Did you hear about these idiots plotting to bump off Barack Obama?
A couple of meth heads – Tharin Gartrell, Nathan Johnson – and two others planned to shoot our future president with rifles “from a high vantage point.”
Sounds like somebody’s been watching too much TV.
On Sunday, the cops pulled over Gartrell for driving “in an erratic manner” and found camouflage clothing, walkie-talkies, wigs, a bulletproof vest, a spotting scope, drivers’ licenses, and 44 grams of methamphetamine.
I don’t condone murder. Murder by any other name is still murder, whether it’s slaughtering the unborn or assassinating a political figure. But what were these goofballs thinking?
So you hate Barack Obama and perhaps all black people. Sounds like a personal problem to me. In your hatred, your brilliant idea is to assassinate him, which will turn him into a martyr. If he dies, it’s poison in the veins for you. (The ultimate rush, eh?) If he doesn’t die, off to prison you go. You’ll be vilified and locked up for the rest of your bound-to-be-short lives enduring daily rape by the kind of men you hate. Or, if you’re lucky, you’re raped and killed the first day. Nice plan, fellas.

Unrelated Update: What happened to Townhall? Yuck. I like Ann Coulter and all, but kind of ad-heavy, don’t you think? It’ll probably sell a lot of books, though.
Hey, maybe my future publisher will come up with the same idea. Then some blogger can say, “Yuck. I like La Shawn Barber and all, but…”

I do not hate a single human being based on race.
I do dislike certain human beings based on political ideology.
Methinks these clowns were “hired guns”.

I doubt these losers had a real plan. They were just trying to impress each other with how racist they are.
I see people on the left publicly and CONSTANTLY calling for the deaths of Cheney, Bush, Rice, Rove, etc. No one takes these losers seriously. They are just trying to impress each other with how tolerant and compassionate they are.
If a picture is worth a thousand words, these two are an encyclopedia.
Some people try to convince me that acting on first impressions is bigotry. If either of these guys knocked on my door, I assure you that Mr. Pistol would be by my side. They don’t look like Mormons.
To think that these roaches were sent on a mission is almost comical. But, who knows what grand plan lurks in the tattered and torn minds of the meth world.
Assuming the facts prove them guilty, I hope they are locked away forever. If their acts were racially motivated, I am sure they will be exposed to many counter arguments. If they love blacks and hate liberalism, they will have a wide circle of new company with which to have deep philosophical discussions.
If there is a conspiracy, I pray these two will lead the cops to the nest.
Why would you give this any mention? You should not even plant that seed. Hillary Clinton did the same thing during the primaries.
You are so right about a successful assassination attempt against Barack Obama making him a martyr–that would be as damaging as him taking the presidency.
I’m inclined toward conspiracy thoughts sometimes–either it’s a ploy by the Dem party to heighten the meme that he will be assassinated just because he is black, or it is a prelude to a more deadly plot. I pray neither is the case, and that this race play out as it is meant to be–without harm to either Obama or McCain.

While it is not clear to me whether this was racially motivated [my suspicions say it was], sadly I believe that we will see more of this.
Identity politics set groups at one another’s throats, fighting for their piece of the pie. In Austin, hispanic leaders and the new black city manager are in the midst of a very public conflagration stemming over minority set-asides and piece-of-the-pie-garbage.
Rage simmers below the surface. Meanwhile, I think Austin has gotten exactly the kind of racialized environment it has created and deserves.

Why so concerned about La Shawn planting a seed? These guys are in all the news outlets, so that seed is in the ground and well-watered.
Since, as CorbinKale mentioned, the Left has spent 4 – 8 years calling for the deaths of members of the Bush Administration, and that has resulted in absolutely NO FRUIT from those seeds, why are you so worried now?
Crazies will do what they do (Squeaky Fromme tried to kill the inoffensive Gerald Ford, for cryin’ out loud!), and it doesn’t take any suggestion from La Shawn to set them in motion.

Okay, “planting a seed” may be strong, but is this a story about how meth destroys the brain or about how some crazies might be out to get Obama?
I live in a region that has the dubious distinction of being the meth capital of the US, California’s Inland Empire (Riverside and San Bernardino Counties, 50 miles east of the Pacific Ocean.) If this is a story about meth, we have many stories of the carnage without mentioning the plot to assasinate a presidential candidate. Particularly with so many people clinging to their guns and their meth.
It’s as morbid as telling someone about to take a cross-country airline trip that the US is due for a plane crash.
I read this article with a bit of dread. Here’s my vision of an American nightmare. Come January our nation elects a CFR, Socialist leaning, multi-racial President. Everyone sings and dances at last America is no longer divided. (YEAH RIGHT!) He has one or two years of mediocre service as the commander in chief. After years of left and right vitriol he is assasinated. The social chaos that ensues results in martial law. The powers that be, finally have a catalyst to supplant the U.S. constitution. The last best hope for the world dies.
Thankfully this won’t happen. Thankfully our current pseudo conservative administration has not implemented the tools to destroy America from within. Thank the lord that this is just the ravings of some paranoid internet nut. Thankfully John McCain will win and save us from the doom that is looming. We will wake up and America once again be the city on the hill.
Face it. Neither one of these esteemed gentlemen is going to do what is best for America. Neither one is qualified to lead America to a better place. This is all just MY nightmare though. It could never happen right?

All of our lives have equal value, but I understand having harsher penalties for those who try or succeed in killing candidates or elected officials. Democracy doesn’t exist when assassins vote early.

I’m glad to see the “conservatives” here denounce this person. But there is another story here. And that is, if this was reversed, and someone had a failed plot to Kill President Bush, there would be many blog posts on liberal sights wishing they had succeded.
