Very useful! That’s what I’m talking about. Quite important stuff they’re doing. Life-changing ideas, indeed, sure to advance colored people. Keep up the good work.

Update (7/15): BHO tells black parents they need to turn off the idiot box. Dream on. Ain’t gonna happen. He adds:

“I know some say I’ve been too tough on folks about this responsibility stuff. But I’m not going to stop talking about it. Because I believe that in the end, it doesn’t matter how much money we invest in our communities, or how many 10-point plans we propose, or how many government programs we launch—none of it will make any difference if we don’t seize more responsibility in our own lives.”

I say the same thing and get called a “self-hater.” Perhaps BHO will have better luck. After all, he is their Messiah!

Then again, people like blaming others and pointing fingers away from self. Raising standards for yourself is too hard, too much work. As far as they’re concerned, “racism” is the sickness, and more government programs, with a heaping helping of misplaced guilt, are the cures. I could go on and on in this vein, but I’d only be repeating myself. I’ve been saying this for four years. It’s boring now. Check out the archives if you want to read more.

3:04 p.m. PDT: Whenever I hear a man apologize for telling the truth because some idiotic group puts pressure on him, I want to vomit.

But I won’t be retching today.

Pat McCrory, the mayor of Charlotte, North Carolina, wrote that too many black youth were imitating the gangster lifestyle in their behavior and dress, a true statement. (Charlotte Observer) McCrory noted that 60 percent of Charlotte’s gang members are black.

A local chapter of the long irrelevant NAACP was in an uproar over the statement. The president of the local branch said McCrory had painted “African American youth with a broad swath that cuts deep in many of our communities” and “demanded” an apology. McCrory has refused. Why?

“Because my comments were accurate. Period,” he said.

That’s a gentlemanly way of saying, “Kiss my a**.”

Too many black “youth” eschew education and decent living, while embracing a lifestyle that glorifies criminal activity, triflingness (yes, there’s such a word), and having illicit and zero-responsibility sex with as many women as possible. The resultant children are sentenced to fatherless homes and instability. That, too, makes me sick to my stomach.

But daring to name a thing is worst than being the thing, in this twisted society.

Blacks cannot complain about what white people may or may not be doing to them when they don’t even care about their own children. I’ve lost patience with it, and I advise everybody — no matter what color you are — to stop being afraid of the truth or of black people making demands. Take it from an insider: the bark, as loud and annoying as it is, is much worse than the bite.

Kudos to Mayor McCrory for telling the truth and refusing to take it back. I hope he stands his ground.

A Charlotte Observer reader responds: “As the African American mother of a son, I take no offense at the mayor’s statement. Let’s face it, he has simply brought to the front the language and behavior we have allowed our children to adopt. Instead of attacking the mayor, let’s attack the problem. Our African American youth need our help.”

If you plan on joining the NAACP, you’d better check your brain at the door.

Unless you’re ranting about so-called “great issues of racism, politics, social calamities, health crisis’s (sic), war and peace,” don’t bother having, let alone expressing, a negative opinion about another black person. Follow the script, and you won’t be called out and emasculated even more than you already are as people apologize on your behalf as though you were a child instead of a grown man.

A man named J. Whyatt Mondesire, president of the NAACP’s Philadelphia chapter, wrote, in so many words, that Philadelphia Eagles quarterback god Donovan McNabb was overrated. Mondesire’s fellow dinosaurs in the NAACP hit the proverbial roof. (See the press release)

Be warned. Mondesire’s column is atrocious; it contains grammatical errors, incomplete sentences, etc. Standards in just about every area of life have fallen very low in the past generation, and “excellence” is an archaic concept. Consequently, if we were to ignore Mondesire’s column for those reasons, we may as well stop reading altogether. It’ll be a struggle, but try to get through the whole column. An excerpt:

The pressure, the hype, the clock–they all just converged and your nerve collapsed under their combined weight. Mediocre isn’t horrible in and of itself. Most of us don’t live up to our dreams. It’s when we fake it that most of the rest of us get irritated.

So, for you to continue to deny we [the word should be "us"] fans (as well as yourself) one of the strongest elements of your game by claiming that “everybody expects black quarterbacks to scramble” not only amounts to a breach of faith but also belittles the real struggles of black athletes who’ve had to overcome real racial stereotypcasting [A new word you just made up should be in quotation marks] in addition to downright segregation.

First, I wonder if the Philadelphia Sunday Sun has editors. If not, I’d be willing to help out if they could meet my hourly rate.

Second, the NAACP shouldn’t apologize for what Mondesire said about god McNabb. They ought to prostrate themselves for appointing a man with such terrible writing skills to the position of chapter president! This is today’s dinosaur-like NAACP. They complain about Mondesire’s column for the most imbecilic of reasons, yet they’re not embarrassed at all that such a poorly-written piece by one of their members saw the light of day and is still getting so much press. As I’ve said many times on this blog, the NAACP is long past its prime.

Third, who really cares what some NAACP hack says about god McNabb? We all know the Eagle is off-limits to criticism, and what a small-time bad writer has to say isn’t important, is it? McNabb can do what he wants and say what he wants, and you’d better not “go there” by daring to express an opinion about him or his game. The castrated Mondesire has learned his lesson, I’m sure, and he’ll be sufficiently muted next time.

The National Association for the “Advancement” of Colored People has no room for independent thinking or concern about high educational standards. But criticizing other black folks (excluding black conservatives) or snubbing one of their fancy dinners will lead to your figurative crucifixion.

A local NAACP chief in Orange County, Florida, has bucked tradition and joined the Republican party. It’s business, he says. Throw it in the pan and watch it sizzle!

From the Orlando Sentinel:

Ninety percent of those I do business with are Republicans,” he said. “Opportunities that have come to my firm have been brought by Republicans.”

To that, Shea responded: “I’m a little confused. Are we talking about the National Association for the Advancement of Construction Professionals — or Colored People?”

Wallace elaborated that his “business” line of thought also referred to the NAACP. Behind many of the power desks in this town sit Republicans. And he said he wants his organization to be part of that structure. Just as importantly, he said, he didn’t want people to immediately brand — or dismiss — NAACP concerns as synonymous with those of liberal Democrats. “I want this branch to be respected,” he said.

More power to Mr. Wallace, although he should have opted to become an independent. Some black folks have a psychological barrier in the brain when it comes to the GOP. Psychological slavery, if you ask me.

A deep and abiding love for the “rob Peter to feed, clothe, house, and entertain Paul” party suppresses otherwise normal brain functioning. In fact, anyone of average intelligence knows that it’s better to make your own way in this world through perseverance (a character-building activity) than rely on Big Daddy Government for sustenance. He that giveth can also taketh away. And give it to someone else.

Never overestimate the intelligence of the average person.

At a march to commemorate the Voting Rights Act of 1965 last Saturday, Belafonte went on a tirade, calling black Republicans tyrants and likened the Bush Administration to Nazis. A few years ago on “Larry King Live,” he called Colin Powell a house slave.

I suppose it doesn’t matter what Hollywood has-beens have to say, but it’s sad to know that ranting against conservatives is how they generate publicity these days. Sad, indeed.

Julian “Recycler” Bond, an NAACP has-been, goes on annual rants against Republicans, whom he calls “American Taliban.” His political party is powerless and aimless, and his career-making organization is a dinosaur that doesn’t have the dignity to die. All Bond has left are his yearly, blood pressure-raising speeches at NAACP conventions about “evil” Republicans. If that’s how you want to go out, Julian, knock yourself out.

Speaking of knock-out, if and when I want to hear what Harry Belafonte has to say, I’ll just watch one of his old movies.

The social club liberals at the NAACP thought they were above the law. Well, there is no such thing as skin color entitlements when it comes to the IRS and its rules against political activity:

The Internal Revenue Service followed “established procedures” in deciding which tax-exempt entities to investigate for possible improper involvement in last year’s political campaign, and there is no evidence that the agency’s decisions were politically motivated, according to an inspector general’s report released yesterday.

The IRS attracted headlines last fall when the NAACP announced that the agency was threatening to revoke its tax-exempt status because its chairman, Julian Bond, had given a speech attacking the Bush administration.

Bond called the IRS investigation “Nixonian,” and the civil rights group has since said it would not cooperate with the probe. (Source)

Julian Bond is a lifelong rabble-rousing activist, so he certainly knows how “non-profits” are supposed to work. If he doesn’t and he’s reading my blog, see this paragraph:

Under the law, certain types of groups, including charities and educational institutions, are exempt from federal income tax. These organizations, known as 501(c) (3) groups, after the tax-code section conferring the exemption, are barred from engaging in political campaigns, making political contributions, or engaging in activities that may be beneficial or detrimental to a particular candidate.

The law is clear. Perhaps it’s not always applied as efficiently and consistently as it should, but all parties involved have fair notice.

Chris Muir of Day By Day contacted me last month about doing this strip, way before I knew who Eason Jordan was, but he integrated the scandal with the NAACP idea I came up with. Can you imagine me as head of the NAACP? That fossil-like organization is running on empty. It should be put out of its misery already. Kind of sad, though.

As with all things, I’ve blogged many times about the NAACP. Check the Dinosaurs category. An excerpt from the first post:

Oh, how the mighty have fallen! From it’s beginning in 1909 through the Civil Rights movement, the NAACP fought legal battles for equal justice, protested and spoke out against discrimination at the voting booths, schoolhouse…you name the place, they’ve been there.

Today’s NAACP gave Bill Clinton an Image Award for “improving the lives of blacks during his eight years in office.” This was after he was impeached by the U.S. House of Representatives for lying under oath and obstructing justice. Nice image.

Today’s NAACP is a social club for limousine liberals who sit around and plan fancy dinners and dredge up discrimination claims where none exist. Racial discrimination is no longer black America’s biggest problem; it’s the collapse of the family. What are they doing about that?

It’s time for the NAACP to go the way of the dinosaur: extinction.

Can the organization turn itself around and become “relevant” again? Blacks are no longer newly freed slaves in need of leadership to help us navigate the dangerous waves of political participation in a system where our presence was resented and unwanted, and our disenfranchisement legitimized by law. Some people may not want us around now, but we’re here, we’re free, and by law we may take advantage of all the rights of full citizenship.

Frankly, I don’t know what the NAACP needs to do, and I certainly don’t have time to help the liberal social club figure it out.

Left-wing commentators, in Britain as in much of Europe, have focused disproportionately on the difficulties that any state must undergo during a transition process. To many of them, every terrorist bomb, every murdered election official, every sign of heightened military alertness — even the loss of a British aircraft — makes a nonsense of Iraq’s democratic aspirations. (Source)

Substitute Britain and British with America and American, and the paragraph applies to leftists in the United States as well.

The Iraq election is now a part of history. Over 70 percent of the electorate turned out. In our lifetimes we’ve seen the fall of a brutal dictator under the watch of a vilified and hated American president. But even the New York Times (reg. req.) had to concede that election day in Iraq was a success:

Courageous Iraqis turned out to vote yesterday in numbers that may have exceeded even the most optimistic predictions. Participation varied by region, and the impressive national percentages should not obscure the fact that the country’s large Sunni Arab minority remained broadly disenfranchised – due to alienation or terror or both. But even in some predominantly Sunni areas, turnout was higher than expected. And in an impressive range of mainly Shiite and Kurdish cities, a long silenced majority of ordinary Iraqis defied threats of deadly mayhem to cast votes for a new, and hopefully democratic, political order….

This page has not hesitated to criticize the Bush administration over its policies in Iraq, and we continue to have grave doubts about the overall direction of American strategy there. Yet today, along with other Americans, whether supporters or critics of the war, we rejoice in a heartening advance by the Iraqi people. For now at least, the multiple political failures that marked the run-up to the voting stand eclipsed by a remarkably successful election day.

Aside from this editorial, I won’t be linking to news stories. The biased headlines tell you all you need to know about MSM’s coverage of the elections. But if you must read the stories, do so with delight as jaded leftist journalists try to spin the overwhelmingly positive news coming out of Iraq into something negative. They’re so predictable, it’s boring.

The rule of partisan politics, at least where the left is concerned, is that whatever your opponent is for, you must come out against. That’s why the liberal blogosphere was either silent yesterday or overwhelmingly negative. In that regard, I won’t hold my breath as I wait for a group like the NAACP to release a positive press release (for a change) about the elections.

Speaking of the NAACP, last year in Watch Out For Jim Crow, I blogged about this fossil-like relic of the past and a ridiculous report they threw together called The Long Shadow of Jim Crow (PDF). The absurdly dramatic title produced unintended laughs as I flipped through the “report.” I thought to myself, “Groups like the NAACP reinforce the stereotype that blacks are low achievers.” This is only one of many reasons I’m embarrassed by them. Blacks are held to a lower standard, and dreck like that report is partially to blame.

While people are literally losing their heads over the cause of freedom, the NAACP’s limousine liberals living high on the government hog are planning their next social event, but not before adding a little racial hysteria to the mix for good measure. With exaggerated or straight up false claims of “voter intimidation,” the NAACP is a joke.

Iraqis, threatened by throat-cutting Islamofacists, still managed to vote. Yet the NAACP regards blacks as impotent children incapable of casting a simple ballot for fear of the white man at the polls. (The butterfly is so confusing!) You can’t punch a simple hole on a simple ballot? Try it with no fingers or hands or arms, for crying out loud. That’s disenfranchisement.

Pictured are the NAACP’s ranting chairman, Julian Bond and former president Kweisi Mfume. That’s all I have to say. Making fun of the NAACP is not as fun as it used to be. It’s just sad.

Surprisingly, they spoke out against the juvenile hosts of a black radio station after they made some bone-headed remarks about the tsunami victims. When the NAACP actually does something useful, which isn’t often, it should be noted.
——————————————————————————————————–

Iraq election coverage around the blogosphere: Arthur Chrenkoff, Day By Day…

Classic Scappleface: “We use that word ‘terrorist’ to marginalize and demonize people whose way of expressing ideas is culturally different from ours,” said Mr. Kerry. “But when a man takes up the scimitar to behead an innocent civilian, or straps on the exploding vest for a walk through the marketplace, he’s just passionately stating his philosophy. Who are we to judge his methods?”

Update: Speaking of the NAACP, go read Black Taliban. A new black conservative in the blogosphere. I like it.

<img hspace="10" src="/images/eohgrey2h_01.jpg" style=float:left;" alt="Hutchinson" />Earl Ofari Hutchinson, who I seldom agree with, writes another column I don’t agree with. Well, I agree with a few points. In spite of himself, he touches upon something I can relate to: 1) serving all people and 2) the need to find common ground.

Despite the lunacy about Florida voter intimidation and Bush “hijacking” the White House in 2000, it’s fairly readable. Read on (reg. req. — try Bugmenot):

IN HIS VICTORY speech, President Bush again assured the millions of Americans who did not vote for him that he’d reach out to them, too. Black voters, who again made up a big share of those millions, remain deeply skeptical. There’s good reason.

Mr. Bush repeatedly promised before and during his first campaign that he’d make diversity the watchword among Republicans. But his idea of outreach meant meeting with hand-picked black ministers, farmers and business owners and deliberately snubbing the Congressional Black Caucus and the traditional civil rights leaders.

He goes on about Bush’s photo ops with blacks, something Democrats have perfected to an art form, and his refusal to speak at the dinosaur NAACP’s convention. Among other things, the chairman called the Bush administration the “Taliban wing” of American politics. Very inviting.

Hutchinson continues:

Mr. Bush, even if he didn’t say it, was elected to serve not just those who voted for him but all the people. He is duty-bound to keep trying to reach out to those blacks who oppose him. When and if he does, civil right leaders and black Democrats must reach back to him. The reality is that Mr. Bush, not Sen. John Kerry, will be in the White House, and the issues that blacks expect and demand Mr. Bush to deal with won’t go away.

1) Bush was elected to serve all. Hutchinson is exactly right. But does serving all people mean Bush is duty-bound to make racial distinctions among Americans? Is he duty-bound to reach out to foes who slander and libel him daily? Serving all does not mean pandering to and placating a bunch of irrational race extortionists. I have no idea where Hutchinson gets these ideas, but no such presidential duty is found in U.S. Constitution.

2) The need to find common ground: “The trick is to find those issues that both sides can agree on…,” writes Hutchinson. I agree with the idea, but his application of it is misguided. Serving all means finding common issues that are important to all, not just black voters.

For instance, he lists a number of issues “both sides can agree on”, including concern about the high percentage of HIV infection among blacks. AIDS affects other racial groups as well, so why the emphasis on blacks? This is what bothers me about skin color targeting. And while funding AIDS research is important, emphasizing moral behavior and clean living is even more important in bringing down the numbers, but black radicals and hardcore liberals don’t want to hear it, at least not from Bush. (Just give me the money and keep your morality.)

Next Hutchinson lists school vouchers: “Vouchers would drain billions from cash-strapped failing public schools and doom those black students left behind to virtual educational extinction. Black leaders should urge Mr. Bush to abandon them.”

Wrong, wrong, wrong, Mr. Hutchinson! That’s alarmist talk. First of all, black kids are already doomed in failing government schools run by socialist (and a few Marxist) bureaucrats. They know how to negotiate condoms and cucumbers, but they can’t read!

Secondly, some, if not many, voucher plans use dedicated sources of funding, including the voucher program here in D.C. Government schools will continue receiving their allocated taxpayer dollars. In fact, whether parents send their kids to private schools or opt for homeschooling, they must continue funding government-run schools. Parents participating in voucher plans still pay taxes, too. Believe me, America’s government schools are the safest on the planet! They devour money and produce a shoddy product. What if these schools had to compete on the market? Most would end up with “Out of Business” signs hanging on the doors.

And since Hutchinson brought up extinction, imagine what would happen if parents were required to pay taxes for government schools only if their kids were enrolled. Perhaps then I’d pay attention to his ominous warnings about “extinction.” Black kids in inner cities would truly be doomed as more kids and their parents fled to private schools.

Why black liberals want to protect a substandard school system, which disproportionately harms black children, is a mystery I’ll take to my grave.

Update: Also see my post about one of Hutchinson’s other columns, GOP’s Rainbow Coalition Is For Real. I think I agreed with the whole thing. He’s getting there!

Update II (11/15): I submitted this as a guest post on Blogs for Bush.

“You are guilty, guilty, guilty. You’re as guilty as Bush and Cheney. You’re as guilty as Rumsfeld and Ashcroft and Powell…,” the man states…

“People of America, that was the verdict now for the sentencing: as participants and partners in the crimes of the regime, you too shall pay the price for the blood that has been spilled.”

Perhaps if enough people get angry about cheap stunts like this, they’ll understand why terrorists name the Bush administration in these absurd videos: Bush is doing the job of preventing more terrorist attacks on U.S. soil and vows to keep fighting on our terms.

Just a thought…

I’m sure this is old news by now, but some idiot working for the dinosaur-like NAACP gave a man crack cocaine to fill out 100 voter registration forms in Ohio.

While the dinosaurs are trying to scare people with moronic tales of the return of Jim Crow at the voting booths, they’re scraping the bottom of the barrel for John Kerry voters, real or imagined. Real classy.

According to the Toledo Blade (anything like the Washington Blade?):

Chad Staton, 22, of Stratton Ave., faces a fifth-degree felony charge of false registration after sheriff’s deputies said he filled out the registration forms by himself — using either fictitious names or addresses — and gave them to Georgianne Pitts, 41.

Toledo police searched Ms. Pitts’ home and discovered drug paraphernalia along with more voter registration forms. Police said that Ms. Pitts admitted to paying Mr. Staton in crack cocaine, in lieu of cash.

Ms. Pitts, working on behalf of the NAACP National Voter Fund, submitted the forms to the voter fund, which in turn submitted them to the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections….

Ms. Pitts told police she had been recruited to obtain voter registration forms by Thaddeus J. Jackson II, of Cleveland, who is coordinating the Toledo area’s voter registration drive for the NAACP voter drive.

When contacted by The Blade this afternoon, Mr. Jackson said that Ms. Pitts was a “volunteer,” but said he had no knowledge of any fraudulent voter registration forms. He declined to comment further.

I also heard about the 1960s-style fireman-hosing-a-black-man flyer put out by the liberals, but I tried to ignore it. Michelle Malkin posted something on it. By the way, did you know it was DEMOCRATS who turned the hoses and dogs on blacks? I wonder if that information is on the flyer. The Democrats and their whole legion are imbeciles.

Links: I thought my “Crack the Vote” title was clever, but everybody’s using it. Blogs for Bush and Generation Why? are two. Backcountry Conservative and Captain’s Quarters comment of the cocaine caper. Speaking of crack, it seems I’m not the only one in this town embarrassed by the return of Marion Barry (Michael King).

Update: Rightwingsparkle has done the kind of “voter disenfranchisement” analysis that I planned to do but couldn’t find the time. Now I don’t have to write one! Check it out.

Update II: I am so paranoid about typos. Someone thought this was a typo (thanks for calling it out): “Blogs for Bush and Generation Why? are two.” Two is not misspelled. They are two (2) of the bloggers using the crack post title.

I don’t know about you, but I’m loving the infighting going on at CBS. The insidous leftist bent has finally caught up with the old dinosaurs in real-time, and I’m enjoying every hour of it.

Everybody’s trying to put the blame on somebody else. And Dan Rather had to be forced to admit the documents might be fakes, but he still hasn’t said this:

“It is true. I don’t like George Bush and I wanted to send him back to Texas. I knew the documents were questionable, but in my zeal, I resorted to dirty tricks. I’m so ashamed for presenting to the American public forged documents. I have no excuse. Although my career ended decades ago, I’m still trying to hold on to a remnant of the past: The domination of my beloved leftist media. We had a good run, didn’t we boys? Anyway…America, I humbly beg your forgiveness.”

You think? Let’s go to the story:

A war of words has erupted within the halls of “60 Minutes” following Dan Rather’s admission that CBS News aired a report on President Bush using questionable documents.

On one side of the battle is Steve Kroft, a veteran correspondent on the Sunday edition of “60 Minutes.” On the other is Don Hewitt, founder of the pioneering newsmagazine.

Kroft argues it’s unlikely the Sunday show would have made the mistake of using the documents that bolstered Rather’s report – which aired on the Wednesday telecast, formerly known as “60 Minutes II.”

So much so, Kroft and staffers on the Sunday telecast want it to be clear — they weren’t the ones that were duped.

Too little, too late, Kroft. I don’t know about you, but I’m not letting the network wiggle off the hook that easily. If it hadn’t been Dan Rather, some other “journalist” at CBS would’ve picked it up. You can make book on that.

In another delightful story, we read:

Across the country, CBS affiliates continued to be bombarded with mail from viewers expressing their outrage over Dan Rather in particular and the journalistic debacle in general. Affiliate board is sure to take up the subject at its next meeting, set for Oct. 5.

“Some people broke the cardinal rule and screwed us all,” one “60 Minutes” veteran said Tuesday.

I’ll concede. That local affiliates have to reap what Rather has sown is unfair, but Rather is getting what he deserves. Unfortunately, his colleagues have to suffer, the same way we’ve suffered his transparent liberal bias all these years. Such is life!

Throughout the day, CBS News prexy Andrew Heyward [who should be fired] and others worked to appoint members to an independent review panel that will dissect the circumstances leading to the decision to air documents pertaining to President Bush’s service in the Air National Guard….

So far, no one at CBS News has been fired. Industryites don’t believe Rather will resign over the flap, but they concede the final chapter is far from written.

I don’t know about you, but I think bloggers have already written it.

***

Allahpundit post a funny pic of Dan Rather. More on the independent panel at Wizbang.

Malkin mentions an interesting e-mail auction. Check out Bainbridge’s comment.

Update (8/17/04): Check out Duane’s ambulance. Hilarious!

…roars the dinosaur, also known as the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP). But they barely manage a squeak.

These limousine liberals with no important work left to do just released a “special report,” ominously titled, “The Long Shadow of Jim Crow: Voter Intimidation and Suppression in America Today” (PDF). Talk about hyperbole! The NAACP ought to be ashamed.

First of all, why is it always black voters who are “intimidated?” Why not white women or Asians or…sorry, I forgot. Blacks are victimized and still suffering from the “legacy of slavery,” so I guess we’re a little jumpy.

The overview begins this way:

In a nation where children are taught in grade school that every citizen has the right to vote, it would be comforting to think that the last vestiges of voter intimidation, oppression and suppression were swept away by the passage and subsequent enforcement of the historic Voting Rights Act of 1965. It would be good to know that voters are no longer turned away from the polls based on their race, never knowingly misdirected, misinformed, deceived or threatened.

Unfortunately, it would be a grave mistake to believe any of it.

In every national American election since Reconstruction, every election since the Voting Rights Act was passed, voters — particularly African American voters and other minorities — have faced calculated and determined efforts at intimidation and suppression. The bloody days of violence and retribution following the Civil War and Reconstruction are gone. The poll taxes, literacy tests and physical violence of the Jim Crow era have disappeared. Today, more subtle, cynical and creative tactics have taken their place.

OK.

In the opening of the 25-page report, the NAACP lists what’s presumably their strongest examples of “Jim Crow” voter intimidation”:

In 2004 in Texas, students at a majority black college were challenged by a local district attorney;s absurd claim that they were not eligible to vote in the county where the school was located. It happened in Waller County — the same county where 26 years earlier, a federal court order was required to prevent the local registrar from discriminating against the students.

Where do I begin? First of all, a group of black college students marching en masse to the courthouse to protest against “disenfranchisement” as if this were still the 1960s? Wake me up when it’s over!

Second, college students across the country of any race have to deal with residency issues at one point or another (see examples here, here and here [registration req.]). It’s about residency requirements, not “voting intimidation” against blacks students.

Moving on:

In 2003 in Philadelphia, voters in African American areas were systematically challenged by men carrying clipboards, driving a fleet of some 300 sedans with magnetic signs designed to look like law enforcement insignia.

For this example, the NAACP cites this article on American Prospect, which I had to dig up because no date or article title was listed in the report.

Read it for yourselves. All it amounted to was Republicans and Democrats in Philadelphia aggressively trying to register voters. I plan to contact the Philadelphia GOP to find out the real deal about the “300 sedans” and signs that looked like “law enforcement insignia” because frankly, I don’t believe the NAACP’s rendition.

But for entertainment purposes, let’s say the dinosaur’s version is true. Why would blacks in particular be intimidated by men with “law enforcement insignia?” What is the subtext?

Here’s another example of “Jim Crow” voter intimidation:

In 2002 in Louisiana, flyers were distributed in African American communities telling voters they could go to the polls on Tuesday, December 10th — two days after a special Senate election [of Senator Mary Landrieu] was held.

Is the NAACP implying that the Louisiana GOP tried to trick voters in predominantly black neighborhoods into showing up on the wrong day? Even if true (and I hope it’s not), does it rise to the level of state-imposed skin color segregation, for crying out loud? Can’t black voters call around to find out if and when an election has been rescheduled? Apparently not.

Again, inquiries must be made to get the full story.

In 2000 in Florida, thousands of voters whose names mistakenly appeared on a flawed list of felons were purged from the state’s voter rolls. Despite the ensuing outcry and litigation, the state has not yet restored the rights of many of those voters — and in fact has begun a new purge of an additional 40,000 names for the 2004 election.

Is this about the 2000 presidential election again? Good grief. Is the dinosaur implying that the “thousands of voters” were mostly black? If that were the case, I’m sure they would’ve stated so in the report, which they don’t. Keep in mind, these are the NAACP’s strongest examples of the return of Jim Crow.

The NAACP manages to get a few things right about the history of real voter intimidation in the rest of the report. But these limousine liberals want to give the absurd impression that state-sanctioned segregation and intimidation tactics are alive and well in 2004. Shame, shame, shame! Read a few examples of Jim Crow laws. Do they bear any resemblance to life in America as blacks know it today?

Hat tip: The Other Point of View (Renee is new to the blogosphere, so go on over and make her feel welcome!), who writes:

To sum it up, the entire report is a bunch of incidents “supposedly” of voter intimidation in “African American” and minority communities. Where they could specifically pin-point the incident as being “sponsored” by the GOP or the Republican Party, the party or guilty party is so labeled. There are a great number of incidents listed that are not labeled with a political affiliation (Can you say Democrat/liberal?) Where Republican/GOP is mentioned, the description of the incident infused with more “minority” labels (i.e. Hispanics, Latino, African American). Where no affiliation is listed, is toned done somewhat.

This research took me all of five minutes and cost nothing….Isn’t it about time for the NAACP to start working on “Advancing” someone in need and not wasting the donors money?

Right on, Renee. Ditto to infinity and beyond!
