What does this have to do with Obama's ability to be a great leader? We're facing some very serious problems in this country, and quite frankly I don't give a damn about Anna Nicole, what school Obama went to, Britney Spears or any other frivolous stuff. Lets figure out how we can get back to looking Bin Laden, as of now the Taliban and Al Qaeda has tripled in size. Meanwhile we're stuck in this mess in Iraq.

I am some fifteen days younger than Obama and my Kenyan biological father knew the elder Obama and wrote about him in 2004 (may require registration).

I have Dreams of My Father, but haven't read it yet, as some of it may hit a little too close to home (my father and mother divorced when I was an infant and I have yet to meet my father face-to-face).

I don't know whether racism caused Obama's parents to divorce or not--but I suspect that cultural differences were the culprit as was so for my parents (many Africa cultures do pratice polygamy, including some of the Kenyan tribes). BTW, my mother is a black American.

#23

"in the last and quite lengthy chapter, he goes into much detail about his fathers failures, wives, families, children, drunkeness, character flaws, the whole sordid story ..."

Not important. Obama is bad for America for a number of reasons:

1. Not black enough.
2. Not white enough.
3. Not Conservative enough.
4. Not Liberal enough.
5. Says all the wrong things.
6. Says all the right things.
7. Is a fake Muslim.
8. Is a fake Christian.
9. Has the wrong name.

He's toast.

If you haven't read the book, and are basing your commentary off of this article, you're misinformed. Post #23 is on point.

The "well, the courageous thing to do is disown his father" comment was also funny, but in a different, sadder way.

Gotta make one comment; If a man's faith informs his world view, then I'd be more concerned about the white-washed cowpatties spewed by Obama's church. (H/T to Lisa M in ...your children, your responsibility thread)

La Shawn, I hope you'll give the sappy code of beliefs the fisking it deserves.

Why?

I've mentioned in times past here that Believers must sometimes forcefully challenge false teachers, lest by our silence, the world thinks we approve.

I'll go ahead and take 4 shots at it for now and eagerly await to see other potshots:

We are a congregation which is Unashamedly Black and Unapologetically Christian... Our roots in the Black religious experience and tradition are deep, lasting and permanent. We are an African people, and remain "true to our native land," the mother continent, the cradle of civilization.

1) So what does that make Abrahm, whom God called to forsake the land of his fathers? A sellout to his native land?? Didn't Ur/Babylon have something to do with the dawning of civilization?

God has superintended our pilgrimage through the days of slavery, the days of segregation, and the long night of racism. It is God who gives us the strength and courage to continuously address injustice as a people, and as a congregation.

2) It'd be nice if everyone remembered that if it wasn't for amazing grace and the diligence of fundamental evangelists, slavery would well be with us. IOW, it was NOT the liberals who ushered in the concept of human rights, rather the God-fearing Christians. So I expect Obama will be reminding his new friends of that fact.

We constantly affirm our trust in God through cultural expression of a Black worship service and ministries which address the Black Community.

Trinity United Church of Christ adopted the Black Value System written by the Manford Byrd Recognition Committee chaired by Vallmer Jordan in 1981. We believe in the following 12 precepts and covenantal statements. These Black Ethics must be taught and exemplified in homes, churches, nurseries and schools, wherever Blacks are gathered.

They must reflect on the following concepts:

 1. Commitment to God
 2. Commitment to the Black Community

3) Uh-oh! Black Community before wife and family?? On second thot, Obama's white mother must rank 13th or lower

 3. Commitment to the Black Family
 4. Dedication to the Pursuit of Education
 5. Dedication to the Pursuit of Excellence
 6. Adherence to the Black Work Ethic
 7. Commitment to Self-Discipline and Self-Respect
 8. Disavowal of the Pursuit of "Middleclassness"
 9. Pledge to make the fruits of all developing and acquired skills available to the Black Community
 10. Pledge to Allocate Regularly, a Portion of Personal Resources for Strengthening and Supporting Black Institutions
 11. Pledge allegiance to all Black leadership who espouse and embrace the Black Value System
 12. Personal commitment to embracement of the Black Value System.

The Pastor as well as the membership of Trinity United Church of Christ is committed to a 10-point Vision:

 1. A congregation committed to ADORATION.
 2. A congregation preaching SALVATION.

4) Really!?!?! Adoration before SALVATION??? This is all anyone need to know that this church is founded on shifting sands instead of THE ROCK. Do not walk. Run!! Run as far away from such false teachings.
 3. A congregation actively seeking RECONCILIATION.
 4. A congregation with a non-negotiable COMMITMENT TO AFRICA.
 5. A congregation committed to BIBLICAL EDUCATION.
 6. A congregation committed to CULTURAL EDUCATION.
 7. A congregation committed to the HISTORICAL EDUCATION OF AFRICAN PEOPLE IN DIASPORA.
 8. A congregation committed to LIBERATION.
 9. A congregation committed to RESTORATION.
 10. A congregation working towards ECONOMIC PARITY.

It is not about his father, it is about him lying and blaming racism

So you ignored post #23 right?

Shocking! Can't let facts get in the way of bashing Obama. After all, he said he triumphed over racism, which we all know is a figment of the imagination of neurotic blacks who don't want to earn anything on merit. That can't be right. Except that he did accomplish many things in spite of racism. Hmmm. Can we not even mention racism as a potential obstacle especially when it is?

I would vote for a black man or woman that represented conservative values in a heartbeat.

It is not about his father, it is about him lying and blaming racism. Old and tired, if we wanted that, Sharpton could run.

I've got the answer for the Barack Obama 'issues'.

We throw him in a pond.

A. If he floats, he's a straight liar.

B. If he sinks, he's a race-pimp.

C. If he swims, he's given to deceiving.

But seriously, America isn't ready for 'non-white' presidents, maybe not until the candidates make no mention of their own skin-colour, even then, either side would call them a 'token black' , or 'race-card' etc.

On the other hand - imagine a 'white' presidential candidate campaigning on his 'white' heritage? Oh yes...

What a silly web.

You know the old saying; "the nut doesn't fall far from the tree." I think it is worthwhile to look at the person's father figure. A lot of people overcome poor "fathers", but I suspect a lot also fall into the same patterns that were modeled for them. In Obama, I think we have a chameleon who isn't deeply committed to anything. A chameleon adapts to it's background to survive, always shifting to what's best for the moment. Obama isn't deeply committed to being either a Muslim or a Cristian. That is where his "father's" influence seems to come in. Never committed to his wife and willing to drop the old for the sake of the new, temporarily. Obama will utter the right platitude to the right crowd at the right time, but won't deeply believe any of it, just like Bill Clinton. Hide and watch.

La Shawn,

I won't hold Obama's father's lack of character against him. As long as Obama doesn't carry on the tradition of bigamy. There are so many people in the world who come from a divorced home or a disfunctional household. What I do hold against Obama is being a liberal!

I am of the opinion that if you choose to make your family hostory public then do so canidly and honestly. If you choose a romantacized version be prepared for attacks on your credibility.

As far as I know no one forced Obama to write a book about his father nor to play the race card. Since he chose to do both then any questions are fair game.

My question is why he hid the truth? He's not the first whose family was torn apart because of things like this. It would have made him more human and appealing. The last thing he needs is to give Hillaryco more ammo during the primaries because she's not shy about unloading both barrels in a campaign. Heck my family put the 'fun' in dysfunctional so it's not like I would not have understood his pain. Oh, wait I'm white so there's NO way I could understand a dad who cheats on his mom... Yea.... O_o
