading this board knows that. At least, the blacks reading it.

Much of what passes for black conservatism involves giving comfort to bigots. Statements that can made to a chorus of rowdy “Hell, yeahs!” from people who have no real interest in the success of blacks. But, they sure do love to study the pathologies. To what end?

All this nonsense is a distraction from the fact that the real battleground is education. The future of black America will be determined by access to education and the quality of said education. Even the conservative wonks who love vouchers, pause when they consider the prospect of little brown and black children in their “good” school.

All of the above is not to say that crime is not a real issue. I’m more likely to be a victim of crime than the average person. And, I have been. But, I do not hate black people. I am black and a true conservative, but I’m not interested in bashing my people to prove my bonafides.

I know you’re responding to Andy, but I wanted to add a comment. Can’t speak for Jesse Peterson or other black conservatives, but “giving comfort to bigots” is the risk you take in a country with freedom of speech. I won’t police my words or thoughts because you or any other “true conservative” believe my words are dangerous.

Here’s some advice. Rather than complaining about people who talk and write about social pathologies that plague the black community, why don’t you tell us about some of those good things black people do?

Lastly, social pathologies, which you say conservatives “love” to study, are THE main problem in black America, unstable families being the most crucial. I for one am fed up with talk of white racism as the cause. If my words or those written by like-minded commenters bother you, by all means visit and comment on blogs where your criticism is not only welcomed but echoed. Or start your own blog and talk about all those good things black people do. No one - not a black conservative nor white bigot - is stopping you. - Admin

  20. Heliotrope - I think I love you!

When we stop making EXCUSES for vile and despicable behavior regardless of race, sex, religion or national origin, we will be making progress. A thug is a thug - regardless of skin color.

When we stop calling ourselves hyphenated Americans, we will be making progress. Either you are an American or you are not. If you are not, then that’s a whole different discussion and should probably involve the INS.

When we put the lives, education and welfare of our children before ANYTHING ELSE including a new car, bling, jazzy clothes or looking “cool” or whatever, then we will be making progress.

When we start to understand that there is right and there is wrong and resolve to avoid wrong whenever possible, then we will be making progress.

When we start to understand that not the COLOR OF YOUR SKIN, nor your ethnicity, nor your economic status, nor your religious affiliation can ever be used to excuse wrong behavior - then we will have arrived at a place where we can talk.

I see lots of white people (of which I am one) either doing their darnedest to act black (which black people must find either irritating or seriously amusing) or to present themselves as somehow superior because of their pasty, fish-belly whiteness. You know what - I don’t give a damn WHAT your ancestors were or accomplished. It doesn’t have a thing in the world to do with you, white guy, and what have YOU done to improve the human condition?

  21. Angel, part of the H&C discussion was about how Jesse Jackson bum-rushed the media stage and spouted off about the great harm done to this po’ black chile by a bunch of white hoodlums. The crux was Jesse made this big pronouncement with nary a shred of proof, other than the charges filed by Nifong.

The only reason the limousine liberals and race-baiter have Jesse Jackson on screen is to bash white-guilters. No real solutions, no answers. Just bashing. It’s a way for the people who hate conservatism & the notion of personal responsibility — and by extension, the God Almighty — to add credibility if they have a black person doing it.

Then there’s this gem of yours: All this nonsense is a distraction from the fact that the real battleground is education. The future of black America will be determined by access to education and the quality of said education. Even the conservative wonks who love vouchers, pause when they consider the prospect of little brown and black children in their “good” school.

Ironic that you should mention that. Jesse did all his gabbing and posturing before even meeting Crystal Gail, saying; “I can’t wait … to talk with her and have prayer with her, because our organization is committed, when she’s physically and emotionally able … to provide for her the scholarship money to finish school so she will never … again have to stoop that low to survive”.

Yo, Jesse, the girl is/was a college student. It’s not a lack of education that brought her down, rather the lack of ‘right’ training & values.

As for vouchers, it’s been addressed all over the blog. Inquiring minds may wonder with the very high demand for it by blacks and resultant waiting lists, why isn’t Jesse & the NAACP on board? Afterall, the mind is a terrible thing to waste upon the altar of socialist progressive experiements? Especially since the 3′Rs have served millions over the years just fine.

The real battleground is not access and ‘quality of education’. Anybody can go far with a little bit of education, ingenuity & self-reliance. The real battle is for the heart & soul of our citizenry in the short term, and ensuring the road to hell is paved with their ashes, thus smoothing the passage of the Godless elites.

Where was Jesse, where at the time of this girl’s formative years? Was he out preaching that black girls ought to put a chasity lock between their legs until they finish education? NO!

Was he out there telling her ‘boyfriends’ to study hard and shew themselves approved and worthy of a girl’s love & devotion. And to stop this silliness of running around singing “Ho”, “Pimp Daddy” and general disrespect for others around them? NO!

Was he out there teaching self-respect, self-discipline, self-improvement and to rise up out of whatever circumstances that fate God placed them? NO!!!

Instead we get “It’s all whitey’s fault. It’s the system’s fault. We is gonna gets our payback, gawd willing. While Al & Jesse do the step’in - fetch’n minstrel show for their limousine liberal massahs, millions of blacks fall by the wayside or tossed like cute little kitties in a sack.

Tell me this, where is the Dyn-o-mite Duo on the issue of black parents YouTubing their 6 - 8 year olds ultimate fighting (kids beating each other to a pulp)? If you saw it, you would have heard more ‘niggers’ than Michael Richards ever uttered in his lifetime.

The problem with Al & Jesse is that if they didn’t have white on black atrocities, they’d be fetchin pieces of silver like the Eddie Murphy bit on skateboards in Trading Places.

And that’s it in a nutshell, these so-called black leaders, with the Cracker Jacks “Reverend Sheepskin”, have sold our black future for mere pieces of silver and made a mockery of God in the process.

To not condemn them, or bash them as you put it, is to tacitly condone their treachery. Take a close look at the verses I provided and in the proper context and it is clear; Either you’re with them or you’re against them. You can’t ride the fence on this.

  22. Black Power! Down with Whitey! Wow Angel what kind of white people have you been hanging out with lately? Any? I mean since 1954? If you are young I hope you grow out of it. Anyway, I’m white and married to a black woman so I have a very big interest in the success of black people.

I understand that you think you are being picked on but you’re on LaShawn’s website for heaven’s sake. Shouldn’t you expect that she writes about things important to her. If you’re worried about “dirty laundry” quit kidding yourself - everyone with eyes can see it. LB’s point is that the same old tired methods won’t work anymore.

As for black ways and white ways - whatever. I’ve been around both blacks and whites plenty and right is right and wrong is wrong. It matters not who you are.

As for church leaders doing the right thing, the feminization of men, including in churches, is a huge problem. I belong to a church (predominately black) where the Bishop tells men how to be men in regards to all the responsibilities we have: how to lead our families, work, faith leadership for our families, how to love our wife like Jesus loves the church etc etc. Being a man means leading but it also means giving your wife and others something to respect in you as a man.

Anyway, I want to say that a lot of us are on your side.

  25. In defense of Angel, I don’t think she spoke out of school when she said that all the vitriol about Jesse, Al, or any other black leader is a distraction. Indeed it is. Frankly, most black folks don’t pay any attention to the goings and comings of Sharpton and Jackson. Most folks are too busy trying to provide for their families, whether it be a two parent or single parent household. Unfortunately, it is mostly white folks who give credence to Sharpen and Jackson either by giving them an audience or overreacting to their comments. The reality is that nothing anyone says will stop them from doing what they do. So it is time to move past the same course of dialogue.

Also, Angel was correct in her assessment of Jesse Peterson. He was only on the show to bash Jackson, which adds nothing to our society and nothing to the view of Christians.

I’ve seen post after post where people have said that Jackson and Sharpton should be condemned. But my question is who should condemn another flawed human? I dare say no one who professes to be a Christian should do so. As the Jesus himself instructed “Judge not, and ye shall not be judged, condemn not, and ye shall not be condemned.” Luke 6:37. What’s more the New Testament goes on to say “O man, whosoever thou art that judgest: for wherein thou judgest another, thou condemnest thyself; for thou that judgest doest the same things.” Romans 2:1. So accordingly, the focus should not be on Jackson, Sharpton, or any other so-called leader.

Instead, the focus should be on coming up with solutions for our family, neighborhoods, communities, cities, towns, states, and nation. There are too many problems that require creative solutions to focus of the character or personality of a handful of people. If people spent time actually debating ideas, this country would be much better off. (It’s still the greatest on earth, but could be better).

I agree training a child up in the admonition of the Lord is the way to go. This, however, will not always keep a child from engaging in unproductive activity. But it does give that child a great foundation to return to if he or she goes through a period of rebellion. But the solutions to our problems do require attention be paid to the quality of education being received by some children in society.

Vouchers is not the ultimate solution. While some kids may get into a high performing school, there are many others who will not. These kids will be left behind in the under-performing schools receiving less than the best education. Are they not worthy of a quality education?

Crime is also a huge problem that plagues the black community. Those who grew up in any inner city in America can attest to that fact. It’s not that black folks don’t care about black on black crime, it’s that many are afraid and don’t know what to do about it. Of course, you have some heroic folks who attempt to deter this type of crime. Those folks are the exception.

Of course, addressing crime will involve profiling and stronger police tactics. Most black folks favor such. Will there be mistakes? Of course. But most folks will understand if it is truly a mistake. Yet, the aforementioned alone will not be enough to curb crime. It will also involve providing hope through education and training for many in those neighborhoods.

Racism was a major cancer infecting our society. Thankfully, most of that cancer has been eradicated. From time to time, it will come out of readmission and remind us all of how terrible it can be. When those times arise, everyone, those on the left and right, to correct that evil. In the meantime, we should be able the work of improving our country for everyone.

  28. some people may think i’m out of line (i’m hispanic), but i’m offering an honest opinion based on what i’ve seen, heard, and learned during my time on this earth.

i don’t believe that mlk and all his supporters marched, sacrificed, and did what they did so that SOME blacks can live how they’re living: having ‘x’ kids by ‘z’ different fathers, joining gangs (ie. crips, bloods), living off the public dime, etc. at my former place of employment, i had a black co-worker who (quote) “i’m not going to lose him to the streets.” she was, of course, referring to her son. for anyone familiar with ’sold to jon corzine’, you know that passaic won’t be making ‘50 best cities to live’ anytime soon. but simply put, he knew not to mess around with his mom b/c she would put him back on the straight and narrow in a heartbeat. i fail to see that in SOME black (and hispanic) homes. i can tell you for sure that the belt and sandal were no strangers to my behind. i was at times unruly, and had to be put in line. in short, it’s not whitey’s fault. nor is it the zionist’s fault. personal responsibility is sadly becoming extinct.

  29. #10 Angel:

You have got the right stuff. I am glad to know that Roxbury has a solid core of solid families.

I am a bit put off by the idea that you are “raising (y)our children with the right (not “white”) values.”

“Right” values fit all shapes, colors and sizes and are not the domain of any selected group.

The fact that you express it the way you do makes me think that you have a thorn in your side.

Color Christ with any crayon in your jumbo box of Crayolas and His message is still the same.

Please, Angel, let go of your hesitancy to cross “racial lines.” We are all humans here and skin color is just another of God’s ways to challenge our self-image.

Don’t trap youself by self segregation. Believe it or not, much of the “outside world” could care less about your skin color if you are a productive, honest, enthusiastic person who loves life.

FYI, Harry Belafonte and Jim Brown are working inside the prison system to quell some of the disputes between the different groups. Their hope is, that work will prevent those being released back to the streets from exacerbating the violence.

Suppose the law imposes a penalty of P years for crime C. The law also stipulates an additional penalty AP if the victim is a member of protected group G.

We can restate the law in a mathematically equivalent way: the penalty for crime C is P+AP years, unless the victim is a not member of group G, in which case the penalty is reduced by AP years.

The criminal is rewarded for preying on those unworthy of the full protection of the law. Happy hunting!

Our government is full of bleeding heart LIBERALS who has made laws that intice others to SLITHER accoss the border. I live in HOUSTON & go to gun shows, & I have seen non-english speaking hispanics buying assualt weapons & large quantities of ammunition from private owners. Buying from private owners means no background checks. While AMERICANS are being ENTERTAINED with their favorite past time, the hispanics are planning a TROJAN HORSE attack. AMERICANS have been brainwashed into beleiving that GUNS KILL, & are afraid to carry a gun out of fear from being arressted & thrown in jail. We the PEOPLE need to get our heads out of the sand & force the government to do what we want!!! 38. Sigh!

Antonio wrote @ #25: “I’ve seen post after post where people have said that Jackson and Sharpton should be condemned. But my question is who should condemn another flawed human? I dare say no one who professes to be a Christian should do so. As the Jesus himself instructed “Judge not, and ye shall not be judged, condemn not, and ye shall not be condemned.” Luke 6:37. So accordingly, the focus should not be on Jackson, Sharpton, or any other so-called leader.

Well, let’s see what Jesus and the Apostles have to say about “judging”.

I don’t know how many times the canard of ‘Christians ought not to judge’ has been addressed and found wanting right here on La Shawn’s Corner of the blogosphere. If anyone ought not ‘judge’ it would be the babes in need of milk - for everyone not yet weaned, they are unskillful in the word of righteousness. (Hebrews 5:11 - 14)

Let’s look at the context of your quotes:
Luke 6:37, what’s the context here? About how we ought to be, yes? If so, who judged first? The commenters here or Jesse in his fanciful wisdom? I mean before we even get to verse 37, Jesse has ignored or violated verses 26 on up. So when Jesse presumes to judge, he naturally gets smacked upside the head with verses 37 thru 49.

Romans 2:1, again, what’s the context here? The issue is hypocrisy, not judgment. IOW, Paul is saying don’t judge someone for doing the same thing you’re doing. Keep reading the rest of Romans Chp 2; Paul also condemns those who say ‘don’t commit adultry’, yet do it themselves and in doing so, blaspheme the name of God among the unbelievers. That’s why Jesse couldn’t speak to Chrystal’s immorality and had to come up with one of his witty, and silliest, sound bite: “Don’t Strip. Scholarship“. How STUPID & shallow is that?

The point is this, of course we should judge, especially those who pose as evangelicals. That’s why none of us gives a hoot about Farrakahan’s doctrine. No more than Christian would parse the Dalai Lama’s teachings. But when a socalled reverend invokes Christ, then we are going to scrutinize him. It doesn’t matter if you’re black or white, or yellow. Just ask Rick Warren about the flack he’s caught for the brand of condensed milk that he’s hawking. Look what the Apostles did when one would try to profit from faith (Acts 5:1 - 14), likewise, we are to toss out the subversive heretics (ooooh, that’s a harsh condemnation) after the second adnomintion (Titus 3::9-11)

If one wants to get into the meat of discerning & condemning false teachings, then a thorough study of 1 Corinthians 2, Titus, Hebrews 4:12 & 2 Peter is but one starting point. How, pray tell should we stop the mouths of unruly & vain talkers who subvert whole houses, teaching things they ought not for filthy lucre’s sake if as you posit, Jesus commanded us not to “judge” others?

Or how about when Paul tells us that the word of God is quick, powerful & sharper than a two-edged sword and is a discerner of the thots and intents of the heart? Of course we’re supposed to judge. Judge what someone is preaching, compare their insight or the lack thereof against the arbiter of truth — God’s Word.

Therefore, I can look at what Al & Jesse preach & proclaim that their intentions are evil and that they do not speak for me either as a black or more importantly as a child of God. Have you wondered about exactly what church is it that confers the mantle of bishop on these poseurs? None, least wise in accordance with Scriptures. Without getting into discussion of denominations, suffice to say that the ‘church’ that Al & Jesse hail from was self-evidently devised by none other than Satan, the father of all lies (2 Corinthians 11:13 - 15). Easy enough to do when you run your own church and pick your elders, ensuring that they can’t, won’t or are too dumb to rebuke you (Tit 1:7 - 9).

Bottomline, if you’re a Christian, don’t be cowed by the secular progressives that would have you believe that you ought to be quiet, lest you violate Jesus’ commandments. Check out La Shawn’s old post “Was Jesus A Liberal”. It’s worth the read & cross references.

Then you wrote this: “Vouchers is not the ultimate solution. While some kids may get into a high performing school, there are many others who will not. These kids will be left behind in the under-performing schools receiving less than the best education. Are they not worthy of a quality education?

Again, plenty has been archived here about vouchers & charter schools. Right now Topeka, KS, in the iron grip of the teacher’s union is about to find out whether a few black women can break that monopoly. Curious as to who they might be?

Fifty-six years ago, the Rev. Oliver Brown and 12 other black parents helped kick-start the civil rights movement when they tried to enroll their children in all-white schools in Topeka, Kan. The schools’ refusal helped give rise to the U.S. Supreme Court’s landmark 1954 Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka case, which led to school desegregation nationwide.

Brown’s old neighborhood school, Sumner Elementary, has been shuttered for years. Now two black Kansas educators want to turn it into a charter school for at-risk students, most of whom, they say, will be black or Hispanic. Their bid, which goes before the Topeka school board next month, has a certain symbolic importance: Not only would it reopen the landmark building, potentially to children of all races — it illustrates just how far the discussion on race and schooling has moved since Brown.

The proposal is backed by Cheryl Brown Henderson, one of Brown’s daughters, who heads the Brown family foundation. She is on the governing board, whose plan includes a proposal to buy Sumner from the city and raise up to $5.5 million to renovate it.

I’d like to see you tell these ladies that they are nuts :)

    Ciao,

  39. When I lived in Chicago in the mid-80s, the black underclass was merciless on Asian, Hispanic arrivals, especially the illegals. Articles at the time said the experience was so common, most Asian or Hispanic families claimed to have at least one friend or family member assailed by black criminals, frequently with racial slurs shouted. They were targeted as easy prey, much as happened in LA and other parts of the SW earlier. Rapes, muggings, random murders, intimidation at school, robberies. And the same pattern is happening now in the South. Asian and Hispanic gangs that started small in the drug trade are now in the protection racket and gangs are greatly expanding in size and taking in plenty with military experience or trained by immigrants who used to be police or military before immigrating to America - and they can be pretty vicious people offering their fellow ethnics protection from black predators for a portion of paychecks. And even cleansing and routing blacks out of schools and neighborhoods once “black folks longtime turf” on request.

In prisons, the general rule appears to be that Asians, Hispanics, and Whites will cooperate with one another slightly in certain conditions, or as fully made members of different gangs (there are lower-ranked white anglo members of the Mexican Mafia, the Aryan Brotherhood or biker gangs take Hispanic and Asian members - but most enter with long-standing animosities towards blacks, and will not work with blacks.

Now I agree that we should clamp down on illegal immigration. It’s not good for the whole country..just the wealthy Owner class and certain elites making fortunes off exploiting cheap labor or providing immigrant services and those leaders that see Open Borders as enhancing their power. (And of those, black leaders wanting 10s of millions more illegals are the truly insane ones)

But part of what is happening to blacks is hispanic and asian memory of the “welcome wagon” the black underclass greeted them with when they were smaller in number, new to America, unorganized, afraid to talk to white or black cops after being a victim of a crime. Now that has changed, and the sons of victimized immigrants have been doing a classic “what comes around, goes around back” payback - aided by drug funds, car theft funds, and “protection from the blacks” payments levied in neighborhoods. A payback that includes revenge for very long ago crimes done to family when they were unable to retaliate. Now they can be very well skilled in fighting arts and weapons use, with tighter discipline than their rival black gangs, and willingness to kill if need be.

  40. A lot of black people, it seems to me, really have no idea what’s going to happen to them with this wave of illegal immigration. A lot of Mexicans are very racist against black people. We have Mexican on black race crimes all the time out here in Los Angeles. Just look at the demographic changes of the various Los Angeles neighborhoods: formerly black neighborhoods are gradually being taken over by the Mexicans. If the black community has a voice, they should join with LSB and use it before it’s too late.

So who exactly is it that shows up at their rallies? And if they don’t represent a real constituency with an identifiable world-view, then who exactly was it that reelected Nifong?

” … it is mostly white folks who give credence to Sharpen and Jackson …. [Jesse Peterson] was only on the show to bash Jackson, which adds nothing to our society and nothing to the view of Christians. ”
Actually, if it gets white people to pay less attention to Jackson and Sharpton, that’s a very valuable contribution to our society.

It isn’t fair that the MSM have appointed those wretched people your spokesmen without asking you about it. If you really don’t like it then you should be actively saying “Not In My Name!” whenever they appear. At the very least you should be applauding those who do, not criticising them.

So who is it that attends his rallies?
If there isn’t a substantial group out there that at least somewhat agrees with the worldview he preaches, then how did Nifong get reelected?

“Unfortunately, it is mostly white folks who give credence to Sharpen and Jackson …”
I hope you’re right. If that’s true, our problems are a bit easier to solve than I thought. But if it is true then:

” [Jesse Peterson] was only on the show to bash Jackson, which adds nothing to our society and nothing to the view of Christians. ”
Actually, if it gets white people to stop paying attention to those two, it adds a *lot* to our society. And only blacks can get whites to stop listening to them.

It’s totally unfair that the MSM has appointed those sleazebags your representatives without asking you, but if you don’t like it you’re the one stuck having to do something about it.

I can understand you thinking calling them “evil” is a bit over the top, but “profoundly wrong in their views and destructive in their effects” sounds pretty accurate.

You have both a right and a rational self-interest to say “Not in my name!” about those two, and should applaud others who do so, even if you have stylistic problems with their rhetoric.

This past weekend I was speaking to a beautiful young woman (whose parents were Mexican immigrants) who had succeeded phenomenally. What was so interesting was the dichotomy in the views of someone I spoke with afterward who noted that she had been so well received by society because she was special. In fact, she was well received because she was a “productive, honest, enthusiastic person who loves life” just as Helio noted.

  46. I guess I couldn’t stay away. Heliotrope is telling me to “let go of my hesitancy to cross racial lines”. The context in which I said right values not “white” values was to point out that the skills and values necessary for success are not exclusive to whites. They are American values that are time-tested. I mentioned this in my reply to Jan.

A little background about myself. My maternal grandfather was white. My maternal grandmother was black. On my father’s side, the grandparents were the reverse. My ex-wife is white. My current girlfriend is white. The majority of my friends are white. Not a decision based on color, but common interests. I have no hesitancy whatsoever to cross racial lines. In fact, the family I was raised in didn’t discuss color because it was never an issue for us. Some of you would identify me as multiracial. I have been mistaken for Egyptian, Italian, Brazilian. You name it, people have called me that.

But, at the end of the day, people see a black man. And, as such, I believe I have a responsibility to dwell not on what some of us do wrong, but on what we do right. That doesn’t mean I want to avoid the airing of dirty laundry. It frustrates me to no end. Because when you see me walking down the street, I carry the baggage of all those miscreants. I want to be judged as an individual, not a stereotype. I honestly believe there is a way to have a balanced view where you can point out the fact there are more people like me in this country. I believe Bill Cosby is right, there is a place for the N.A.A.C.P and color is immaterial.

If that means, as suggested, that I do it myself, I will. But, it’s too bad that all these evil motives are being ascribed to me because I think it’s a waste of time to say, “Jesse Jackson is a bad man.” Really? No kidding! Anyway, just wanted to let folks know where I’m coming from. Someone described me as an individualist. That sounds about right.

I’m 40 years old and a father of a wonderful young woman who will inherit not just the value that I have tried to instill in her, but the long, sad history of the culture of race in this country.

If trying to discuss it and persuade folks there is another way to approach these issues, makes me a bad person. I plead guilty.

My advice is to take “race” and stuff it up the chimney. Why should any child have to be challenged to identify his racial difference? Does Ernie on Sesame Street care? Does Barney care? Does the Lord care?

The continuation of “race” makes a contest out of divisions within the human race.

My family tree and the fruits of it are not racially pure either. Do I believe that one tone of skin is superior or inferior to another? Only to the extent that I have bought into the snake oil promoted by the race pimps.

In the end, we either choose our bugaboos or we confidently ignore them.

Of course I see color but I’ve learned that you have to give people a minute before you can say what they’re like. Some of the roughest looking guys I’ve seen are really nice once one gets to know them. And some pleasant looking people are mean and dumb once one gets to know them. I’m not nostalgic so I don’t dwell on the past although I enjoy reading about history.

  51. Helio,

My family background left race out of the equation. Race was not something discussed in my family because it was not unusual to talk to my Pakistani uncle before he handed the phone to my Puerto Rican aunt. I’m not obsessed with race at all. Race differences and the hierarchy of shade of skin was a system thrust upon us. If you think it doesn’t matter to some conservatives, you’re kidding yourself. They couldn’t even let Halle Berry enjoy her groundbreaking Oscar win (though I disagreed with the Academy’s choice) without bringing up her white mother as though that disqualified her from being black. We didn’t create the “one drop of blood” rule. Race and the misery it brings to this country was created to keep slavery in place.

    Comment by Angel — 01.04.07 @ 9:08 pm

  52. I agree that the black community should be looking more inward to discover and then solve our cultural problems. The biggest problem we would find is our abandonment of the God who has brought us through so much. The same God who kept some of our ancestors alive in the nastiest conditions on slave ships, the One who allowed our love of community to grow even with the threat of punishment for gathering to worship, or teach and learn from one another, or steal kisses from loved ones in the woods after being ripped from our family members, the Almighty who delivered us from 400 years of slavery, and gave a great many of our ancestors genius IQ’s, and invention ideas, and poetry of praise and poetry of despair. The list of what they accomplished and contributed to America (not including physically building a country in which they had no legal rights)is too great to name. Many of these inventions and songs we still benefit from and sing and recite today.

If it’s true that if we forget our history we shall repeat it, than we need to not only teach our children and learn ourselves about our own culture, but what we MUST include first and foremost in that teaching, God as our only Savior, God as our Provider, God as our Deliverer. I believe that the fact that we have replaced the Lord with the Government in these and many other roles, causes a regression into where we have come from. But this time it is a slave mentality that our culture embraces everytime we look to government to swoop down and give us another program to save our children from the streets, or to give us a little bit of money, which they take back with the other.

But I’m not just talking about looking to the “whites”, I’m talking about any race, religion, sexual orientation, or half-naked booty shaking so-called entertainer put in front of the Lord. How much longer are we going to give our allegiance and money to sports teams, ignoring the Lord’s desire to to be our personal MVP? How much longer will we “go get our freak, or drink, or groove on” on Friday and Saturday nights, and then use Sunday to relax. I realize that not everyone is going to get saved, but the Lord told us to teach our children the Word when we lie down, get up, walk along the road, and to write His Word on the tablets of their hearts.

He takes care of the salvation part, but if we would diligently TEACH and LEARN the WORD of GOD as He told us to that’s where we find success. That’s where our salvation came from in the past, and it’s the only hope of salvation we can count on today.

  59. This particular LaShawn post had to do with a black child being slaughtered without cause by a hispanic and she asked, where’s the outrage? I, too, want to know where the outrage is. I haven’t seen it on the news..not even Fox. I sure as heck don’t expect it was ever shown on the MSM. And, that, my friends, is the problem with this country. If you only read or watch the MSM, you’d think that every illegal immigrant in this country was a victim who was only trying to earn money to support his family and that simply is not the case. The media loves to make victims. The illegals who stole identities and were rounded up by the feds at the Swift plants were universally declared victims by the media. The real victims whose identities were stolen were barely mentioned. Heck, I’m sure if the media were forced to report on the murder of this child, they would deem the killers as victims of their past.

People who senselessly kill other people are murderers irrespective of their race or their poor, oppressed past. In my book, people who enable or justify these behaviors for any reason are accomplices. Our society is at risk if this mentality continues.

  62. Come on, no media is going to cover this. Who the hell cares what the minorities do to each other. Only time it mattes is when a white person is involved, for the good or bad. Ohh well.
