…and the media haven’t reported it. What the…?

Every time I hear Barack Obama speak, I’m reminded of the expression, “Like shooting fish in a barrel.” He is the embodiment of it.

His ideas are so incongruous and on-the-fly, I wonder why mainstream media aren’t picking his statements apart. Yes, I know it’s too easy. There’s no challenge in it. Yes, I know mainstream media liberals want him to win. But news organizations report news, and a Democratic candidate advocating a civilian quasi-military security force is news.

On July 2, Obama gave a speech to an audience of what appears to be military veterans. Relevant to this post is this nugget (emphasis added):

“We cannot continue to rely on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives we’ve set. We’ve got to have a civilian national security force that’s just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded.”

Rosanna Pulido: American Patriot

You Dont Speak For Me!Tuesday, February 20: Oh, the joys of diversity!
————————————————————

Commenter Israel writes:

“I think I might be able to answer Shade’s question posted earlier [about why Rosanna Pulido is called a race traitor because she opposes illegal "immigration"]. First of all Shade, I am Hispanic, 53 years old, U.S. born as are my parents (both Hispanic). In my immediate family we still speak, read and write Spanish as a second language and are very proud of the contributions that we as Hispanics have given our country through our culture, heritage, and plain old good citizenship. For example, starting with my father (now 83) in 1945 to the present a total of 26 (and counting) members on my father’s side of the family have served in our country’s armed forces. We have served in virtually every armed conflict since 1945 either through the draft or as volunteers.

“Yep, we still eat tortillas and make tamales at Christmas time. We don’t pretend to be anything other than what we are. Most definitely we are Americans first and thankfully my parents raised us with the belief that the content of a person’s character defined them; being brown and Hispanic was just a matter of circumstance.

“Unfortunately, it is my and my family’s observation that some of our Hispanic brethren choose to define themselves in a mindset that I term: I am Hispanic, therefore I am. I think that this mindset colors everything in those terms and creates a very narrow perspective of one’s experience. These fellow Hispanics create a definition of what it means to be a “Real Hispanic.”

“And so because my family and I view illegal immigration as just that – illegal immigration. We are deemed traitors, Tio Tacos, sellouts, self-haters, you name it by these “Real Hispanics.”

“We don’t speak up publicly, but I assure you that at family gatherings this issue comes up and we vent our anger. Supporters of illegal immigration would not find a warm welcome at our family gatherings.”

busted! No More Raid; Roaches Reportedly Happy

Last month I wrote about the federal government’s raid on Swift & Company, a meatpacking business that knowingly hires illegal aliens in violation of the law. It was showy theatrics that made for good photo ops.

The raid was the result of an identity fraud investigation, a new strategy in the “fight” to curb illegal “immigration.” The feds have decided, apparently, since they can’t round up and deport illegal aliens and penalize companies that hire them, going after select illegal aliens for identity theft is the next best thing.

Well, I can’t argue with that. Even if I did, the effort would be pointless. The United States is not interested in expelling its cheap labor force, an underclass that commits a disproportionate share of crimes and dicatates who can come and go in certain neighborhoods in Los Angeles County.

Having your identity stolen is unpleasant, I’m sure, and getting illegal aliens for identity fraud is killing two birds with one stone.

This morning I found out about a new program called “ICE (which stands for Immigration and Customs Enforcement) Mutual Agreement Between Government and Employers” (IMAGE) via an Associated Press story. (Pet peeve: It’s bad form to use abbreviations and acronyms without writing out the entire name first, which the AP neglected to do.)

It seems the feds are “quietly” trying to “persuade” businesses that hire illegal aliens in violation of the law to “spare” themselves from “embarrassing federal raids” by cooperating and voluntarily handing over employee documents, including employees authorized to work in the U.S. An excerpt from the AP:

Juan WilliamsI’m up to my eyeballs in work, but I wanted to post a couple of quick links this early morning.

First, NPR’s Juan Williams, author of Enough, is still catching it for his “conservative” views, if this op-ed (free reg. req.) is any indication.

In “The Hard Facts of Black America,” he lays out…hard facts. For the privilege, he’s called a turncoat, Uncle Tom, traitor — the usual stuff you’d hear from unimaginative, narrow-minded, limited black folks.

Quoting the 70 percent illegitimacy rate statistic, drop-out rate, poverty rate, prison rate, criminal culture, etc., doesn’t play too well with leftist blacks because of the “dirty laundry” stigma. There’s no stigma against getting knocked up or having served time in prison, but if you talk about how much of it goes on in the black community in front of white people, ostracism and insults, baby.

I’ve learned in my four years of blogging and writing that to name a thing is worse than being the thing. Haven’t figured out how that works yet…

Well, what is the brother doing besides talking and writing about it? What is he doing for his community?, ask the critics.

Talking and writing about these things, pushing them into the public debate, and encouraging people to discuss the issues, think critically, and solve their own problems is a worthy public service, in the opinion of this blogger. Check out my review of his book.

White liberals can be quite the intolerant fools, can’t they?

I didn’t get a chance to blog about the so-called protest against members of the Minuteman Project at Columbia University. The students rushed the stage and attacked Jim Gilchrist, MP founder.

And someone (or more than one) called black Minuteman Marvin Stewart a “nigger.” See “Darky, keep thy place!” I contacted him for an interview. I’ll keep you posted.

Read about Columbia’s latest lunacy, and follow this link to read previous posts about the Minuteman Project.

Much more later. I’m doing something really cool today that I can’t tell you about yet. Stay tuned. ;)

Update (10/13): Lawrence Auster says this about Columbia U’s decision to close an event to the public at the last minute: “So, because leftist students had disrupted a College Republicans event last week, conservative non-students with reservations were closed out of a College Republicans event this week.”

Tell the “disinviter” what you think:

Update II (10/14): LA Times condones violence against the Minuteman Project speakers. Do they advocate slurs, too?

A Nation of Outlaws II

A nation of outlaws, Part II
By La Shawn Barber

Sep 14, 2005

“The federal government has left Herndon on its own.”

Those words spoken by Herndon Planning Commissioner Robert Burk resonate with citizens of Herndon, Virginia, and Americans across the country. As more illegal aliens stream across the border and the federal government continues to ignore the problem, more local governments will be forced to deal with the problem on their own.

In response to illegal aliens loitering around a local 7-Eleven, creating a public nuisance while waiting for off-the-books jobs, the Herndon Town Council approved a plan to build a central location for the “day laborers.” Dennis Husch, a council member who voted against the proposal, described the conditions:

Daily we see up to 150 men seeking work around the intersection of Alabama Drive and Elden Street beginning about 6:30 am every day. That number dwindles to about 75 at 11 am when all of the jobs are taken. For the rest of the day and into the early evening, the men ‘hang-out’ along the street and at the 7-Eleven and socialize.

Unfortunately, the right to loiter is the law of the land. “We have been advised by the Town Attorney that loitering laws are not enforceable based on a ruling of the U.S. Supreme Court,” said Husch. Fortunately, the council’s vote isn’t the final word. There are a few obstacles on the road to the illegal, taxpayer-supported center:

• Legal Action – Judicial Watch, a nonprofit watchdog group, filed suit against the Town of Herndon on behalf of Herndon taxpayers. “Can a town expend taxpayer monies or provide support to facilitate such illegal activities? Of course not,” said president Tom Fitton. “This proposed site is designed to facilitate illegal activity: the illegal hiring of illegal aliens…For the Town Council to recommend this plan would be illegal under federal law. But it would also be illegal under Virginia law.”

Herndon officials obviously know that using public funds to build the day labor center is against the law, but they probably figured if illegal aliens can get away with breaking the law, they can too.

• Zoning Action – Part of the proposed day labor site will be located in Loudoun County. On September 6, the Loudoun County Zoning Administrator ruled that the site would not be an appropriate use of the property, which is zoned as residential. Herndon must apply for a special exemption, but the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors is considering legal action against Herndon.

• Citizen Action – According to the Washington Examiner, the Minuteman volunteers may be headed to Herndon. The Minuteman Project is a group of citizens who stand watch over the borders. If more citizens joined this group and others like Help Save Herndon, they may be able to sway or shame the Herndon Town Council into reversing its decision.

• Emergency Action – The Democratic governors of Arizona and New Mexico, two border states, recently declared states of emergency because of the damage and danger caused by illegal immigration. Virginia isn’t a border state, but local politicians have asked Virginia Gov. Mark Warner to declare a state of emergency. It may be the only way to get the federal government involved in a “local issue.”

We all know illegal immigration enforcement is a federal responsibility and growing national concern. Husch expressed disappointment in his political colleagues’ failure to step forward.

“Herndon was forced to go it alone,” Husch said. “All I can say is, shame on them for their cowardly retreat. True leadership was in their grasp if they had seized the moment.”

One of those colleagues, Herndon Mayor Michael O’Reilly, voted for the day labor center.
Although he acknowledges that illegal immigration is the feds’ responsibility, he’s confused about his own. After Judicial Watch filed its lawsuit, O’Reilly issued this statement:

It is unfortunate that this organization is using the Herndon day worker issue to pursue an agenda to attempt to influence or reform federal immigration policy. Clearly the national immigration issue needs to be handled by Congress and the executive branch and not by small local governments such as Herndon.

Americans have a right to influence government policy and petition the government for redress. Citizens of Herndon elected legislators to write laws and a mayor to execute those laws, and they have the constitutional right – a duty – to complain when those officials shirk those responsibilities.

O’Reilly added: “We strongly urge those interested in the national immigration issue to communicate their questions and concerns to their federal representatives in Congress and the Senate who have the ability to address them.”

I wonder if the mayor followed his own advice before he voted for an illegal enterprise designed to benefit illegal aliens and their illegal employers at taxpayers’ expense in violation of federal law. I guess the buck has to stop somewhere, and Herndon’s mayor wants his constituents to know it doesn’t stop at his office.

Correction: In Part I, I wrote that illegal immigrants “flood across the border at the rate of one million a year.” About half a million illegal aliens enter the U.S. annually.

Thomas Sowell Jim Gilchrist Ted Hayes Tom Tancredo

(These men are what you’d call “enemies” of George Bush. They are vehemently anti-amnesty and fiercely pro-enforcement. Actually, I’m only assuming Thomas Sowell [far left] is “fiercely” pro-enforcement. Next is Minuteman Project co-founder Jim Gilchrist, “Rasta Republican” Ted Hayes, and Rep. Tom Tancredo, a man who should but will never be president of the United States. Honorable mentions: Rep. J.D. Hayworth and Rep. Mike Pence.)

["An estimated 45,000 cases of illegal immigrants from terror-linked countries were released to the American alien frontier between fiscal 2001 and the first five months of 2005."

OH NO, George Bush shouldn't be impeached for his immigration non-enforcement policy. That's absurd, La Shawn. You're crazy, girl. :? ]

[Wednesday, May 24: Part II of Bordering on fraud]

While I try to ignore people telling me how to think and feel about George Bush and his amnesty-for-illegal-aliens scheme, I’ll continue to provide my no-holds-barred commentary. Ironically, some of the same people are regular readers who know my style by now. I don’t go along with Republicans or conservatives (not necessarily the same thing) just because they’re Republicans or conservatives. I focus on principles and ideology.

My loyalty lies with men who put America and its citizens first, before all others. If they can’t do that, they won’t get my support. Period. I hate it when liberals, with their insipid multicultural claptrap, tell me how to think, and I hate it when conservatives do it.

That’s not to say I won’t vote in November. You better believe I’ll vote, but not to prove anything to anyone. I consider voting a duty because blacks who came before me fought and risked their lives so I, their descendant, could do so freely and without fear.

Curious George and the FoxWednesday, May 17: This post is closed. If you want to discuss illegal immigration (a misnomer if I ever heard one!), click over to the latest post.

Update II (5/16 @ 7:07 p.m.): Mexico threatens lawsuits over Guard. Nice.

Sailer: “The future of the GOP lies not with the Hispanic vote but with overlooked middle-class Americans.”

Update (5/16 @ 7:30 a.m.): Polipundit, the anonymous host of the popular group blog of the same name, has issued a new editorial policy to bloggers Lorie Byrd, DJ Drummond, Jayson, and Alexander K. McClure.

Based on the policy (which he briefly explains), Lorie has decided to leave the group blog. From her personal blog:

I received a lengthy email from Polipundit tonight alerting us to an editorial policy change that included the following: “From now on, every blogger at PoliPundit.com will either agree with me completely on the immigration issue, or not blog at PoliPundit.com.”

Apparently Lorie doesn’t agree completely with Polipundit’s position. The illegal immigration issue is potent, and it’s driving a wedge between Republicans and conservative in the blogosphere. Polipundit has every right to make the rules on his blog, so he can’t be faulted for that. I support his decision. (I considered guest bloggers at LBC, and I would have selected conservative Christians whose worldview matched my own.) Yesterday I linked to his El Presidente post and highly recommended it. I share his outrage, and it’s good to know that at least one conservative blogger feels as angry as I do about illegal immigration.

Should George Bush Be Impeached?

by La Shawn on May 10, 2006

in Bush Bad, Illegal Aliens

Andrew Johnson Richard Nixon Bill Clinton George Bush

Monday, May 15: I’m still surprised by the popularity of this post, but I welcome new readers and civil commenters nonetheless. When you’re done reading the post, read this one about tonight’s speech.

Friday, May 12: This post is still generating interest (for some odd reason!), so I’ve re-opened it for commenting. Read the entire post, read parts of it, follow instructions or not, talk about the weather…whatever. Happy Friday! :D

Update II (5/11): I’m really quite disappointed with commenters on this post. It’s not about dissent; I allow non-ad homimen dissent at LBC. But I asked for two things on this post: other examples of abuse of power and other possible articles of impeachment. Exactly one commenter attempted to answer one of the questions. Many disagreed and didn’t address the questions. A few told me I was crazy (although most of those didn’t make it past the troll filter). Even commenters who agreed with the post didn’t answer the questions.

The hypothetical Article I drafted was deliberately vague. You’ll notice that I created a (1) but didn’t add (2). I wanted readers to come up with additional articles and examples. It was an exercise, an experiment to see what commenters would come up with.

But most didn’t bother. I could have added something like, “If you don’t think he should be impeached, don’t comment,” but people would have commented anyway. That’s the way we are. Whether people ask or not, we want to tell them what we think. I know my opinion about what should be done with Bush is controversial. Controversy sells. I can handle controversy. It’s the reason I’m a high ranking blogger. But this little impeachment hypothetical failed. Oh, well. On to the next post.

illegal aliensUpdate II: Tomorrow around 12:30 p.m. EDT, I’ll make a second appearance on Tammy Bruce’s radio show to talk about illegal immigration.

Here’s an op-ed written by a liberal who opposes illegal immigration. Good stuff. I said the same thing, more or less, in Greatness Falls.

Update: If I may be so dramatic, there’s a tug-of-war for America’s soul going on. The winner has yet to be determined.

Blogger and editorial writer (and fellow Reformed Christian) Mark Tapscott says, “Americans won’t be blackmailed.”

Leave it to The Onion to make us laugh in the midst of this cultural war. Humor is good for the soul.

Did you know the Minuteman Project had a blog? Me, either. They’re on the march to protect the borders. Black Americans are volunteering too, including “rasta Republican” Ted Hayes.

An “immigrant activist” said of Hayes: “He has a right to express his opinion, but I don’t agree with him. Many and most African American leaders think otherwise and we’re appreciative of their support.”

Thank you, Lord in heaven, for being all the leader I need!

Interesting, but not surprising, news: Hispanics Carry Lopsided Share Of DWI Arrests in Wake County, North Carolina. More interesting is how many drunk driving hispanic arrestees are illegal aliens. But local law enforcement officials aren’t allowed to ask. Hispanics probably make up a significant percentage of drunk drivers in the D.C. area, too, as well as uninsured drivers.

Bush wants to reward such people with amnesty instead of punishing them with deportation.

U.S. CapitolUpdate IV (4/21): Earlier I complained that Congressman Tom Tancredo was not on the list of speakers for FRC’s illegal immigration discussion. I just got word that he will participate. :)

Update III: Feds warn businesses against harboring and hiring illegal aliens? Confused…

Update II (4/20): I’ve blogged about the Minuteman Project many times on this blog. Examples:

Secure Our Borders Campaign
Minuteman Civil Defense Corps
Curious George and the Fox

They are a peaceful group of American volunteers (civilians) standing watch on our borders, and they have another message for George Bush.

Regarding the immigration raid I mentioned yesterday, Michelle Malkin and Dan Riehl are both cynical. I agree that the timing is suspicious, but I’m glad to read any news story with the words “illegal immigration” and “arrests” in it, whatever the motives behind the arrests.

Fellow blogger Mark Tapscott, formerly of the Heritage Foundation, is back in the newsroom at the Washington Examiner. Read his editorial about Reconquista. (Hat tip: MM)
————————————————————————————————————————–

Update: An immigration raid? Imagine that…

The Family Research Council will host a discussion forum on Christians, the rule of law, and illegal immigration on April 27. You must RSVP to attend. A live video feed will be available.

I read a story about one of the panelists, Rev. Samuel Rodriguez, Jr., of National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference, that fired me up (annoying but free reg. req.).

Added to my to-do list was “contact Rodriguez and ask him whether he’s discussed the illegality of illegal immigration with Christ-professing illegal aliens” — particularly in light of Chapter 13 of Paul’s letter to the Romans — but it got bumped down the list by more pressing matters. Looks like I’ll get the chance to ask him face to face.

Missing from the line up is Congressman Tom Tancredo, the toughtest border control advocate in Congress and a patriot not just in name only. And he’s no mere Republican; he’s a true conservative.

In other news, the “will of the people” still means something to local and state governments, thank goodness. Georgia’s governor is no mealy-mouth, ineffectual, open-borders, nation-destroying liberal, I’m glad to say. Perhaps putting citizens first will become a trend. Let’s hope so.

The key to stopping the scourge, however, is forcing illegal-alien-hiring businesses to face the consequences — by suing them under the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations statute. (For example, the Supreme Court may be hearing such a case very soon).

I know I’m hoping against hope that the court will do the right thing, but you never know…

Secure Our Borders Campaign

by La Shawn on February 21, 2006

in Book Reviews, Illegal Aliens

Whatever It TakesI reviewed a blood pressure-raising book for Townhall.com called Whatever It Takes: Illegal Immigration, Border Security, And the War on Terror.

Congressman J.D. Hayworth, a Republican from Arizona who once voted against immigration legislation, decided to write a book that exposes the dangers we face from lax immigration enforcement. Legal, law-abiding citizens are at risk, and the government turns a blind eye. Read the review.

Speaking of blind government, American patriots are doing what our federal government refuses to do: deter border jumping. Beginning in April, 6,500 volunteers will guard and patrol the Mexican and Canadian borders. These are volunteers of the Minuteman Project, a subject I’ve written about a lot. I was so glad to learn that some people are doing instead of just talking. (I forgot to mention that I met Jim Gilchrist, co-founder of the Minuteman Project, at CPAC.)

Contrary to popular opinion, the Minuteman volunteers are not “rednecks” or “white supremacists” threatening Mexicans trying to cross the border. They peacefully stand watch at the border, breaking no laws. Just the sight of them seems to deter would-be illegal aliens. In fact, it’s so simple, even a government can do it. :?

…according to intelligence obtained by the Department of Homeland Security. (Source)

Every time I think about scum like the Mexican El Salvadorian murderous thug gang MS-13 living outside the law in my country, I get angry. I don’t put much faith in DHS’s cross-border crime task force, but time will tell if it works. Let’s hope corpses of dead Americans don’t pile up while we wait.

As one border agent said about illegal aliens, “It’s not just people coming over here to pick lettuce. These gang members, criminals, are endangering American lives.”

Thank God for the Second Amendment.

By the way, remember my rants about Arabs sneaking across the porous southern border with Mexicans? I’m reviewing a book written by someone who claims that it ain’t so. Is he correct? Stay tuned. The review will be posted on Townhall.com either tomorrow or early next week.

Illegal Immigration Has Increased

by La Shawn on September 27, 2005

in Illegal Aliens

trashThis isn’t news, of course, but be warned that with wide open borders, infiltration by Islamofascists is also increasing. As I said immediately after Hurricane Katrina, your government cannot and will not protect you and your family.

If Islamofascists want to kill us all with nuclear weapons, stockpiled guns and food won’t help you. But if there’s a domestic terrorist attack on a grander scale than September 11 (with blackouts and breakdown of communication systems), those weapons will definitely come in handy.

The feds won’t enforce immigration law, businesses that hire illegal aliens have no fear of enforcement, and it’s gotten to the point where illegal aliens themselves don’t fear enforcement, either. They’re gaining more rights than Americans. They can sue us and take our property, file discrimination lawsuits against us and win. The rules of the game have changed.

Minuteman Civil Defense Corps

by La Shawn on June 28, 2005

in Illegal Aliens

walkOverall, the Minuteman Project was a success. The goal was to raise awareness about America’s serious southern border problem, and they accomplished the goal.

They also embarrassed the Bush administration, an unintended consequence of their efforts. In what was largely a symbolic gesture, Bush commissioned more border patrol agents shortly before the Minuteman volunteers began a month-long vigil on the Arizona-Mexico border. But we know he’s not really interested in stopping the scourge.

The Minuteman Civil Defense Corps was formed to keep the immigration debate front and center, and I’m glad. The organization is rounding up volunteers for a patrol in New Mexico and Texas. From the El Paso Times:

The group wants to enlist 1,000 civilian volunteers to look for undocumented immigrants [euphemism for illegal aliens] along the border and call the Border Patrol on cell phones if they spot anyone. They will patrol Sunland Park but not El Paso, group officials said.

“The goal is not for the Minuteman (group) to control the border, but to put enough pressure on the government to secure the border properly,” said Bob Wright, a Eunice, N.M., natural gas operator and one of the project’s organizers. (Emphasis added)

Thank goodness for real Americans. They understand there’s much more at stake than stopping Mexicans from jumping the border; we need to stop Arab terrorists from jumping the border.

No thanks to gullible American leftists bound and determined to instigate anti-American sentiment around the world, Muslims think we’re suckers. Al-Jazeera, also known as the Al Qaeda News Network, wants to interview Minuteman Civil Defense Corps president Chris Simcox. And film the volunteers on patrol.

Then again, some of us are suckers.
