Nothing says “I love you” like a gift certificate from Planned Parenthood.
Available in increments of $25, Planned Parenthood’s certificates are the ideal gift in these tough economic times. Spread joy to the woman in your life who wants to slaughter her bundle of joy.
Help a sister out this Christmas!
Update (12/1): The Washington Times editorializes:
“Women do not need Planned Parenthood for their basic health care. And the vouchers are not lifesaving, they are political instruments of the pro-choice movement. More importantly, contraception and abortion are not forms of ‘health care’: They are lifestyle choices with life-altering consequences.”

Unless you’re running for lives, there is no reason to “stampede” anywhere.
May I be blunt? Anybody who stampedes a store trying to get to sales items is an idiot, a complete and total idiot. If you stampeded or plan to stampede a store today, you’re an idiot, a complete and total idiot.
Must I really explain why?

I’m thankful for:
- A loving God whose grace is abundant. He is exceedingly merciful, and I’ll be eternally grateful;
- A loving family, without whom I’d be lost in this indifferent world;
- Having been born in America, land of the free, home of the brave.
Let’s gather together and ask the Lord’s blessing…

Sometimes I wonder how much easier life would be if I weren’t a Christian.
I could, without a conscience or knowledge of the great and terrible truth of the wrath to come, do and say things I’m ashamed to do or say now. I could walk to the beat of my own drum and worship a god of my own making, as I once did. I could craft my own salvation plan, as unbelievers do, and call myself a good person because the “good” I do outweighs the bad.
I feel limited as a Christian, because I know unbelievers are always watching, waiting for me to display “un-Christian” behavior and attitudes. For instance, a homosexual e-mailed to say that last post I wrote was “sneering.” He’s right. And I meant every single word of it.
Is sneering a sin? Is sarcasm an abomination before God? Is disgust wrong? The Bible teaches that Christians should be disgusted by sin, especially our own. If I’ve got a plank in my own eye, I must remove it first. I’m still learning how to distinguish sinful anger from righteous indignation.
How do I express myself about these things without being overly harsh? Yes, I’m aware that my tone is sometimes harsh, but I try to say it as plainly as I see it. In fact, I’m exercising a lot of restraint when I blog about things that make me angry. A lot of restraint. No telling what I’d say if I disregarded my conscience, which would eat me alive later, or the shame that would overwhelm me.
God has been merciful to restrain me.
There’s a lot of work to be done, Christians. I want to be effective for the kingdom, not a hindrance to it. People will refuse to hear or accept the truth. They’ll mock us, sneer at us, and even try to harm us. That doesn’t mean we return evil for evil or anger for anger. I’ve accepted my calling to use my writing talents, how ever great or small, to share the Gospel. And I’m preparing for the season when he sends me to hostile places to speak to people, face to face. If you’re a Christian reading this blog, please pray for me…and for one another.

Update II (11/20 @ 12:19 p.m.): I need to get my thoughts together before I blog about this mess. Unbelievable.
Update (11/19 @ 3:15 p.m.): Here we go again. The California Supreme Court, which nullified a 2000 law that banned homosexual “marriage” earlier this year, agreed today to hear arguments on whether a similar ban passed by 52 percent of California voters on November 4 is unconstitutional.
However, the court refused to issue a stay on the ban. In other words, the law stands. Homosexuals cannot “marry” in California. Did you know homosexuals are afforded rights, benefits, and all the rest under domestic partnership laws? That’s not enough. It betrays their true intent, doesn’t it?
A hearing on the matter is scheduled for next March.

Oh, how I wish my name were on this list. Blacklist me! Blacklist me!
Traditional marriage defenders, patronize the businesses listed. Call them up and say “Thank you!” If you know the individuals who gave, do the same.
Man, I should have donated cash for the cause. I’ll pretend:

When I want to clear my mind of politics, I let it drift toward ideas like Christian/biblical speculative fiction.
As you know, unless you’re living in a cave, the movie “Twilight” hits theaters this Friday. The movie’s based on the first book of a four-book young adult series written by Stephenie Meyer, a married Mormon mother of three, about a family of “young” vampires that feeds on animals instead of people. Heartthrob (no pun intended) vampire Edward Cullen falls for the teenaged Bella Swan, a sort of ugly duckling whose blood is exactly Edward’s “brand.” When he first meets her, he’s torn between loving her and wanting to kill her.
Females spanning the age range have devoured (no pun intended) these books. I myself, that is, me, personally speaking, was curious about the hoopla. Last year I succumbed and bought Twilight. It was a decent read, though not as intricately plotted or as fascinatingly fantastical as J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter books. I couldn’t get through the second book, New Moon, and I didn’t bother with three and four, Eclipse and Breaking Dawn. Rowling’s books are much better written, and I devoured and recommend all seven.

It’s about 50 degrees in DC (former home) right now. Not bad.
But it’s 86 degrees in SoCal (new home). Clear, balmy, and slightly breezy. In the middle of November. I officially don’t know how to act. I like winter: the ice and snow (yeah, I know…strange), frigid, overcast mornings, clothes layering, hats, gloves…
But I’m loving this. Check out my view:

Bye!

Probably.
I remember when President George Bush pledged $15 billion to help reduce AIDS in Africa. I wasn’t too pleased. I’m hardly ever pleased about the government sending billions of dollars.
Close to 25 percent of that money goes to groups that promote abstinence outside marriage and fidelity within marriage. The policy prohibited aid to organizations that counseled for and performed abortions, with the usual “rape, incest, or woman’s health” exception. (I don’t hold to such exceptions.)
Focusing on abstinence has paid off in countries like Uganda, where the AIDS rate has decreased from 15 percent to five percent. In Kenya, HIV infection rates among unmarried young adults have dropped by two-thirds. Why? Because they curbed an activity we Bible thumpers call fornication. Well, that’s what God calls it.

Thursday, November 13: DragonLady writes:
“So, a few years ago, I started blogging. 2004? Must have been since it was before the Bush/Kerry election, and that’s what really got me into blogging in the first place. It was via Michelle Malkin that I discovered La Shawn Barber. La Shawn didn’t just write about politics, though. She wrote (and still does) about her Christian faith. She has often broached subjects from a Christian viewpoint that I didn’t necessarily want to hear. She got me to open up my Bible, and the more I opened it, the more I knew I needed to get back into church, not so much for me, but for the kids. They need that stable and positive influence in their lives just like I did.
…
“So anyway, what I had intended to do was to email La Shawn, and thank her for starting that ball rolling again in my life. But after yesterday’s post (that she trackbacked back to me), I thought I would make that thank you public. Thank you, La Shawn, for being so open with your faith. It was that openness that was the beacon I needed to get back on the ’strait’ and “narrow’ road that I had strayed from.”
This was the Lord’s doing; It is marvelous in his eyes.

There aren’t enough hours in the day to deal with all this stuff.
Reading this Newsweek story for a Pajamas Media TV segment I’m taping in an hour tomorrow, one paragraph stopped me cold (emphasis added):
“If this week’s exit polls tell us anything about religion, they remind us that there are tens of millions of voters in this country who believe in God, read their Scripture, pray, regularly attend a house of worship—and do not consider themselves born-again Christians.”
OK. For the record, there is no such thing as a Christian who has not been born again. To say you believe in God, go to church every Sunday, etc., doesn’t mean you’re a Christian. People worship all kind of gods and go to church for various reasons. The questions is, is Christ your Lord and Savior? If someone has been forgiven, he has been born again, no matter what cultural or social connotations the term born again (white fundamentalist Bible-thumpers?) has been burdened with. Those saved by grace through faith in Christ understand what the term means biblically.

In a story ABC News is trying to report as a mere burglary* gone bad, four black Marines brutally murdered an interracial couple. Marine Sgt. Jan Pawel Pietrzak and his wife Quiana Jenkins-Pietrzak were bound and gagged, tortured (the wife raped), and both shot in the head.
Two of the thugs were under the husband’s command. More about the story here and here.
You don’t need a high IQ to figure out what happened based on the reported facts. The animals murdered the couple because they resented Pietrzak for a number of obvious reasons, which I don’t need to state here. I believe the intent was to violate the woman and kill both. Ransacking the place for valuables was an afterthought.
Speaking of IQ, how did these imbeciles get into the Marine Corps? They murdered two people, took some stuff, and hid it in their barracks. And they thought they’d get away with it? Their seething resentment and envy apparently was strong enough to overwhelm common sense. Now, they’re going to die (hopefully!) or spend their lives locked up. Was it worth it?
I hope all four are found guilty and sentenced to death. Poison in the veins, frying, hanging – whatever they do to enlisted men who murder. It is my wish that before the state executes them, some of their fellow thug-prisoners bound, gag, and torture them in the same manner the men appeal to God for forgiveness.
(Hat tip: Vdare)

*Let's lay it on the table and acknowledge it. If the husband and wife were both black and the murderers white, ABC News and other news outlets would have cried "hate crime," regardless of what the police or the suspects claimed.

“Keep that blog going!” John MacArthur said after signing my Bible and adding the citation Joshua 1:8:
“This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.”
I met him last night at Grace Community Church’s evening service, where he preached about putting on the whole armor of God, beginning at Ephesians 6:10. I was surprised then glad he didn’t change his morning or evening sermons to factor in the election. He continued preaching on the series’ he began weeks ago.
It was a big deal for me meeting John MacArthur. Non-Christians won’t get it, and neither will Christians of certain denominations. But this Reformed Christian still carries around and studies from her 10-year-old MacArthur Study Bible, New King James version. In fact, I told MacArthur the story behind it. Years ago, my Bible-believing youngest sister guilt-tripped me into buying it (at which point Pastor MacArthur shook her hand). I wasn’t a Christian then, and it remained on my coffee table for a year still wrapped in its plastic packaging.
