The Weather Doesn’t Like Black People

global warming***Scroll down for updates***

Have you heard about this? In a 59-page report titled, A Climate of Change: African Americans, Global Warming, and a Just Climate Policy in the U.S. (PDF), the left-leaning Joint Center for Political and Economic Studies tries to make the case that global warming disproportionately impacts black people.

What they ought to say is that climate changes disproportionately impact poor people of all colors, but focusing on blacks, who are more likely to be poor than whites, will generate more attention, not to mention indignation.

I grabbed the bait, and now I’m stuck on the hook. Help!

No Air: Rissi v. Jordin

by La Shawn on July 29, 2008

in Pop Culture

Rissi Palmer and Jordin SparksI’d like to interrupt the child killing, race war, and preferential treatment blogging for a bit of music promo-ing (made-up word).

Yahoo!’s Reality Rocks music blog is asking readers to comment on which version of “No Air” they prefer: the original by “American Idol” (I never watch it) winner Jordin Sparks and Chris Brown or the cover by country singer Rissi Palmer.

I’m biased, obviously. ;)

Carry on…

Choose LifeRather than tell women the truth about the unborn life they’re destroying, Planned Parenthood in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, temporarily shut down its abortion mill.

Planned Parenthood sought and was granted a preliminary injunction to stop execution of the 2005 informed consent law, but that injunction expired last week. Under the law, abortionists must tell a woman she’s “terminating the life of a whole separate, unique living human being,” and the woman must certify that she understands. And get this: somebody in the mill must tell the woman she’s at a higher risk of suicide and depression if she kills her baby. (Source)

If abortionists fail to comply, they face loss of medical license, civil liability, and prison. (Also see S. Dakota abortion clinic still not performing abortions, local pro-lifers say and U.S. appeals court upholds S. Dakota informed consent law)

Child killing is legal in the United States, to my everlasting shame, but perhaps hearing and understanding what they’re about to do will discourage women from snuffing out that tiny life. This is a small and likely fleeting victory for the unborn and the pro-life movement, but it’s encouraging.

By the way, there are several ways to avoid having “unwanted” children:

  • Keep your legs closed; or
  • Use birth control; or
  • Carry the baby to term and adopt him out to a loving, stable family.

It’s not rocket surgery.

Update: Classy.

water gunTo disarm the people is the most effectual way to enslave them. - George Mason

I knew all I had to do was wait.

Today, Dick Heller, the plaintiff in the Supreme Court DC gun ban case, filed another lawsuit against DC, claiming its new regulations violate the Second Amendment.

He calls the regulations “highly unusual and unreasonable.” (Source)

Earlier this month, I told you about DC’s so-called compliance with the Supreme Court’s recent ruling. Five out of nine justices said that DC’s former handgun ban violated the Second Amendment. In response, DC drew up new and restrictive gun laws. Follow this: I may buy and register a handgun and keep it in my home, but I must allow the police department to perform ballistics tests on it, I must take and pass a written exam, and I must keep my handgun unloaded and disassembled in my home. If I or anyone in my home feels threatened, I may assemble and load my gun and shoot the person. Such sweethearts.

Heller’s lawyer illustrated the absurdity of the new regulations, saying that a thug would have to make an appointment to rob a resident in order for that resident to use his/her handgun under DC’s new regulations.

Mayor Adrian Fenty and his Second Amendment-hating liberal cabal are determined to keep guns in the hands of criminals and out of the hands of law-abiding residents.

So much for a black-brown coalition. :?

According to the 36-page 2007 Hate Crimes Report (PDF), thugs committed 763 “hate crimes” in 2007 in Los Angeles County, 28 percent higher than last year.

The majority of these crimes was motivated by bias against race/ethnicity and national origin. In “antiblack” crimes, 71 percent of suspects were hispanic; in anti-hispanic crimes, 56 percent of suspects were black. Blacks and hispanics are natural enemies (gang-bangers only?), it seems.

John McCainI’ll bet it was like pulling a tooth, but John McCain finally answered a question about where he stands on the Arizona Civil Rights Initiative, a measure that seeks to ban preferential treatment by the government based on race, sex, etc., in his home state.

Asked point-blank whether he supported the ballot initiative, McCain said, “Yes, I do…I’ve always opposed quotas.” (Source)

(Michelle Malkin is skeptical of McCain’s endorsement.)

Activist Ward Connerly is on a mission to ban preferences from hiring, contracting, and admissions in state governments. His efforts have proved fruitful in three states so far. Californians approved a ban on preferences with 54 percent of the vote in 1996. Voters in Washington state approved a similar measure by 58.3 percent in 1998, and Michigan voters approved the ban by 58 percent in 2006.

As expected, Barack Obama believes governments should treat people differently based on skin color. In response to McCain’s comments, BHO said:

Wee Hours of the Morning Airport Blogging

airportsleepingMonday, July 28: About Essence referring to me as a Republican, although I told the interviewer otherwise, the magazine will publish a correction in the Letters to the Editor section…in the October issue. :?
————————————————————-

2:58 a.m. PT: It’s a tragedy of epic proportions.

I’m spending the night in an airport. In Vegas, of all places. First time. Ever. It’s weird. Flight was canceled, stood in line for an hour to be re-routed. No straight flights, and nothing before 6 a.m. Madness. But I didn’t lose my religion! Thanks, God.

There’s free wireless, though, so I’ve been working and surfing and now I’m blogging. Big fun.

An Essence magazine writer or researcher or whoever interviewed me a couple months ago for a story about black Republicans and conservatives. Although it was nice to see my words quoted accurately, the person I spoke to or the person who wrote or edited the article or whoever got some facts wrong. Here’s my quote from “Crossing Over,” which appears in the August 2008 issue and is not online, unfortunately:

The Beginning of Black Flight

by La Shawn on July 22, 2008

in Faith

7:10 a.m. PT: A reader sent me a link to a story in the Wall Street Journal, “The End of White Flight.” White people left cities in large numbers back in the day and moved to suburbs. They’re moving back. Different demographic, of course.

Blacks, on the other hand, didn’t leave cities in huge numbers during the same time period. The article attributes this to the denial of home loans. Naturally, the implication is that blacks were denied loans because the loan officers were racists and the banks were run by racists.

I don’t want to argue whether it’s true, or what “gentrification” may be doing to the neighborhood, or other racially tense issues. I’ll leave that to you. The article is long, but I’d like to focus on one point.

choirI remember reading a similar article about this “trend.” Blacks are leaving cities for cleaner pastures, and churches in urban areas are losing members. The solution? Reach out to people in the neighborhood…even if they’re white. A church needs members to survive and thrive, and the pastor, if he’s a true man of God, shouldn’t care what color the congregants are.

California and Civil Rights

by La Shawn on July 18, 2008

in Race Preferences

ACRIEn route to California to visit my sister and attend a conference on civil rights, hosted by Ward Connerly of the American Civil Rights Institute.

I count myself among many Americans who loathe race preferences, known in politically correct jargon as affirmative action. I join like-minded others to eradicate this demeaning, unfair, and unconstitutional practice from state government policies across the country.

Rest easy, everybody, and thanks for reading LBC.

…and the media haven’t reported it. What the…?

Every time I hear Barack Obama speak, I’m reminded of the expression, “Like shooting fish in a barrel.” He is the embodiment of it.

His ideas are so incongruous and on-the-fly, I wonder why mainstream media aren’t picking his statements apart. Yes, I know it’s too easy. There’s no challenge in it. Yes, I know mainstream media liberals want him to win. But news organizations report news, and a Democratic candidate advocating a civilian quasi-military security force is news.

On July 2, Obama gave a speech to an audience of what appears to be military veterans. Relevant to this post is this nugget (emphasis added):

“We cannot continue to rely on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives we’ve set. We’ve got to have a civilian national security force that’s just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded.”

Update (7/17): Commenter DavidTheMan writes (emphasis added):

“I stumbled on your site from InstaPundit. I must say you hit the nail on the head. I’m a black conservative male and I’m sure you know the looks you get when you talk to other blacks about Democrats…It is pointless for Republicans to try to pander to blacks to get their votes, there is no need for it because they will simply ignore your efforts. Republicans are better off standing strong on their ideals and the conservative principles and letting people come to the party than trying to go to different ethnic groups and cater a specific message to all of them.”

I concur. And about the so-called Southern Strategy, please read Martin Knight’s comment.
—————————————————————————————–

GOPI’m only one black American among millions, and I’m no authority on black people, nor do I speak for black people.

But I can provide insight.

Back in 2004, Republicans were trying to appeal to black voters. Newt Gingrich and the rest wanted to secure at least 25 percent of the “black vote.” Dream on! I poured a bucket of water over their piddling flame. Won’t work, I said. I explained my reasoning in “Why Courting the Black Vote Won’t Work,” which was published in the Washington Times.

Unlike some black conservatives and Republicans I know, I don’t think the party should appeal to voters based on skin color. I criticize white Republicans when they do it, and I’m disappointed when right-leaning blacks encourage them to do it.

DC Still Gun Blocking

by La Shawn on July 15, 2008

in Judiciary

Isn't he pretty? I call him George.Last month, the U.S. Supreme Court declared the District of Columbia’s ban on handguns unconstitutional.

“The Second Amendment protects an individual right to possess a firearm unconnected with service in a militia, and to use that arm for traditionally lawful purposes, such as self-defense within the home.”

As expected, the District has set up an obstacle course to owning and registering firearms. Under the former ban, residents could own and keep shotguns in the home, but these firearms had to be disassembled and/or fitted with trigger locks. In light of the Supreme Court ruling, District residents may own handguns, but the government will require that these handguns be kept unloaded “and either disassembled secured with a trigger lock, gun safe, or similar device.” (press release)

So, I may own a handgun and keep it in my home, but I must keep the gun unloaded and disassembled? Not a chance.

Very useful! That’s what I’m talking about. Quite important stuff they’re doing. Life-changing ideas, indeed, sure to advance colored people. Keep up the good work. :?

Update (7/15): BHO tells black parents they need to turn off the idiot box. Dream on. Ain’t gonna happen. He adds:

“I know some say I’ve been too tough on folks about this responsibility stuff. But I’m not going to stop talking about it. Because I believe that in the end, it doesn’t matter how much money we invest in our communities, or how many 10-point plans we propose, or how many government programs we launch—none of it will make any difference if we don’t seize more responsibility in our own lives.”

I say the same thing and get called a “self-hater.” Perhaps BHO will have better luck. After all, he is their Messiah!

Then again, people like blaming others and pointing fingers away from self. Raising standards for yourself is too hard, too much work. As far as they’re concerned, “racism” is the sickness, and more government programs, with a heaping helping of misplaced guilt, are the cures. I could go on and on in this vein, but I’d only be repeating myself. I’ve been saying this for four years. It’s boring now. Check out the archives if you want to read more.

Future President Barack Hussein Obama makes so many verbal gaffes, it’s barely challenging to find and expose the ignorance.

Race-pandering before the hispanic racialist group La Raza, BHO equated Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), the government agency charged with carrying out our nations immigration laws, with terrorism. He said:

“When communities are terrorized by ICE immigration raids…when all that is happening, the system just isn’t working, and we need to change it.”
