As for education…please check the IL house bill 466 which seeks to limit the growth of charter schools in Chicago and the whole state.

This bill is wrong wrong wrong! Over 10,000 students are on waiting lists in IL to gain a voice in their education.

While other groups, including whites, fight each other over power, money, status, etc. We will continue to do what is best for us and take care of our families, our kids, and ourselves.

My mother always taught me that it doesn’t matter if other people think less of me because of my race. Prejudices only serve to limit one’s intellect and imagination. I take a more live and let live approach believing that other people’s prejudices are their problems and have nothing to do with me.

Obstacles that would limit others are seen as a challenge to overcome. There is no honor in crying over real or perceived grievances. Honor comes in facing those challenges and overcoming them without bringing shame to individual or family.

I am half Hispanic, I suppose. My father was born and raised in Panama and speaks fluent Spanish as well as English. He is a black hispanic but was just classified as black.

I think we’re mistaken here, hispanic is a culture and/or ethnic group, not a race. There are the “Indian” hispanics, the “white” hispanics and “black” hispanics. There are many different colors here.

The current battle over preferred minority status, which I dont believe exists, is crazy, even if it were true. Thats probably the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard. Preferred minority status? What is being fought for? Who is saying this? I dont even hear leftist blacks saying this crap.

I am Hispanic and I consider any hiring attempt, rationale, or preference based on my skin color, to be an affront to my intelligence. I have worked too long and too hard to stand still for something that I regard as rank condescension.

I have been an elementary school principal. I was a principal of a school that was 55% Hispanic. When I made it to the final interview, I made it a point to tell the interview committee and the superintendent that if they were looking to hire “a brown face” to appease their community, they could count me out. I told them they should hire me because I was their best candidate and I would do what was best for all children and represent all the parents.

Happily, I did get hired. It has been my fortune to know that I have made my way in life based on my abilities and merit. I never wonder if any special break, preference, or quota was ever considered when I earned my grades, degrees, jobs, or positions. I couldn’t live with myself otherwise; my pride would not allow it.

Jeff, you say forget about race, then try to turn it all into metrics of student performance as a measure of a pricipal’s effectiveness…based on some naive belief that the race and socioeconomic background of the students has no impact.

I could walk into an all-Asian elementary school in California and only worry about getting the immigrant kids caught up and know because of the parents and hard work the rest would be easy. I could be a principal at a Hassidic Jewish school in NYC or an all-white High school in Vermont and just stay in my office pick my nose, download porn, whatever…even not show up for work the whole year…..and be confident that all your metrics would be satisfied.

No, let’s not forget about race.

And numbers count. The reason why so many inner city schools have black and almost only black employees in staff and administration is that black voters long ago had the numbers to get rid of the whites that held those positions before the 1970s. Now it’s the blacks turn.

If you wish to believe that the Democratic party has crippled blacks more-so than past injustices…you can believe what you want.

I believe that black people in America can succeed if you work hard and put forth the effort to do so, REGAURDLESS OF WHAT POLITICAL PARTY HE OR SHE CHOOSE’S TO VOTE FOR! I can name you plenty of successful black folk…Democrat, Republican, Independant, Socialist…whatever!

Here’s a question for those who believe in the crippling, distructive powers of the Democratic Party. The Jewish population has long VOTED for and supported the Democratic party, should the Dems take credit for how prosperous the Jewish community has become?
