Happy Friday! I will probably add more links over the course of the day.

Professor Mike S. Adams is a conservative crusader fighting against the tide of rampant liberalism in the University of North Carolina system. See his Townhall.com archives.
He played a huge role in bringing down Elyse Crystall, a liberal professor (and grown woman) at UNC-Chapel Hill who violated a student’s free speech rights. The student, a conservative Christian, called homosexuality “disgusting,” and Crystall ridiculed him and sent e-mails about him to other students! (This is where the “grown woman” part is relevant.)
The Department of Education said that what Crystall did was harassment and discrimination but chose not to fine the school because it satisfactorily rectified the situation.
Adams e-mailed me a few weeks ago after a Google search led him to posts I’d written about him. After I introduced myself, he said something like, “Oh, yeah!” That happened a lot at CPAC. Some of the folks I wanted to meet had either read my blog or heard of me. Even Michael Medved said, “Oh, yeah.”
Is it just me, or are more Christians and conservatives defending themselves publicly and standing firm against the suppression of their views? Or are the mainstream media simply giving us more coverage?
Congressman Walter Jones of North Carolina spoke to the College Republicans at Duke University about real civil rights, as opposed to special rights. From the Herald Sun:
“If you cannot have the freedom to express yourself, and agree or disagree with a professor about an issue, then I’m afraid that academic freedom is in deep trouble,” Jones, R-3rd, told an audience of about 15 in a classroom of the university’s Biological Sciences Building.
Jones, who’s from Farmville, spoke after accepting an award created in his name by the Duke College Republicans.
Second-year Duke law student John Plecnik, the College Republicans’ policy adviser, introduced the Walter B. Jones award, which will be awarded annually to “a politician, professor or protestor who best reflects his legacy” as the “chief defender of campus conservatives across Carolina.”
That a speech given to 15 people received coverage is surprising. That a speech given to 15 Republicans by a conservative Christian received objective coverage is amazing.

For those of you who were reading my blog back in February, you may remember a couple of posts about Elyse Crystall, a liberal professor at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The school is apparently a southern outpost for PC-America.
Mike S. Adams, a conservative and professor at the school (and one of my favorite columnists) skewers liberal academia on a weekly basis in his column for Townhall.com.
Adams exposed Crystall as the raging leftist she is after her attempt to suppress the speech of a conservative student. She also ridiculed him by sending e-mails about the matter to other students! In a class called “Literature and Cultural Diversity”, the student had the nerve to say homosexuality was “disgusting.” I guess the professor doesn’t appreciate cultural “diversity” of ideas, does she?
Crystall wasn’t fired, unfortunately, but she had to apologize. Additionally, a monitor was sent to observe her class for the rest of that semester. I know she hated that. (See these posts for my take on the matter.)
Here’s an update on the situation. The Department of Education said Crystall’s e-mail campaign constituted discrimination and harassment. Because the school handled the situation properly, however, no federal sanctions are forthcoming. Lucky libs!

Kudos to Mike S. Adams for his running commentary on rampant liberalism in public universities. This time he targets UNC-Greensboro, or “UNC-Gomorrah.” Warning: You may feel a bit nauseated after reading the column.
An excerpt:
While talking to the officers, I learned that UNCG is presenting its annual Gay Pride Week in March. Among the many highlights of this special week are a “drag queen day” and a “gay prom.” The university directly funds some of these events. Others are funded by private sources after employees paid by the university have initiated them using various university resources. None are completely free from taxpayer expense.
In response, the CRs [College Republicans] recently tried to organize a Morals Week to coincide with Gay Pride Week. When they tried to get equal funding and support, the university turned them down saying that they wouldn’t fund anything having to do with “morals.”
About two weeks ago, Adams exposed a liberal professor named Elyse Crystall, who tried to silence a student with morals. Crystall’s class is now being monitored by university authorities for the rest of the semester. She must be miserable!

Professor and columnist Mike S. Adams deserves credit for exposing the hypocrisy of a liberal professor for singling out a student for expressing his belief that homosexuality is “disgusting.”
From the Raleigh News & Observer:
In an e-mail message sent Feb. 6 to her “Literature and Cultural Diversity” students, the lecturer, Elyse Crystall, wrote, “[W]hat we heard [T]hursday at the end of class constitutes ‘hate speech’ and is completely unacceptable. [I]t has created a hostile environment.”
Crystall went on to name the student, identified as Tim, and said he was a perfect example of the topic of discussion during class: privilege.
That’s right. In a university classroom where free speech should abound, a student’s right to free speech in a public (taxpayer-supported) university is violated because of his…”white male privilege.”
Not only did the professor have to apologize, but her class is being monitored for the rest of the semester! They’re making sure someone stays in her business. Accountability on this level needs to permeate college campuses across the country. Let’s hope this is a lesson learned.
