Kathy–
Term limits on legislators is a good idea, but it’s never going to happen. I’ve been a supporter of term limits for over two decades. Every time such an amendment is proposed, the legislators drag out that old “changing horses in the middle of the stream” business, and cite Lincoln and Churchill in their defense(never mind that they have put term limits on Lincoln’s office). It isn’t going to get done, and more’s the pity.

What Rep. Hastings said is both slanderous and just plain WRONG. It is bigotry and hate speech of the worst kind and clearly has nothing whatsoever to do with anything other than Rep. Hastings disgusting thought processes.

And while it would have been nice if some Dem somewhere had demanded his apology and retraction of such inflammatory hate speech (certainly if he had been a Republican talking that way – it would have been demanded BY REPUBLICANS that he resign forthwith) – clearly that isn’t going to happen.

Why DO the people of his district continue to send him to Congress? Shouldn’t there be a mental health prerequisite?

Constitutional amendment with term limits for senators and congressmen anyone???

This is the only way I can see to fight the long-standing corruption in congress and eradicate the constant campaigning of the “whatever it take to keep my seat” mentality. Then maybe we will elect Americans of all races and both genders on the merit of their desire to actually serve the American people and not their selfish desires for power/prestige.

My term limits proposal:
2 consecutive 6-year terms for senators
3 consecutive 2-year terms for congressman

It seems to me that term limits on the presidency is one of the reasons that corruption has not run rampant in that office. The framers of the constitution clearly wanted to protect this country from the development of a “ruling class.” They also viewed Senators and Congressman as servants who would give up a few to several years of their lives to “serve” in congress and then go back to their families and livelihoods. Unfortunatley, without setting down term limits for our legislators, the very “ruling class” they abhorred is now entrenched.

I’m amazed that the House of Representatives allowed Hastings to be seated. The man is a disgrace. I’m still trying to figure out what he meant by “stripping moose”. I’ve been a hunter for more than forty years, and I’ve never heard that. Perhaps he meant to say gutting or skinning, but I learned long ago to mistrust anything Alcee Hastings says or does. I certainly hope that he didn’t mean making poor moose perform on the runway at a nudie bar!

AMERICANS support less than virtuous people in every area of people activity ESPECIALLY religion and politics, BLACK and WHITE equally. None better or worse than the other.

One day you guys will realize that very few politicians are virtuous, and people, in general, fall in line in that deficiency as well.

But I’ll bet you dollars to donuts none of the blacks elected to Congress on merit have a “D” next to their name.

As far as Alcee Hastings go, this man should still be in prison, not a member of congress.

This is just another example why I loath the Congressional Black Caucus. The so called black leadership in America are nothing more then a bunch of manipulative, lying, loonbats. I guess it never occured to him that blacks and jews are hunters too. Does that mean they hate themselves for being hunters? It’s one thing to have a ridiculous case of the “SPODS” aka Sarah Palin Obsession Disorder Syndrome, but it’s another to try and label her a racist and anti semite simply for being a hunter. What heliotrope is describing is nothing new or different than the way the rest of America already operates..so what’s new?

My point was on his racialist view that when whites approve of something it’s merited. So there is never any favoritism, nepotism, or any other such thing at play that is used as a fulcrum for them validating congressional candidates, executives, or any other vetting process?

It’s not that I don’t wanna understand, it’s just that he should spit it out. It’s not like its going to be that big of a surprise.
